America....
Re: America....
I get what your saying, but in many ways I feel the other way around. Trump is enough of a wildcard that he might be able to obstruct the psychotic measures that Republican legislators have been trying to push for the last few decades. The real question is whether Republicans were serious about everything they tried to do in the Obama years--repealing Obamacare would be a fiscal disaster, for instance--or whether they were just obstructing, knowing that they would fail anyway.Wept wrote:I think the Senate and House will keep him in check.
I'm still in rage mode, but I might try to catch up on the rest of the thread later.

Re: America....
I LOLed. But hey, there's a reason I never mark papers down for bad grammar

Re: America....
In what world was the implementation and subsequent effects of the ACA not a fiscal disaster in every possible measure? I realize its just a sunk cost at this point, but saying that it shouldn't be adjusted or repealed based on the cost is pretty funny.
The good news is that noone's premiums went up, everyone got to keep their doctor, noone's plans were cancelled, and we didn't force paying citizens out of insurance so we could insure a lower number of non-paying citizens while simultaneously raising rates on the remaining citizens who paid for insurance...oh wait. All while adding some $1.2 trillion dollars to our absurdly high deficit. Trump throwing the trash that is the ACA into the annals of history is one of the only silver linings to this election cycle.

Re: America....
That's one of the ones I saw, nods.
Re: America....
House/senate are now republican also. And I get that our vote has effects on the world, but Clinton (as i see it) is no better than trump. I was undecided till i pulled in to the voting house and heard her calling trump supporters idiots more or less. Most people that voted for him are upset with how Obama promised so much for the jobs coming back and nothing changed for the middle class . My medical insurance premium increased, no pay raise, no new jobs. The rich get richer and those that ride the government coattails got more handouts that my taxes pay for. It was said last night that the democrats only care for the innercities when its election time then its adios. Its not that they wanted trump for trump. The people rose up and used trump as an outcry for change, as bad as it seems its true. I am a southern Alabama some college educated white male raising 2 kids by myself with a job that takes most of my time. Anyone that knows me knows I am not a racist or a sexist, but our country cant get out of its own way. This shocked everyone that Trump won but the reason he won is most of your blue collar working people come to the call when hillary started trashing us.The democrats did this to themselves. I could give a damn less about the wall on the Mexico border. I could care less about emails on a server. I want my kids to have a future, and right now we don't have one in this country. My kids could get a free education over in some countries bordering russia but not here. Free health care in Canada but not here. Big business and Big money have a stranglehold on America and is killing it. Head Quarters in America but factories in Mexico where they can make their product for a half a fraction of the price. Then they bring it back here and sell it for 10x what it cost to make.
I know I rambled on but know that its not just the common people that did this but also the rich and government officials and also other countries had a hand in this.

Re: America....
This is what she said (just so we're clear that she didn't call out the entire white, working class):
"To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."
"And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric."
I guess this is where we don't see eye to eye. I think she's pretty accurate. We have the same kind of numbers in Europe. According to the popular vote, Hillary claims about a quarter of the US have these tendencies one way or another. Our brown shirts, who are already in our parliament, have between 20-25% of the votes depending on the polls. White, middle to lower class people who feel like their voice isn't heard. They go on to spout their populist garbage about immigrants, LGBT, Islam and anyone who tells them they're wrong is just being politically correct. Because these people know the TRUTH. Because these people live in the REAL world and the media are just being lapdogs for the liberals.
If you have time you should really read up on what is going on in the developed world outside of the United States. Again, just look at Hungary and Greece. Look at Putin and Le Pen. These are people who applaud Donald Trump and hate Hillary Clinton. That should tell you something about your guy.
Indeed the people rose up. They kept the minimum wage opposing, bible thumping, set-on-destroying-earth-asap, anti-science republicans in the drivers seat and topped it off with Donald Trump. The same Trump who, among his promises, will do away with the EPA. I hope your situation improves, Kennett, I really do. I just wonder what world you leave for your children to inherit.

Re: America....
She is a traitor. The fact that she was even able to run is a disgrace. He is a buffoon. Id rather a buffoon in office than a traitor.
Re: America....
If I may, I would like to respond to these legitimate fears. I do not mean to demean your views, but I would like to challenge the factual premises.
I wholeheartedly empathize with your pain. And your dream for a better future for your children. I would, however, question whether the vote you cast actually moved toward the you hope for.
***Again, not at all an attack on you personally.
There was only 1 candidate making legitimate proposals to subsidize in part or full public higher-education. And that was not Trump.Kennett wrote:My kids could get a free education over in some countries bordering russia but not here.
There was only 1 candidate that had a legitimate plan to try to fix the ACA (it has its problems, I will fully admit). Trump was not able to articulate a single health care policy, other than he would replace the ACA with...something.Kennett wrote: Free health care in Canada but not here.
This one I happen to agree, but it is not as simple as making jobs back here by moving headquarters back to America. Americans who are in the lower middle class and below cannot afford what those goods would be priced at if they were made by American corporations. That is why Americans buy lower quality goods/food; because they are more affordable. In a country with stronger labor laws and regulations, the price point is higher so that the business makes a profit.Kennett wrote: Big business and Big money have a stranglehold on America and is killing it. Agreed. But there was only 1 candidate set to roll back Citizens United, which not only opened the door to campaign finance corruption but serves as a presidential underpinning to the power of Big Business vice vi insulating corporate money as protected speech.Kennett wrote: Big business and Big money have a stranglehold on America and is killing it.
