Its the Small things that Count

Post by Lona » Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:35 pm

After a brief hello in the Tower square, Novice Perenelle mentions her want to raise higher in the Tower, but her lack of healing knowledge. Jumping at the chance to help Accepted Lona and Accepted Vala give a lesson on delving and healing in the Yellow Ajah Wing.

View of: Lona
Participants: Lona, Perenelle, Vala

In the Yellow Apartment
A soft basket of woven rushes lies beside a plush armchair, spilling
finely-spun yarn onto the seamless stone of the floor. A small human skull
occupies the center of a delicately-carved wall bracket, a faded miniature
portrait hanging immediately above. Through a curtain of strung wooden
beads lies a bedchamber, with plain, serviceable linens in evidence.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: woodendoor
Perenelle Flamel, Fledgling Novice is standing here.
Vala Galanis, Tower Accepted is standing here.
An aged Yellow busies herself with some knitting.

Perenelle curtseys gracefully.

Vala curtseys gracefully.

Perenelle looks around with interest.

Lona curtseys to the Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah and moves to a rug near the middle of the floor. "Let’s think about healing first. Do you know how to delve Perenelle?"

Perenelle says 'Not often up in these halls. Did a little bit of finding lost items once or twice up here though.'

Perenelle says 'Oh, um, not really? Never had it explained but read a bit about it.'

Lona smiles at Vala. "Would you mind being a patient?"

Perenelle chuckles politely.

Vala says 'Of course.'

Vala says 'I mean I wouldn't mind.'

Lona kneels down on the carpet balance her bottom on her heels like one trained to do so silently. "Have a lay down would you Vala, head near me please."

Perenelle settles in nearby, sitting on the carpet to watch.

Vala lays down on the carpet with her head near Lona.

Lona reaches out to the other side of Vala taking both of Perenelle's hands in their own. "Sometimes the best training is hands on in a clinic. I will channel first, you second."

Perenelle nods and listens carefully.

Perenelle says 'I do that when tending to wounds, taking a closer look but without the channeling.'

Vala says 'Same here. A keen eye tells you a lot about a patient.'

Lona reaches out feeling the familiar warmth and exhilaration of saidar. "This weave is delicate; in others you must use your full strength. The smaller the flow, the less the patient feels. Vala this might feel slightly uncomfortable."

Vala nods in agreement.

Perenelle watches intently as Lona gathers saidar to her direction.

Lona pulls a thread thin flow of spirit from herself crossing Perenelle's and her hands over Vala's chest. The thin flow of spirit flowing down to touch Vala as Lona's eyes move to and fro as if examining something before her very eyes. "When you use the weave like this."

Perenelle blushes.

Lona says 'It will allow you to feel aches, pains, wounds, clots, bleeding, some of the strongest healers can even feel migraines. It allows you to better know the depth, and size of the wounds inside the body.'

Perenelle says '"Oh, that's very delicate, I see. I may have overpowered it a lot."'

Lona nods and maintains her hold on saidar allowing the weave of spirit to dissipate. "Now you try."

Vala does her best impersonation of a log.

Perenelle chews on her lower lip and opens herself to the Source. She takes a deep breath, spinning out a thin web of spirit, which collapses as it’s too thin.

Lona nods and looks on with encouragement, "Try again."

Perenelle huffs out a breath and nods. "Mmm, went too far the other way. Okay."

Perenelle draws again, once more trying to find the right strength. It holds as it settles into Vala, though Perenelle has a bead of sweat as she concentrates hard to keep it going without overpowering.

Lona looks on with warm Hazel eyes watching the novice form the weave. "This is good, maintain, you are stronger than you think. Try to match your breathing to the pulse of the weave."

Perenelle nods distractedly but holds and taking a bit of time but slowly matching her breathing to the pulsing she feels from the flows she's maintaining.

Lona says 'That is good Perenelle, now what do you feel?'

Perenelle says '"Hmm, slight ache in the back, probably from lying so still."'

Lona gives a comforting smile to Vala. "Doing alright Vala?"

Vala nods in agreement.

Perenelle pauses considering what's else she's feeling.

Vala says 'I'm fine, thanks.'

Vala says 'I'm a little sore here and there from exertion, nothing major.'

Perenelle nods slowly.

Lona looks to Perenelle, "Ok now you can let the weave fade. We will move on to curing those aches."

Perenelle says 'Yes, bit of soreness in arms and legs, but not a lot else. So she's in good health?'

Vala says 'I feel well, yes.'

Perenelle pulls the weave back and out of Vala, then lets it drop. Blowing out a breath and shaking her hands a little.

Lona nods "I find her to be in good health, if slightly dehydrated."

Vala says 'Oh, that I can fix.'

Perenelle giggles a little.

Lona releases Perenelle's hands "I know it can be hard to practice smaller weaves when most others need so much. However, it is a key to healing."

Perenelle says 'Strange way of feeling things, not as easy to interpret as I thought it might be.'

Perenelle nods at Lona, listening to the lesson.

Lona looks to Vala and smiles in thanks. "Shall we practice the weave to cure those small aches and pains?"

