Democrats picked a political elite in a climate that dislikes the political elite. I suppose I could just yell in caps rather than try to explain. Perhaps a catchy slogan or saying that has no basis in fact, but plenty of myth. I don't know if you meant my post or the others before, or all, but I can say in my last lengthy post I actually did try to rewrite it so it was... familiar and not accusing or angry (or at least as little as I could be under the circumstances). If being intelligent and well-spoken is the crime, then firetrucking toss me in jail, cause I'll keep it up.

Re: America....
Goes both ways no question which is our problem. I can only speak to people "on my side" and hope that I can convince them that we need to listen to the other side.
Good for you that you're intelligent and well spoken Skittles. Now let's all get to the next stage where we use our education combined with empathy to put ourselves in other people's shoes and try to see the world from their eyes. That doesn't mean launching argument after argument at them supporting our current view. That means really trying to understand why they take the actions that they do.
Probably too soon, but very applicable quote from the first episode of Newsroom:
"You know why people don't like liberals? Because they lose. If liberals are so firetrucking smart, how come they lose so goddamn always?"

Re: America....
What i find ironic about Trump is that the far left in Europe should love him. Anti-globalization, anti-trade agreements, less meddling by the US in conflicts, anti-nato, Russia-friendly etc etc.
Re: America....
Your bugs scare me Choen! Actually I spent 2 months living outside Sydney when I was a teenager. Now that I have a good job, maybe I can come back, though we have to see if policy changes ruin my company (highly possible).
And to Maegon, I see that a lot. Honestly, even a condescending attitude is far, far nicer than most of the "firetrucking libtard assholes" types of responses you generally get from conservatives. Wotmud usually actually involves real conversations, perhaps cause it's more community-oriented, and I appreciate that. We can get passionate, but rarely spout stuff off. Recently I got called "boy." The guy actually put boy in quotes. Apparently I was supposed to know that this was a Trump quote about "dumbass college boys" or something and I was supposed to be offended.
To Pial, the Democratic Party picked an intelligent, well-qualified person in a time that needs intelligent, well-qualified people to run the country/world. I'm not about to vote for the opposite.

Re: America....
The DNC didn't give anyone a real shot at getting the nomination other than Hillary (this was a mistake). The democrats selected someone who not only is a political elite when the political elite are looked at with suspicion but also whose arguments for electing her were "I have experience and I'm not Trump" (this was a mistake). I think the left operated as if the world is like they wish it was rather than how it is (mistake). The type of people whose vote could go one way or another do not care about the endless sexism and racism charges, they care about their perceived status in society, being able to pay their bills and feed their children, and to have extra spending money. So no, Hillary was not the intelligent nominee.Skittles wrote: To Pial, the Democratic Party picked an intelligent, well-qualified person in a time that needs intelligent, well-qualified people to run the country/world. Just to interject here: if you haven't watched Newsroom and you're even mildly interested in politics/media, you should watch it. If the first episode doesn't hook you, move on and forget it. It's only like 2 seasons and is thoroughly good, despite the typical Sorkin stuff.Wept wrote: "You know why people don't like liberals? Because they lose. Cut to around 3:00. It's amazingly pertinent to this election cycle, imo; it all goes to hell without an informed electorate. Sadly, our elections have progressively become popularity contests where policies and principles are largely ignored for headlines perpetuated by partisan media. Most Americans can talk in some limited scope about Hillary's emails or Trump and any number of his scandals, but few actually know much about legitimate policy stances.
Re: America....
I was very sad when Newsroom ended, I really enjoyed that show

On a serious note, from what I can tell it's usually just misinformation. Doesn't need understanding. A friend posted Rush Limbaugh explaining how Hillary trafficked in national security.... You don't need to understand someone's reaction to that. If it was true, then their reaction would be justified, but what is needed is explaining how it's just plain lies. And then of course I'm coming down with facts n dung that are all libtarded educated bullshit. Anyways, the understanding part is there. It comes with the huge investments into job training for blue collar workers in the 21st century and support for higher minimum wages. I suppose I can read management tricks for making it sound like you're being a super good listener.
Re: America....
Problem is the lack of trust in the system. Why would you happily pay your taxes or pay more taxes if you aren't confident your government will spend them properly, and not just pocket them/spend them on shitty projects.
If it was a trust worthy system, I'm sure people would happily pay their taxes, to see infrastructure and wellfare projects rise if the government was trust worthy. But being how it is currently I imagine most of the people are very dissatisfied with the establishment. I imagine that is also the same argument that could be used for people who are overly attached to their guns and second ammendment rights.

Omg, thank you! Wonderful! Had never heard of it before.
