Question about WoTMUD

What would it take for us to get an active and serious coder for wotmud? I'd be willing to donate to paypal or something like that if we needed to pay for one. Just curious.

think paying for one is a no no since its a non profit. As far as I know Flash is the one who sits on the code and only lets a very few trusted folks in on it, so I guess it would take for him to come back and put hours into vetting coders for a mud that roughly 30 actively play and maybe 50 check in on every now and again, so pretty much a no go I reckon.

Not entirely true. Non-profits pay staff all the time as a part of operating costs. So long as, at the end of day, Flash isn’t making profit, a 501(c)(3) shouldn’t preclude paying a coder (assuming it is a 501(c)(3) ...)

I may be completely wrong... most likely I am, but I have seen this conversation start up a dozen times over the years and I will reiterate what I remember the reasons are for how things are... most likely wrong remember.

Number 1: Flash only lets trusted, vetted, and trusted... did I mention trusted... people work on code. Its not about getting someone in there to do stuff, they have had that before and some of those people stole code and did some other stuff.

Number 2: Circle/Diku code license makes it so that when money becomes involved things get messy. Nobody wants messy.

Number 3: When Mr. Jordan was alive he endorsed WoTMUD and said we could stay up and running, but I think the thought is if the Jordan Estate sees money being made/paid around his intellectual property they might not allow that permission to continue.

Again, just stuff I have seen/heard over the years. Most likely wrong.