Vala says 'Sure, if you like.'

Perenelle says 'Right, always ask permission.'

Lona maintains her hold on saidar and pulls a flow of water from the air, earth from the foundation stones and two flows of spirit from around her. "That is right, you must ask permission first in most cases. Now these 4 flows are all that is needed to cure simple wounds. Cuts, scratches, aches, pains, stopping bleeding in larger wounds, and for those injures that are too delicate like consumption and flues where the body cannot take the exertion."

Perenelle looks at the weaves, gauging their strength and how to pull them together.

Lona keeps her hands still at her side as if trained to do so, the flows moving and snaking their way into place creating a net the size of the patient which she holds in place. "This is what it looks like fully formed. Now you try to form it. I will hold this one as a guide. Remember, think small."

Perenelle nods and draws forth the elements as shown, though the water weave is quite a bit stronger. She frowns and tones it down with a little effort. Moving them to match the way Lona is holding them.

Lona nods "Now hold it, One, two, Three, Four, Five."

Lona watches the novice, knowing the exertion when the weave is first learned. "Now you can let it go."

Perenelle lets them go, blowing out her breath as she does.

Perenelle says 'Cloud Dancing you usually want stronger, water especially. So, fighting a bit with my own talent.'

Lona lets her weave dissipate and releases Saidar. "I give you permission to heal me Perenelle. As I gave the lesson, I will see the results. Accepted Vala is an adept healer, so she will step in if anything goes wrong."

Vala says 'Oh I doubt that will be necessary.'

Vala slowly gets up from the floor and stretches a little.

Perenelle nods and taking a breath to center herself then brings the flows up again, this time the water weave is the right strength and size, she brings them together as she settles it into Lona. Letting the healing take place while holding things together.

Lona shivers slightly feeling the weave settle into herself, the ache in her wrist from earlier fading. "Very good, now you have a new skill to add to your arsenal of weaves."

Vala nods in agreement.

Perenelle let's it fade and let's go of her hold on saidar, a slight look of disappointment as she does.

Perenelle says 'Oh, that makes a whole more sense to see then just reading in the books.'

Vala says 'It worked on me too, about as well as a good night's rest.'

Vala beams a smile at Perenelle.

Lona pulls a lemon drop from her purse and pops it in her mouth feeling the slight hunger from being healed. "Now a few words of caution with healing."

Perenelle says 'Yes, Accepted Lona?'

Lona says 'The patient will have hunger afterwards. I carry hard sugar candies, and if I can, have meat at the ready. Simple dried meat will do. You also cannot heal yourself."'

Perenelle shifts to her knees then stands, rubbing her backside a bit and stretching from sitting for a good while.

Lona says 'That is why Aes Sedai often travel in groups, to make sure one can heal should another fall.'

Vala nods at Lona.

Perenelle says 'Oh yes, heard about being hungry but not about the candies helping. That's a good idea.'

Lona says 'Healing with Saidar is a wonderful skill, but you should also learn to heal without it. In the west and even south, the invaders look for women like us to make us into weapons. Healing someone does no good if you find a collar snapped around your neck.'

Lona closes her eyes a moment pushing back memories to wish to flood in.

Lona looks to Vala, "Anything to add? We all have our own personal touches.

Perenelle considers the words about the invaders and the injunction about traveling to certain places as an Accepted.

Vala says 'No, that was a good point about food. I carry extra in case I need to heal someone because they'll be starving afterwards.'

Perenelle says 'So if I set up a medical station here in Tar Valon, make sure its well-stocked with food along with the supplies of herbs, water, bandages.'

Perenelle nods to herself.

Vala nods at Perenelle.

Lona stands up making a little noise and dusts off her skirt. "That is healing, in a small way. Eldrenia Sedai will have more pointers if you seek her out. She taught me after all."

Lona grins warmly.

Perenelle says 'Yes, um...hmm.'

Perenelle looks a little nervous about approaching Eldrenia Sedai again.

Lona says 'I am most interested to learn from Etain Sedai. She was out on the field before I became a novice and has recently returned. I wonder what weaves she has discovered.'

Vala nods at Lona.

Vala says 'I was about to suggest Perenelle speak with her if possible.'

Perenelle says 'I've met Etain Sedai, actually. Before I was brought to the Tower. '

Lona nods to Vala. "Speak with any of them you can find. I learn every day from Aes Sedai. Even watching how they handle things can be a lesson."
Vala nods in agreement.

Lona says 'Believe in yourself Perenelle. You are stronger than you think, you will have to be to face what would come next.'

Perenelle says 'I try, though they often rush through then out of the city.'

Perenelle nods in agreement.

Lona says 'I find a pigeon (whisper or forum mail) can yield results.'

Perenelle says 'Alright I'll keep all this in mind then.'

Perenelle says 'I think I need to sweep the Novice chambers though now.

Lona says 'The Warders are good teachers to, for basic field medicine. Or they should be with the number of salves and cures they carry.'

Vala snickers softly.

Lona say's 'I should be resting to; I have to attend mother tonight.'

Perenelle curtsies to the Accepted and the Aes Sedai.

Perenelle leaves east. >>
