I think you have it backwards. Most of us western europeans have pretty "great" countries by most comparable standards. We live long lives, we're happy and still manage to be productive all the while enjoying more or less "free" healthcare. Us caring and being outraged by Donald Trump is partly self serving in terms of macro economic effects. More accurately though, we're more like the younger brother who went to college and came back home to stop our burly, loud but loveable older brother from going headfirst into meth-addiction because his friends told him it'd be a sweet ride and that all his problems would go away.

I can't speak for everyone, but certainly I'm not looking to America to necessarily provide a direct, self-involved positive impact on my own individual country, but for the stake we have that a country like yours can offer such a huge positive impact to the world (and conversely a negative one). That's not just the impact on our own lives, but our friends in the US and around the world. That isn't just economies, that's cultural attitude, global peace, climate change, social equality. Every single one of these I see Clinton offering a far more positive position than Trump.

I get that from an individual voter's perspective, and especially those who feel beaten down and at the mercy of the system, the over-arching impact of those policies might seem distant, but from a global perspective they're pretty damn important.

Just a collection of the reasons I am voting for Clinton:

- She actually wants to be president, as opposed to wanting to launch a TV station or funnel voter money into numerous businesses she owns
- Dedication to pushing for an amendment invalidating Citizens United
- Appointment of judicial nominees that more closely align with my personal views on constitutional law
- Ability to admit that policies of the past (including her husband's crime bill) are no longer working and need to be re-addressed
- Her shift, thanks in no small part to Senator Sanders's campaign, toward re-evaluation predatory student loans and driving down an interest rate that is 8x as high as that extended to Wall Street banks after the recession

Can't really say that your trying to stop something.. Your simply saying that we don't want trump to be president but can't do dung about it.. and I wouldn't say we're the older brother.. we're more of an asshole that's a supervisor and you don't like the fact we're choosing between being self destructive that fucks you over or curropt as firetruck even worse then what we were previously that fucks you over less.

I thought it went without saying that there's going to be at least one supreme court nomination and possibly more during the term of our next president. Seeing as how that could impact law and the direction of the country for decades it's something I would assume people considered?!

Respectfully, I am not sure you can blanket assume that an American voter has thought about anything beyond the scope of a narrow talking point. And I say that about both sides of the aisle.

I try not to be political, and I told myself I wasn't going to get involved with this thread, but I'd like to say that I'm a conservative and I have nothing against gay people. Saying a blatant generalization like this makes you no better than the people you are describing as bigoted. And it makes me no longer respect your political opinion.

Meanwhile, while I do not agree with every single one of these, that's ok, because this is a rational way to approach the discussion and I respect Ashlee's thought process in reaching these conclusions.

Just my $.02

Fair enough, you got me! I guess I should say anyone who at least attempts to use reason!

That's assuming the senate would even do their jobs of hearing a Clinton nomination.
