Go deep into the Blight alone and return alive

I'm a bit newbie (easy kill, yeah - but struggling to catch up!), so some things that I find interesting might look commonplace to you guys.
But still.

This is a quite typical way to start pk lately: go alone to enemy's gate and see if they can kill you.

so its x2, we plan go xping, my partner Epic a bit AFK, and here it comes:

At this point a huge suspension bridge stretches across the vastness of the
ravine. The bridge has become rotten with age but still seems useable. The
sound of a raging river can be heard from the depths of the canyon below.
To the north a monstrous waterfall can be seen plummeting to the depths of
the canyon. The waterfall has formed a stair-like ridge where the water has
eroded the rock face of one of the cliffs. The bridge continues towards a
castle to the east and through the mountains to the west.

If every time LS sniped/bashed/killed my horse from underneath me, I DTd.. I would be a very sad panda

Some quick tips:

1. Blocking. At the very start you move 1w stonegate to block Matheus. It's a great instinct to block if you know someone will flee. The main problem in this situation is that Matheus is probably going to be double-lining W when he flees, in order to not accidentally end up in rk. This means that if he does get the west flee, he'll be out of your room before you can engage. The classic blocking point in that zone (for DS) is at rotten, 2 more rooms west of there. If he does end up in your room and engaged upon, he has easy flees from there, since entering north after his flee will put him safely in an open zone. That said, every block is bad in that zone unless you have some really solid chasers or unless the enemy is low and panicking, so it might be worthwhile to stay in the room and roll bashes since Epic is shortblades and will ideally be spamming and calling the gate.

2. Targetting. The earlier you can get yourself in the habit of targetting by name (vs horse or human) the better. I use 'j' as my targetting alias and constantly switch it up during PK depending on who I want to be spamming for. Horse is only reliable as long as they stay mounted, and there aren't many situations in which killing someone's horse makes it easier to kill them--this is especially the case at Orch Ragan. The easiest way to kill humans there is to catch them 1e, where they're likely to fail flees. The second easiest is if they flee south, since there are more dism rooms at templedoor that can mess with mounted flees.

Not sure if engaging the horse even when it was bashed would have put you engaged to the horse. If you really want to engage the horse the way to do it is 'kick horse' and that goes past rescuing, but gives you a round lag from kick...

that said, most people are going to come pretty prepared to keep and not just run themselves hagg to yell something incoherent keep zone for chance at pk, then bumble south after it turns out 4 or 5 trollocs are home, trying to stay alive long enough to jump off a cliff to save experience. I *may* do that occasionally but would hope you don't build a horse targeting strategy around it ;)

2Raal, I'm just trying to make sense of all of this so my "strategies" are probably quite stupid anyways, especially as ecthus pointed out :) I don't think anyone from ds will use them except myself :)

2Echtus wow great tips thanks! For one didn't know dl gets through the spam. Btw, in this case, shouldn't it be then a sure (or rather, surer) way to get through any block? jus go near block and flee+dl from there rather than flee from the block itself (this way you don't get hit).
Also I didn't consider dism rooms, being a trolloc!

Exactly. The ideal way to get through a block is to dline past it since your dline command goes through before the commands of anyone that's spamming. The key thing to know is dlining only works if you're engaged when you flee. So sitting one room and fleeing without being engaged will only add to your fleelag.

Putting keeping your room exits on the line is really helpful, I might start doing that too. Once you learn to not Doubleline back into the group you are fighting I think death goes down considerably...and then zone knowledge really helps a lot too.

take for instance fighting as a trolloc 2n FD and you have to flee, there are no good doublelines because 50% of the time you end up back in the same room. My strategy on DS is to flee and wait for the group to hit me again and then I usually DL S;E;E. So if I fled the first time w I end up either 2n 2w s or 1n of FD and if I fled e I end up either 1n fd or 2n 4e. Another strategy I've seen people do is code to look at room descriptions to see which way they fled.

I'd love to get some other peoples strategies in these areas especially around Kajin and Ragan load gap which I've been flee trapped quite badly.

having aliases for 'scan east' or 'scan west' is useful too for determining which room you are in. Also good e.g. when you're fighting in fd and fled from malk.

Or as a trolloc at night use exit and the lit room is where the group is (in alot of situations)

You can't tell which exit is lit and which is not as a trolloc when you use exit. They all just show up as their normal room names.
