While I am concerned that Aira did not vote yesterday for one of the Forsaken, I am just as concerned that Arthor may accidentally slay a Townsperson in the middle of the night!

"I've never done anything to hurt anyone, I keep to myself and pay my taxes... The best that I can anyway, I'm a poor old man hard on his luck. Why would the captain of the Town Watch accuse me of anything? Sure I've had my moments of senility, lost part of my vision fighting Seanchan for years to defend this village."

If I had half a mind I would call for her to be lynched, but I am tired of dying people, I had eyes on me and my friends all night as we drank and danced the night merrily away. If you kill this innocent old man then I beseech you to lynch Aira and Mariel next, but as for me, I will not call for blood, there has been enough death and I would hate to be one to call for the blood of someone who could be innocent."

The crowd was bickered back and forth, some calling for Arthor's lynch, others for Aira's. As the day wore on, more and more began to call for Aira's lynch. Though she tried to dissuade them, they only grew more and more determined. Finally, as dusk descended upon the once-quiet town, a mob descended upon Aira, dragging her to the hangman's noose. She yelled and cursed, struggled frantically to pull away. Suddenly she began to cackle.

"You think this is the end of it? The Great Lord will have your town, and Toman Head and the world! There will be no new turning of the Wheel you fools, the Great Lord--"

Her voice was cut off as the rope was pulled taut. Only her strangled last breaths could be heard. Satisfied with a good days work, the crowd slowly dispersed to their homes.

The murmur of hushed voices began the fill the square almost before dawn. A nervous tension filled the air when the Mayor arrived, but he simply admonished them to go about their business. Nothing untoward had been reported during the night.

As he watched them disperse, he allowed himself a moment of relief. Perhaps this whole mess was nearly over….
