The classic log has often been interpreted ironically. Mangler saying, "time to die," is comically reversed when he and his group are surprisingly slaughtered by a group of nobodies.
However, I argue that Mangler was referencing the end of Blade Runner, where Roy Batty says to Deckard, "Time to die." Knowing his fate, Mangler offers a melancholy reflection on the events to follow.
