Hurricane
Hurricane
Thread to discuss hurricane.
The one change I really would like to see is for it not to dismount people. People should keep their horses and fly to the same room just like fireworks.
Besides this, I personally think it's a great weave and I love using it. It is most effective used with a solo hero vs. a large group. Though hero can have a large group also waiting in the wings which makes it most devastating.
Having said that it has a long timer, and with the weave malus vs a large group really can only be utilized on a full dodge char. And a full dodge char can easily get bashed during the timer (or if the timer is interrupted by a hit or another weave). Nowadays a full dodge channeler getting bashed by a big group often means death or fleeing crit.
So I think the risk vs. reward is actually pretty balanced.
Before you respond with impassioned opinions, please consider whether or not you have actually used the weave successfully and unsuccessfully in pk. I'm actually being a little facetious because I can't remember seeing someone besides me or my alts use hurricane successfully in pk. Obviously doesn't mean it has never happened, I just can't remember it.

Re: Hurricane
The long timer can be countered by the fact you can roll it without a target. Rolling a cane in a room and waiting for the group to hit is highly effective. I do agree losing your mount is a pain. Frustrating as hell when you use it just outside a city gate to scatter and dismount the group coming to hit.
I think if I had a choice it would make it require a target so you have a chance to react to it. Maybe even make it a bit longer.
Disclaimer: have used it in seanchan PK in the past. It is one of the reason certain SS patties are now hurricane-proof.

Re: Hurricane
Hurricane shouldn't be able to toss you onto water and instakill you either. The long timer of it is justifiable, however, I think it should have to be a targeted ability, if not then the caster should be hurricaned too.
Re: Hurricane
Humans aren't using it because it screws them. Next we'll all be extolled that only Mangler has real experience with sonic boom, a spell that again screws humans and their horses.
Hurricane is old garbage that should be removed. I kid, I kid. Nothing is going to be changed. Just like HoA.
(1) The immortals in theory go to reasonable care to select locations for in-game creatures. Hurricane violates this.
(2) Hurricane tosses people onto water and instantly kills them. Jestin has been using it in watery zones - pour your hatred out on him.
(3) As indicated, Hurricane separates humans from their horses. But that's ok because all humans are wolfbrothers and have infinite moves. Also, we bash better dismounted.
(4) The people who run the game have already decided that fireworks are garbage and should cost at least a gold ring.
(5) This is essentially a status spell that doesn't take into account the level of the target.
I don't know how I feel about Jocelyn's suggestion - this is a terribly static game - in an ideal world we'd test a change like that and see how we feel about it.

Re: Hurricane
No comment on hurricane in hero vs many situation, especially when raiding, which I have no problem with. It's way more irritating up north, for a few reasons.
1. You generally only kill the people you were going to kill anyway, but decrease the chances of killing valuable targets.
2. It's a gimmick you only get to try once in a PK session--it kills incentive for the other side to stick around, so you're banking on cleaning house all at once. That rarely happens. More likely you catch the abser in a burni without a vial who was lazy enough to be up north on a gray, while everyone else leaves.
3. Like fireworks, it's more likely to be used by a side that's already in the lead or when things are fairly even--there's no point in caning a group if you don't have the man power to take someone down quickly once you run into them.
It's a bad tactic. On the other hand, it's comedic potential is unparalleled.

Re: Hurricane
The horse issues and water is what makes hurricane more of a PK-killer than a useful weave. When I'm leading a group and Jestin is PKing I'm constantly aware of having to keep personal moves high, be wary of chasing into zones that have water in them, and once we're all caned we all lose our horses anyway and have to head south to get new horses/give up because we're sad.
Part of the problem is he's a git who thinks it's fun to hurricane people, which goes to show you should all keep practicing HOA bash until he gives up hurricane

Re: Hurricane
I concur and when or if used to send kajin onto dusty it sucks.
Only useful for DL really as horses mentioned non ls . Quite like quake in that context.
It's more of a get away really..last resort.

On the bright side, he's listened to the posts regarding hurricane and started a post about it to weigh the pro's and con's the people have!
Re: Hurricane
Though it can be irritating I enjoy the different strategies these weaves force to counter them. You really need to be aware of your opponent and the limitations of the weave. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe you can hurricane from an indoor room.
Having been on the wrong side of hurricane many times I can see the frustrations with the weave, for example Theid and I fighting Jestin east of Tar Valon just for me to get hurricaned into a locked smob room causing both Theid and I to die.
I do not however see this as being any reason to remove one of the few truly startling or random factors of the game.
If you don't like playing against the weave, don't pk people who use it, Smob, get some quests done, go craft something.
Sorry, not sorry?

A lot of good points here, didn’t fully realize that people hated this so much. I’ll stop practicing until the horse and water thing is fixed if ever.
Just FYI I’ve been using this on LS vs DS for like 15 years now. No idea why you would think you can’t use it on LS, what exactly is the difference??
