IDEA: Checking for uniques
Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
Oh I realize that, Daal. But I imagine the reason why uniques being inactive is an issue, is that they aren't in circulation. I mean a unique that is only getting used to smob with for real life years, might as well be out of the game. I forget which Aes Sedai(elyse?) chanced upon Katars and had them for 2? years time. Could be that I am completely in the wrong here, but to me it doesn't seem to make much difference if you are smobbing with a PoD or Katars, a heron or lamans, a paramerion or heron foil, yew staff or Laman's Folly, if you get what I'm trying to say. Granted maybe people feel some sort of accomplishment just having the unique. This just seemed like the easiest way to make sure that the different weapons stay in circulation.
Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
I hate how all you people are derailing my beer thread here..
Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
If circulation is the goal then make em no-rent again. Statting with justice was cool.
Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
My other idea is to make it obligatory for anyone with a unique to register. make it a rule. this maintains visibility of who has what uniques and should be visible for all to see. The excel sheet may be a good starting point. If coding is not in the way, could we have a tracker mob which you can go to register at?Elysia wrote:If people could please get back on track on how we can maintain uniques in a less time consuming way, that'd be great.
I agree, rather I think all imms agree, that uniques having a timer is ideal. What's worse is there is a timer slot on weapons, but no imm can change or toggle it. So tantalizingly close. IF it even does what we hope it does heh. For all we know it plays into bash or stab timers.![]()
E.g. the boring plain old rapier:
Weight: 3.5, Cost: 80, Rent/day: 3, Timer: 0
They're all MC hammers, I guess, because I can't touch this.
To make it easier to monitor, Elysia’s work can be delegated to make it more player-enforced. There can be several ideas for this.
One is Fermin’s idea of having the ability to put in money to get an IMM check for active play.
Another may be to designate the responsibility of tracking uniques to players. Maybe to the Kandori Merchant Clan (since uniques are considered to be famed equipment) such that you award them for giving imms reports of unique activities / intelligence? (Btw I thought they are doing a great job with the updated lists of lugard broker at Bazaar forums!)
That said, yes we will still need a workable definition of “active play”. actually the lowest hanging fruit of non active play is not logging into the game at all (say for 2 weeks irl)? those uniques should be transferred out of the hands of that person. In relation to pk, the status quo definition of active play does not seem to require you to get pk kills or even to pk, although getting pk skill is definitely a sign of active play. I would personally like to see uniques in pk because that helps to promote circulation (rather than hoarding) of uniques.
Circulation of uniques is therefore a reason why I suggested allowing uniques to be tradeable to allow the pker to have the unique and the smobber to have the top tier rare without having to be concerned about going into unique jail.
Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
The gold crowns would enable players to not really check on rares that are active / people don't care about.
Who is going to spend 3k gold to find out where lamen's folly is?! Bloodstone medallion, etc
Eventually people will be like - haven't seen xxx in three months lets check it out, then tell others what they find out... The idea that people would check weekly seems pretty out there to me.
Opening trading on them would be good too.
If you just want them out of the game, think you should just post that you want people to turn them in, doubt anyone really cares. However, uniques are a really fun part of the game as long as they circulate a bit.
Second idea, if you want the uniques out of the game then who cares if they are active or not. Just stop checking and then if you want to load a unique or something you can check who has a unique weapon and take it.

Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
This isn’t that hard. Put a mob in that will in turn give you a rare weapon back for turning the unique in. There needs to be incentive to doing so. All that currently happens is the player gets deflated from losing or having the item run down into trash. If you reward the person who turns it in with something of actual value and not a stupid obsidian pendant, you will see players more inclined to use mechanics like this. The one constant is that we put too much faith in players to expect nothing for doing something good or turning something good in. Heck, I turned in a heron and shocker for 5 alt qps on my dark friend. It was the biggest kick in the nuts and the true eye opener of how misguided people of power are when it comes to value in a text based game.
Turn in good condition ksword and get a heron back in return.
Turn in lamans folly and get a shocker in return.
Turn in katars and get dirks or a stiletto in return.
Turn in bloodstone medallion and get a silver medallion in return.
Turn in malf and get a wicked axe in return.
I mean I could come up with this in 5 minutes and I bet I would have more people turning in uniques than this other system and tp crapola. We play this game to have a sense of accomplishment, reward, and enjoyment. Not to feel like we get beaten up and slapped around by school teachers finding new ways to punish us until we don’t register for this class anymore.

I can agree with this. So either you play the unique or your turn it into a rare which you can trade for or keep. works for me!Jaster wrote:This isn’t that hard. +1
Also not like you can farm herons from it because there aren't any infinite kswords.
I'd do this with the uniques with the majority of them and leave like 5 of them out. I.e. lamans/hatchet/malf/justice/silver sai

Re: IDEA: Checking for uniques
I feel like we are talking about so many different topics on this thread.
1.) Turning in uniques because you don't want to use them or you have to go on vacation is a no go in my opinion because then you're flooded with rares (potentially) or you have to put a time limit on uniques being re-introduced. i.e. I could turn in lamans for a heron long then quest for it the next week or smob load or whatever. The solution to this is not to be an asshole and just give it away, I can't count the amount of uniques I have given away even if I'm leaving for 3-4 days.
2.) Turning in uniques because they are decayed - this is very annoying. All uniques should be permanently pristine. Alternatively, and I have asked multiple immortals and I think have had limited success but traded in 9 jcuffs or so to get a heron mended. Maybe make something similar for uniques. Otherwise in this cirucumstance I believe it is ok to turn in the unique for a rare.
3.) Tracking uniques: apparently when master retool first came out, Turg? got de-mastered for retooling his axe a massive penis or something. Are retools trackable by immortals? Maybe have some mob like this act as a register. When you acquire a unique, you go retool it as 'retool lamans Davor now wields lamans' Then you rent and it resets the name and the immortals have a log. Must be done within 72 hours of obtaining a unique and will probbaly be done as soon as a unique is rolled for anyways, could put the mob in all dice rooms.
4.) Rig and Jaster being douchebags. I like PKing versus them. I don't like the killing AFK/LD/Hellmud thing which I believe was just a stupid phase that made no sense. Just ruins the atmosphere. No real excuse for experienced and relatively good, albeit pansy PKers to be doing this!
5.) Cheating. There is no real reason to cheat anymore. You can track anyone. I often am on LS, see someone log on I want to kill then will alt to DS and vice versa. Wait times are only 15 minutes.
