I know some people like Razhak think that returning gear and being able to talk cross race is a bad thing with the Discord app. But it keeps things moving. I would rather spend 20-30 minutes fighting ppl and joking around with friends then spending that time trying to get a set together again.

The whole return gear thing is just crazy now though. Someone sneezes mid pk and expects a full return. Some people are conveniently always ld when they die in nice sets and others yell "freeze" or "ld" as soon as their connection isn't perfect. I guess that's just the way it is now.

I think that's the one thing that keeps me from pouring more hours and comitment into this game. Lack of trust in other players. I hate you guys.

Context:
Most times in the past where I’ve taken a break from this game, it’s been because of a catastrophic event like losing a rare/unique to lag/gank, .

I think this might mean you need a break from the game, when losing eq starts getting to you, its time to step outside and realize it doesn't matter if you have a heron or an eaxe :p

For me its about unfinished goals and PK that brings me back. Wotmud still offers the best PvP experience, even though these days the really good PK sessions are spread out a bit more than they used to be.

There is still a couple thousand articles to be written, 150 thousand more edits to be made, and then it will only be halfway done

Come over and try contributing about your favorite mud topics, favorite location... or just add some tidbits of information/knowledge that your unique experience over the years has given you.

Do some testing, write some scripts for whatever client you use... many different angles to still be involved and participate.

Yea there's a big difference in when to return things imo. If you're in a nice set don't expect it back. I don't. If you are low and about to die and you run like 7 rooms and drop link. Don't expect it back or to live. I'm talking more when having 1v1's or when its 2am for me and theres like 5-6 pkers on total. Rig and I will pk ppl and if we kill them just drop the gear and keep pk going so people aren't forced to just rent since is almost no one on. It all depends on the situation.

No one is entitled to any gear back. Like Dixon said, many people return to save time/speed up pk and usually abs and regular gear is returned.

People making a fuss or expecting returns are silly it's a nice gesture is all.

An eq return now and then is nothing bad. It used to be something that happened after good pk, or when you felt generous. Now it is almost pushed upon you, and you are ridiculed/hated/berated/bullied/taunted/etc on the Discord channel, if you dont do it by the same people over and over. Basically to me it seems a few are pushing this upon the many.

As I see it, at this moment this whole eq return craze is getting out of hand. I see whole setups on Discord happening where people die over and over, and get returned over and over again. It is deflating the qps gain towards rank for northern pkers.

PK on this mud used to be dangerous, risky. It was the payoff for the rewards.

It is basically why eq returns were actually forbidden at a specific time in the Mayene/Tear/Illian wars, because people were just raking in scalps en masse with no losses for either side, and racing towards master.

I see the same happening now in northern PK, aided by the simple and fast cross race communication that the Discord channel offers. Hell.. the other day I counted how often it was noted that Isabel's set was returned: i stopped counting at 6 times in the course of several hours... And that is just one person.

Someone explain to me how that is not wrong?

Totally agree. Will add that smobbing for re-eq so you can go pk more has always been a big part of the game for most people, and the current deathmatch-mud atmosphere is bad for the game. While some part of the population really does want to just log on and pk, those same people also log off if they don't find said pk immediately. Coupled with near permanent 2-3x exp and no need to go smob for anything, there is nothing left to do really so it's hard to blame them.

A lot of people look at eq return as "being nice" and keeping pk going, but in the long run it's making everything stagnant and boring. On the other end of things, on the rare occasion when I get my set back it is nice, but I do rather enjoy running around smobbing up some backup sets so I can go pk more, it gives me something to do when the mud is quiet. The less reasons people have to play while there isn't active pk going on, the more our numbers will dwindle. Likewise while exp is a little less exciting, it is quite trivialized now. Where people used to group up and hit preds and such for exp, now you can just wait for 3x and solo exp your levels back in an hour or two. One less "thing to do" in game.

All that to say, stop returning eq. Let it rot in a barrel somewhere. It's good for the mud to have equipment turnover, the more the better.

If you enjoy re-eqing from scratch, then don't go back and look for your eq at corpse. Quite simple.

Razhak, I don't remember 6 eq returns at one go. But then you also think wisdoms healing is 'mobol abuse' and someone fleeing to change an alias is 'abusing bash charge', so I'm not sure I trust your data. Also you know what hurts pk? When you yell about this stuff in the middle of pk in a completely non-IC manner. If you think something is unbalanced, make a post or mail imms.

Less returned equipment = more smobbing. That said there is a balance in not having a lot of players on the game like it used to be so maybe it all balances out. I do like how the Wisdoms always seem to place mixed items in the barrel for everyone, maybe there can be a clan that smobs for everyone :p
