I'll never understand why this is so many peoples go to solution. Nothing is stopping people from trading up to get the perfect sets they want, the problem is, they just don't play those sets because they'd rather pk in crap, and use eq as currency. How would wiping everything magically fix the market and level the playing field?
Which leads into my next point. Reyne says "I feel like you should be able to show up in ~okay~ gear and still be able to contribute to a fight *without* being some super experienced PvPer with a decade under their belt"
Showing up in leather and ice spiking a few times is a contribution. Showing up in maze eq and a club from the rack, being able to bash and block is a contribution. How can wiping gear level the playing field? Eventually the "experienced PvPer with a decade under their belt" will funnel that gear up again.
We could teach another pk class, but ill make it short, you wont get better at pk without being hungry. Everyone worth their salt in pk went through the fire to get where they are. They died over and over, and persevered until they learned enough to start being competitive if they wanted it bad enough. What we have today are a lot of players who would choose to avoid pk, because of the inconvenience of potentially losing their set, which would cost them the time they spent acquiring the set by whatever means that was. At the end of the day, its a pvp mud and dying is the cost of playing and everyone knows it.
