Chats vs Narrates

Post by ervik » Thu Aug 23, 2018 6:08 pm

Can someone give me a better understanding of chats vs narrates. I have conflicting information regarding this.

It is my understanding that everything under narrates is 100% game related. It's chats where things get confusing. I have been told by some that chats is 100% OOC and not game / character linked and then there are others who say that chats are 100% game related. It seems to change based on what some people what to do / say to you.

So, what is it?

CHAT

Syntax: chat <message>

Chat is a global communications channel used for out-of-character discussions.

When you "chat", everyone on your side (human/trolloc) will see the message
you type. In-character discussions have a separate channel, called Narrate.
Abuse of Chat, such as spamming messages, will result in a character being
"No-shouted", which removes the ability to use the global channels.

Also note that things you say on the "chat" channel can be taken by players
as in-character remarks. Non-game related discussion belongs on the "chat"
channel so that players can choose not to listen, but don't be surprised if
you start chatting about a clan and then suffer role playing consequences
for your remarks.

Seems like it's open for interruption then and can be used to someone's advantage either way.

Chats are where anything non-game related should go, as well as generally anything Smob/exp/trading related, etc.

Narrates are generally reserved for PK or In-character discussion.

But yes, both chats and narrates can be taken in-character. Usually, if you are going to badmouth someone or a group, be ready to accept any repercussions if you decide to do it over globals at all.
