Looking back at the log it is almost like I was bashed for 3 rounds before I started my bash. Was kinda weird.

Yeah, you were already zerk - looting will only hurt your chances of surviving. Hard to pick up in the moment though, looting is a good reaction to have.
Also could have walked out after you killed Steg, but that would have been a poor ending for a fun log like this.

The weight from the full loot kept you sitting down an extra round.
If you want to test the effect of weight on duration of sitting after a failed bash/after being bashed, just grab an armfull of limbs (they are nice and heavy) and load yourself out with them. Then go bash a buddy/get bashed by a buddy to see!
