Born in the Sun Palace’s shadow to a minor noble courtier and an ambitious mother, Nyxra was a naturally happy and bright young girl.
While other children of the High Churn spent their time observing courtly galas and learning the cruel rules of the Game of Houses, Nyxra found herself entirely detached from their ambitions.
Instead, her boundless energy was driven by a deep fascination with the stories of old; she constantly sought out texts on history, ancient lore, and grew obsessed with understanding the nature of the universe and how the One Power truly worked, always wishing she could discover the secrets of old weaves
Nyxra’s parents had always been completely satisfactory by most noble estimates; she did not lack tutors or fine silk.
They were neither perfect nor deeply flawed, yet they were Cairhienin, with hopes and expectations for courtly advancement that often exceeded reality.
They were, however, unable to hide their disappointment when Nyxra discovered, during a high-stakes salon involving the minor houses, that she suffered from violent panic and nausea under direct, intense social interrogation, unable to sit still as required of her station.
Who can say whether the idea of a grander stage was misguided or not, but when her parents requested an audience in Tear to secure a political betrothal, the request was, by custom, granted after weeks of maneuvering.
They explained that the rigid structure of Tairen high society would be easier to manage.
They were even compassionate as they burned the letters, at their own insistence, of the match that she had ruined by blurting out the absolute, unfiltered truth during the first formal dance.
They could not hide their shame, and the Tairen lords did not bother to hide their smugness at her lack of poise.
At a high-end silk merchant’s shop in Tear, while her parents haggled over a shipment of silver-embroidered coats for the voyage home, Nyxra decided in her decade or so of wisdom, that her family, and the Game of Houses entirely, would be better off without her.
They sought her frantically, and had they gone to some other city, perhaps Nyxra’s pale skin and sharp Cairhienin accent would have stood out enough to track her down.
As it was, she hid in the lower city, her boundless energy keeping her moving.
Her family's carriage eventually departed, and Nyxra’s honest inner debate around whether she should beg for forgiveness was concluded for her.

And there starts her journey:
