Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
You say 'Okay, to begin, how much experience do you each have in fighting against other channelers?'
Sorsha says 'zero'
You say 'Fyra?'
Fyra says 'I've sparred a few times, and lost to Jestin many'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'How about general battle prowess, outside of channeler opponents?'
Sorsha says 'strong'
Fyra says 'In groups, I've fought. Not really solo much'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'And are you both familiar with the fundamental battle weaves?'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Sorsha nods in agreement.
You say 'As a general review then, essentially the main battle weaves are ice spikes, fireball, and flame strike.'
Fyra says 'I have only ice spikes, and Hammer of Air'
You say 'I would highly recommend that if you find yourself in many of these battles, you maximize your practice in these weaves.'
You say 'Hammer of Air is as quick as Flame Strike, however it does much less damage'
You say 'On the flip side, it has a low chance to bash your opponent'
You say 'I generally find that in most cases, Flame Strike is preferable to Hammer of Air because it does more damage in the same amount of time.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Hammer of Air is generally only preferable if you happen to have a large group with you.'
You say 'And only in the case that you are gambling on a bash landing at a critical time.'
Fyra says 'In support role I usually take, that normally the case for me.'
You say 'Which is quite rare, though it can be devastating when it happens.'
You nod in agreement.
Sorsha says 'understood'
You say 'But even in that group setting, Flame Striek does more damage.'
Sorsha says 'didnt realize it was a low chance'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'I believe it's around 10% or lower.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Sorsha whistles appreciatively.
You say 'And again it barely does any damage.'
You say 'So I personally highly prefer Flame Strike for guaranteed damage.'
Fyra says 'I should consider repracticing'
Sorsha nods at Fyra.
Fyra says 'Does Flane strike interrupt weaves>'
You say 'One important thing to keep in mind especially in channeler on channeler fights is to know how much damage these weaves do.'
You say 'All damage weaves interrupt other weaves.'
You say 'Unless they occur simultaneously, in which case both weaves go off.'
You say 'Do you have any ideas of what range of damage Flame strike can do?'
Sorsha shakes her head.
You say 'From my experience, usually about 20-40 hit points.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'With 30 being a good estimate usually.'
You say 'More than 30 will only occur with master channelers and quite rarely.'
You say 'So if you're fighting a close fight versus a channeler, you usually don't want to be fighting with less than 30-35 hit ponits.'
You say 'Because it's quite easy to fail a flee and then you could die to a flame strike.'
Sorsha nods in agreement.
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Flame strike is also the fastest weave that does significant damage.'
You say 'Depending on the willpower of your oppoentn, usually after fleeing 3-5 times in a short period of time (a tic) you should be able to land a flame striek on your opponent.'
You say 'Now for firebal and ice spikes, it's important to observe the weather very closely'
You say 'Typically if the weather is less 45 degrees'
You say '45 degrees or less'
You say 'You want to use ice spikes.'
You say '50 degrees or more you want ot use fireball.'
You say 'Also with fireball, if it is raining or there is lightning, it will do less damage.'
You say 'So it's important to also have Change Weather'
You say 'So you can make the weather better if its raining or if there is lightning'
You say 'Assuming you don't have call lightning which we won't cover right now in the interests of time.'
You say 'The range of damage for fireball/ice spikes in the riht weather conditions is roughly 80-120.'
You say 'Some tricky channelers might go for a spike or fireball when you're low to try to kill you.'
Fyra says 'Two of them from Jestin gets me healthy to crit'
You say 'Most will go for flame strike but to surprise you some might try to spike or fireball you to get the insta kill.'
You say 'So be careful of that.'
You say 'It's important to also have your methods nailed down (your
aliases/weave targetting).'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Fyra says 'I have those'
You say 'I would highly recommend practicing these methods thoroughly (use some sort of weave targetting script)'
Sorsha says 'will work on it'
You say 'What I prefer is a unified process (e.g., typing a short letter then [target]'
You say 'For example, right now I have two main alias systems.'
You say 'I can type sp fyra'
You say 'that will automatically set aliases for chann 'ice spikes' fyra'
You say 'chann 'flame strike' fyra'
You say 'any status weaves i want'
You say 'e.g., chann 'chill' fyra'
You say 'it also sets an alias for kill fyra'
You say 'all at once'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'I would also suggest you do this in your client not in the game.'
Fyra says 'I have that as well. Mine is tgt taleena'
You say 'So it doesn't take time in the fight.'
You say 'But then I have a different one for fireball'
You say 'so I can also type fb fyra'
You say 'and that sets the same alias I would use for ice spikes to chann 'fireball' fyra'
You say 'that way it's easy to switch back between different zones with different weather'
You say 'Sometimes, for example near the Blight literally two different rooms can have 30 degrees and 90 degrees that are right next to each other.'
You say 'So I personally like to keep the same alias for fball and spike'
You say 'and a different alias for flame strike'
You say 'and just use the weave targetting to decide which one i want to use'
Sorsha says 'that's awesome'
You say 'so by choosing between sp fyra and fb fyra'
You say 'it sets the three alises'
You say 'and i don't have to worry in the future about using the wrong long weave timer'
You say 'That makes sense?'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Sorsha nods in agreement.
Fyra says 'Indeed'
Sorsha says 'would love to see the script'
Fyra looks at you.
You say 'I then also have two other aliases that never change.'
You say 'correction actually one doesn't change.'
You say 'One is chann 'flame strike' h.dark'
You say 'that one never changes'
You say 'the other one is chann 'ice spike' h.dark'
You say 'but it changes to chann 'fireball' h.dark'
You say 'if i had typed fb fyra'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'so in summary, e.g., these are my aliases'
You say 'z - chann 'flame strike' h.dark'
You say 'x - chann 'ice spike' h.dark or chann 'fireball' h.dark'
You say 'depending on if i typed fb fyra or sp fyra latest'
You say 'v - chann 'ice spike' fyra or chann 'fireball' fyra'
You say 'b - chann 'flame strike' fyra'
You say 'and finally m - kill fyra'
Sorsha says 'targetting h.fyra cost mvs?'
You say 'those all get set appropriately by typing fb fyra or sp fyra'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'only in the kill command'
You say 'the weave command it doesn't'
Sorsha nods in agreement.
You say 'Any ohter questions so far?'
Sorsha shakes her head.
Fyra says 'Then why not have alias automatically set to h. on all weaves?'
You say 'It makes sense to do that'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Fyra says 'OK'
You say 'Don't have to do it for kill though because it takes moves.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Unless you want to'
You say 'Okay, now when fighting another channeler that hasn't slipped through the system'
You say 'Okay for the rest of this we'll focus on channeler vs. channeler fights'
You say 'Channelers will typically die from an ice spike or fireball at Critical'
You say 'Almost always'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Unless of course they are warded vs damage'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'From high beat, most channelers can survive a spike or fball'
You say 'Mid-low beat most channelers will die also from a spiek or fball'
You say 'Most channelers will not die from beat with a flame strike.'
You say 'For that reason I often prefer the longer weaves when opponents are low.'
You say 'Though it kind of counter intuitive'
You say 'Because usually in low fights people are running'
You say 'And you want ot use fast weaves'
Fyra says 'I have a hard time having them not get interrupted'
You say 'But most oppoenents that are savvy will know they can die from the fast weaves.'
You say 'Some might stick around at beaten thinking they are safe from flame strike.'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'This is more for an opponent that is trying to get away from you and isn't weaving back at you'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'I also like long weaves at the beginning of a fight.'
You say 'When you're catching them by surprise.'
You say 'Can give you a nice head start.'
Sorsha says 'sneak weave'
You say 'Because often opponents aren't prepared at the beginning of a fight.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Fyra says 'So you beat them to the weave'
You say 'So you can sneak in a long weave while they are still disoriented'
You say 'Yeah, and if you land a long weave you're already ahead'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'They have to do 2-3 short weaves to catch up.'
You say 'The other thing to practice is the timing of repeat weaves.'
You say 'I actually like to count pulses in my head.'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'and depending on the speed of your connection, pick a pulse when you will input the next weave'
Fyra says 'If i count too fast, it sometimes cancels my weave'
You say 'the goal is to almost double-line the end of a previous weave and the start of a next one'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'That just takes a lot of practice'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'And no-one is ever perfect'
Fyra says 'I've been practicing on rogues'
You say 'The other thing to consider is the rooms that you fight in.'
You say 'I like to try to get my opponent in rooms with less exits'
You say 'Towards the end of a fight'
You say 'Because for most opponents them failing flees is how you get kills.'
Fyra says 'Is it harder to flee from room with less exits?'
You say 'So if you can get them in one exit or two exit rooms that's the best.'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'One or two exit rooms have the highest flee failure rate.'
Fyra says 'Interesting. I was not aware.'
You say 'Two exit rooms with a ride room are great too'
You say 'A room requiring you to dismount I mean.'
You say 'You want your opponent to fail flees and build up flee lag'
You say 'Thats what the fight is all about'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Once they have enough flee lag, you should be able to weave on them even when they run away from you'
You say 'Conversely you yourself want to try not to flee too much'
You say 'Channeler fights are a battle of who can have the least amount of flee lag'
You say 'In addition to the most amount of hit points of course'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'It's also very important to keep in mind what mode your opponent is in.'
You say 'Usually opponents are either trying to kill you or running.'
You say 'If they're trying to kill you, you can not engage first to get a advantage on the timer.'
You say 'If they're trying to run from you, you want to engage them'
You say 'So that you keep them in the room'
Fyra says 'does one entering room always get first engage on weave?'
You say 'And also to build up their flee lag'
You say 'That really depends'
You say 'If the person in the room gets lucky you might be able to "double-line" a start'
You say 'nothing ever beats that'
You say 'You guys know what I mean by double-lining?'
Sorsha nods in agreement.
Fyra says 'like entering north, channel in one line?'
You say 'In this case I don't mean it like a double-line on a non-channeler'
You say 'Yeah'
You say 'Like Taleena arrives from the north.'
You say 'then immediately after that with no spaces'
You say 'You start your weave..'
You say 'Nothing ever beats that'
Sorsha says 'fleeing off something and instantly weaving upon flee'
You say 'Taht's one way'
You say 'But that's not exactly what I mean'
You say 'And it goes against the philosophy of keeping your flee lag down.'
Sorsha nods in agreement.
You say 'I just mean if you're lucky and you're putting in your alias for weave opponent'
You say 'sometimes it will be a double-line with them entering your room'
You say 'if this happens you will always finish your weave first'
Sorsha says 'ahh'
You say 'they might get lucky and simultaneously finish theirs'
Fyra says 'Its hard though cause i cant spam the weave command for when they enter cause itll canel weave once when they come in'
You say 'but you will always get yours off'
You say 'yeah so you don't spam it'
Fyra says 'just guess?'
You say 'you enter it, see that it hasn't gone off'
You say 'then enter it again'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'its not exactly spamming'
You say 'kind of like a slow spamming'
Fyra says 'I think I know what you mean. Takes some luck then'
You say 'that doesn't always work'
You say 'the double-line thing'
You say 'but if you see it happen'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'then you're golden'
Fyra smiles happily.
You say 'if you don't see it happen you're likely behind'
Fyra says 'I hit Jestin with it once at couling'
Fyra says 'coulin'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'its the best way to guarantee that you will hit first'
You say 'but its hard to do because as you said you can't spam it'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'the 2nd best thing is to enter a room and immediately start on your opponent'
You say 'because in that case you will land first as long as they didn't get adouble-line weave'
You say 'if both fighters are good and lucky then you'll get simultaneous weaves off'
Fyra says 'So when fighting other channellers, generally weave first, instead of engage first?'
You say 'unfrotunately there's no way to avoid this, you could have been first but their weaves will still hit you'
You say 'generally yes'
