Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
I clench my butt cheeks in anticipation.
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
Yeah. I picked up his Arcanum Unbounded which had Edgedancer and Mistborn: Secret History. Both of which were really good, not to mention the other short stories.Madin wrote:Edgedancer is basically Stormlight 2.5, while you wait.
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
Honestly, the Wheel of Time are the only books I have read as a series. Should I catch up on these?
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
You don't have to, but I'd start with Mistborn before going into Stormlight Archives. It won't be super apparent how they connect, but Mistborn is pretty great even as a self-contained series (or two series, I guess) and you get more out of the mythology/easter eggs in Stormlight if you've read Mistborn. The only thing I say just avoid reading until you Mistborn/Stormlight done is Arcanum Unbounded, which is the collection of short stories, some which have major spoilers for the main novels.hasp wrote:Honestly, the Wheel of Time are the only books I have read as a series. Sanderson's stuff is better than Jordan in the general sense that it's substantially tighter and better paced than Wheel of Time with a magic system that is not as arbitrary.

Thanks for the information brother
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
For the most part Masaj is right. The stormlight archive does have plenty of filler. I read here that the second book was almost called "the book of endless pages" and that is what it felt like. It's still worth reading. But yeah, start with Mistborn.
I'm a big fan of the Reckoners trilogy. The first book was my favorite, but the other two were also good. But this is separate from the Cosmere.

Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
I started with Stormlight, then read Mistborn. To echo everyone else I wish I had read Mistborn first because after Stormlight, Mistborn seemed crude and unpolished, like Masaj said I tried to keep up with the alamancy or whatever it was called and couldn’t make sense of it sometimes. That and certain events or situations felt too convienent, just to move the story along.
Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
Brandon Sanderson is good. Read Mistborn, liked it, read the Wax + Wayne stuff, liked that too, and then read the Stormlight Archives and loved that. *sigh* here we go again waiting for another fantasy series to finish heh. I really dig the concept of the cosmere and everything being tied together even if different worlds / magic systems.
I like Kingkiller Chronicles a lot too but Kvothe should just get with Fela already instead of pining after Denna x.x

Re: Stormlight Archive: Oathbringer
I actually totally disagree, I loved the magic system in mistborn, totally understood and tracked it. Where as in Stormlight, that magic system seems nowhere near as detailed and easily understandable.
Loved all the mistborn originals, and enjoied seeing him continue writing them.
Stormlight is great, just in a different way, and just finished a reread of books 1 and 2, so really excited about 3! LOL, if you're like me, and hate interrupting the story for the interlude things, he puts in stormlight... don't skip them, b/c you'll just end up reading them later and realizing you missed a lot. :p

"Macmillan audio presents The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, read for you by Michael Kramer and Kate Redding..."
