To be honest having a server wide eq cleanse probably wouldn't be a bad thing
I'll never understand why this is so many peoples go to solution. Nothing is stopping people from trading up to get the perfect sets they want, the problem is, they just don't play those sets because they'd rather pk in crap, and use eq as currency. How would wiping everything magically fix the market and level the playing field?

Which leads into my next point. Reyne says "I feel like you should be able to show up in ~okay~ gear and still be able to contribute to a fight *without* being some super experienced PvPer with a decade under their belt"

Showing up in leather and ice spiking a few times is a contribution. Showing up in maze eq and a club from the rack, being able to bash and block is a contribution. How can wiping gear level the playing field? Eventually the "experienced PvPer with a decade under their belt" will funnel that gear up again.

We could teach another pk class, but ill make it short, you wont get better at pk without being hungry. Everyone worth their salt in pk went through the fire to get where they are. They died over and over, and persevered until they learned enough to start being competitive if they wanted it bad enough. What we have today are a lot of players who would choose to avoid pk, because of the inconvenience of potentially losing their set, which would cost them the time they spent acquiring the set by whatever means that was. At the end of the day, its a pvp mud and dying is the cost of playing and everyone knows it.

Why is it that imms have such ants in their pants regarding uniques? If it is such a big deal just purge them and reload them ever 6 months or whatever. Reloading a bunch of rares would make Beltane great again!

eh for me, its more just that immortals seem to be trying to do stuff to make things rarer, not loading rare weapons because theres so many in game etc. full sets being thrown on the ground, nothing being traded other than rare gear. Could just be nostalgia, but I liked when I started that there was a market for a full abs set with an eaxe etc. I guess making eq rarer again would make it feel less like a DM mud - but I guess the average skill level of the remaining players is a fair bit higher than what it used to, so it could just lead to more people not taking risks and such in PK, which probably wouldn't be a good thing. Aye I have no doubt that whatever gear would be funneled up to the same conservative players or stored in rents, but eh it would be something to spice things up again, more people would go smobbing leading to more pk around smobs. Who knows, I imagine an eq wipe is on the NWIH list anyway.

Such a great post and the reason why PK is so shitty so often.

I'm going to try to explain in supercrazy hyperbole since that seems to be the language of choice for those voicing issues with this still, and then I'm locking this in part so it doesn't continue on, and in part because Zangief's post excellently highlights a primary reason behind it all.

No one wants to fight the bonused character using 9 uniques. The person with 9 uniques could keep pvp going for hours if people would fight them. Instead, that person complains about people doing things they used to take as a sign of respect. They chase people away from pvping at all when they're around. That person isn't good because of their uniques, they have uniques because they're good. It gives them an edge that no one else can compete with and that isn't conducive for players of equal caliber competing against them, or new players trying to learn to pvp who show up and die so fast that the only lesson they can learn is don't fight that person. I do find it tiring to hear the best players complain about never getting a fight or having to use normal characters to get a fight. They start saying that stuff as underhanded braggadocio but then they start drinking their own kool-aid and their mood starts degrading quickly and they morph into something that is toxic, that detracts from the whole pvp ecosystem.

I could care less about the tracking, I don't do that. Elysia does, and she wanted to make an effort to keep doing so, while I wanted them gone. I was happy to keep letting her make the effort as long as she was willing, but she no longer is.