Fyra nods in agreement.
Sorsha says 'wondered how that happened'
You say 'because that first engage command puts you behind the race'
Fyra says 'I always engaged Jestin first, and then ate ice spike'
You say 'the exception is of course if they're running from you'
Fyra frowns.
Fyra says 'This is helpful.'
You say 'if they're running from you you want to engage each time'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'because otherwise they won't stay in room'
You say 'and otherwise they won't build up flee lag'
Fyra says 'Makes sense'
Sorsha says 'assuming it's 1v1'
You say 'if it's a good opponent sometimes i won't even weave the first few flees'
You say 'because i know that my weave won't go off in flee lag'
You say 'so i just hit and spam'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'especially in a room with 3 or 4 extis'
You say 'in a room with 1 or 2 exits always weave because they might fail a flee'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'in summary, flee lag is your enemy and always know if your opponent is running from you or trying to fight you'
Fyra nods at you.
Sorsha nods in agreement.
You say 'its really important to know if you're on the defensive or offensive'
You say 'taking that one step further if your oppoent is on the offensive you can use that to your advantage'
You say 'because if they are on the offensive'
You say 'they probably will try to hit you first'
You say 'giving you the advantage in landing your weave first'
Fyra says 'Which means I can weave first'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'I use this a lot when I'm outnumbered'
Fyra says 'Short weave if low?'
You say 'becomes a lot easier to out weave people if they're chasing you and they have to weave you'
You say 'Yeah I would generally suggest short weaves if you're low'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'as you get more comfortable somtimes you can roll the dice and use long weaves when both are low to try to get the kill'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'another nice trick when you are on the defensive'
You say 'is to start with short weaves'
You say 'then switch to long weaves when you enter first'
You say 'and count on them walking out to chase you'
You say 'many will then come back into the room to hit you again'
You say 'and eat a long weave'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'whereas a short weave might finish when they're still out of room'
You say 'but obviously this only works when you're on the defensive'
You say 'because you're counting on them chasing you'
Fyra says 'Can I ask you a question on weaving stabbers?'
You say 'sure'
Fyra says 'When I enter room, I engage, and then start long weave. A lot of times they flee and re enter to try stab. Will a long weave hit first before the stab timer if they renter?'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'It will'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'However that can be risky'
You say 'Because if you fail the weave you could be at risk'
Fyra says 'If it misses, Im stabbed dead'
You say 'Also make sure you're weaving h.target in that case'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'Depending on your link though you really shoudl be able to engage'
You say 'So as you get better you can let the weave run'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'with a kill h.dark right after that'
You say 'just in case it fails'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'any other questions?'
Fyra shakes her head.
Sorsha shakes her head.
You say 'When you're on the offensive, it's all about building up their flee lag'
You say 'and getting them to fail flees'
Fyra says 'And trying to figure out which way they are fleeing to'
You say 'You want to hit them as many times as possible in a short time frame'
Fyra says 'I'm not great at chasing'
You say '(within a tic)'
You say 'and get them to build up that flee lag'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'once you see them flee 3-5 times you can safely get a flame strike off before they can flee'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'at that point you can switch to flame striking them, then stacking a few kill targets'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'so that you can spam for them in case they flee and come back into your room'
You say 'its important to hit the right balance of weaving and kill target when you're on the offensive'
You say 'many people will panic and flee and come back into your room'
You say 'you want to engage them again if they come back in'
You say 'remember, flee lag is your objective'
You say 'every time they're in your room and not engaged its another opportunity to increase their flee lag'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'when chasing, you want to know the right choke points'
You say 'and know which way they are likely running to'
You say 'you always have an advantage while chasing'
You say 'you don't have the disorientation of guessing which room you fled into'
You say 'so while they're running you want to choose between hitting kill target a few times'
You say 'in case they come back into your room'
You say 'chasing them into the room they fled into'
You say 'or going into a future room they will be in soon'
You say 'to cut them off'
You say 'which of those three choices you choose is very situational'
You say 'and is probably best learned through a lot of practice'
Sorsha nods in agreement.
You say 'in general though if you're on the defensive you want to be fighting in 3 or 4 exit rooms'
You say 'if you're on the offensive you want to be fighting in a lot of 1 or 2 exit rooms'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'more failed flees, less guesswork of where they will be fleeing to, etc'
Fyra says 'I always fled to 1 exit rooms thinking it would be better to know which way I was fleeing'
You say '1 exit rooms are great'
You say 'If you're on the offensive'
You grin evilly.
Fyra snickers softly.
Fyra says 'No wonder I die a lot'
Fyra chuckles politely.
You say 'In any given weave scenario always try to guess if you're ahead or behind'
You say 'if there's a good chance you're behind you probably should flee'
You say 'and always try to remember where you are in the "flee lag battle"'
Sorsha says 'now I understand why channelers get stabbed so much when fighting dreadlords'
You say 'just like your opponent, after 3-5 flees you now have enough flee lag'
Sorsha snickers softly.
You say 'to get weaved on'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'that's exactly why'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'so be mindful of your own flee lag'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'after your flee lag builds up too much it might be a good idea to take a cool off and let a tic pass'
You say 'to let it come down a bit'
You say 'because again the battle is not just of hps it's of flee lag'
Fyra nods in agreement.
You say 'okay if there's no other questions let's take a break then we can spar a bit'
Sorsha says 'zero'
You say 'Fyra?'
Fyra says 'I've sparred a few times, and lost to Jestin many'
You nod in agreement.
You say 'How about general battle prowess, outside of channeler opponents?'

Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
Excellent read thank you!
When you say to practice ice spikes, flame strike and fireball thoroughly ... do you mean getting them all to 99?

Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
Good stuff!
I got the best feel for short weave timing by practicing on tree sets, over and over and over. Counting the pulses, figuring out my link.
Long weave timing I got nailed down smobbing, if you're there with another channeler, challenge yourself to outweave them every time.

Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
With what Ciara said, I find myself mentally keeping track of when weaves are going off smobbing all the time. I find that more fun when challenging myself on my channelers.
Also, was a little disappointed there were no sparring logs!

I too was disappointed there were no deaths.
Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
I found the weave switching scripting most helpful. Thank you.
Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
A working example of the above:-
tar sets target1 - for me in ds pk typically just dark
tar2 sets target2 - priority targets (beaten opponents for a long weave, or stays as dreadlord in that sorta pk)
qq sets your long weave to either fireball, or ice spikes.
status xxx sets your status weave to xxx

Code: Select all
#CLASS {FCTargetting}
#ALIAS 2 {kill @target}

Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
I don’t switch my ice and fire buttons but I do swap my bash/charge/stab buttons to be weaves instead when I alt characters. So whether I am on basher or Channeler I still use the same buttons for combat abilities.
Example : A is bash or fireball. C is charge or flame strike. R is stab or ice spikes

Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
Great log. My only comment is that weaving h.xxx doesn't take moves.
Re: Beginner's Guide to Channeler vs. Channeler PK
I do something similar, playerfile with associated macros for weaving. Find it really helpful as my hands are always in the same places regardless of which alt im using.Monsoon wrote:I don’t switch my ice and fire buttons but I do swap my bash/charge/stab buttons to be weaves instead when I alt characters.
