Summoned to the Brown Ajah Study by Aelrena Sedai

POV: Yve the Wearied Novice

Location: The Study of the Brown Ajah


An overworked, grumbling scribe bustles into the room, scowling darkly.

The scribe says 'Aelrena Sedai requests your presence in the Brown study, yve.'

Finishing her errand, the scribe turns on her heel and scurries back the way she came.


(hurried novice noises)


You knock on the door.

The carveddoor is opened from the other side.

Study of the Brown Ajah
Tall, arched windows in the northern wall open to a balcony, providing a
choice view of the Erinin as it flows south from the Borderlands. Half the
seating in the room is drawn up around the windows, showing that the
occupants appreciate the panorama. The remaining seats are drawn up in
circles of six to eight, allowing Brown Sisters to discuss the furtherance
of knowledge, or new theories in an informal atmosphere. Colorful wall
hangings depicting still lifes decorate the pale white walls.

Danelle Sedai, sitter for the Brown Ajah stands here deep in thought.


Aelrena looks up to the door briefly even as the glow of the one power fades from around
her.

You curtsey before her.

Aelrena says 'Ah, I see you found your way here successfully child. '

You say 'Aelrena Sedai, you summoned me, yes?'

Aelrena nods, gesturing to a wooden chair across from her perch upon the window sill.

You say 'I'm not in trouble, am I?'

Aelrena says 'Please have a seat child.'

Aelrena arches an eyebrow.

Yve sits in the chair.

Aelrena says 'Have you done something to be in trouble?'

You say 'Only a little bit, and by accident, Aelrena Sedai.'

Aelrena's mouth thins as she gestures for you to continue.

You say 'I spoke with Tolza Sedai about the incident while learning the travel weave.'

You say 'I appeared... not where I was supposed to be going.'

You say 'But I came right back.'

Yve shifts nervously in her seat.

Aelrena says 'Ah, if another sister has already seen to it, then I will not look any
further.'

Yve breathes a sign of relief.

Aelrena says 'Though you can expect that I will follow up with Tolza, should I find that
you have lied to me...'

You say 'I am doing my best to live as though I had already taken the oaths, Aelrena
Sedai.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Good, then you've at least started on the path to wisdom.'

Aelrena says 'Now...'

Aelrena glances out the window briefly before fixing her umber eyes wholely upon the
child.

Aelrena says 'Tell me what you have learned since you've donned the white, child.'


You say 'I've learned so much. Mostly not to be always afraid.'

You say 'But in terms of the power, I've spent much time practicing with Sheriam Sedai,
learning how to travel using the power, and find people and things in ways I'd never
realised were possible.'

Aelrena says 'Everything in moderation, though a certain dose of fear is healthy for those
who are learning to channel the One Power.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

You say 'I'm still scared of making too many mistakes and not learning quickly enough, and
being ... expelled from the tower.'

Aelrena nods grimly, though the corner of her mouth quirks up.

Aelrena says 'So long as you work hard, and don't make foolish mistakes, I believe you'll
find the Tower will not let go as easily as all of that.'

You say 'Less scared of being burned though, I must admit, despite trying to learn weaves
of fire.'

You giggle.

Aelrena grimaces faintly, "Hopefully with supervision, at the very least."

You nod in agreement.

Aelrena says 'What have you learned of the Tower itself?'

Aelrena crosses her ankles as she studies the child before her.

Aelrena looks at you.

You say 'That the building is as beautiful and complex as the people that live in it.'

You say 'I've been studying the roles of the Ajahs.'

Aelrena says 'Oh? Do tell what you've found.'

You say 'I've found that there is more to each than meets the eye, such as the Green Ajah,
not just being about battling the shadow at the last battle, but also having care of the
warders.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Certainly, the Ajahs are more complex than some would have you believe, and
they do find themselves rather... interested in the Gaidin.'

Aelrena says 'What have you found of the Brown Ajah, child?'

You say 'the guardians of knowledge as well as finders. Maintaining our history and
heritage as much as finding out new ways to use old knowledge or recapture what was lost.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

You say 'I've spent a lot of time in the library, I've never seen so many books in one
place.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Not an inappropriate place for a novice to spend her time, though of course,
I hope that you haven't been allowing your perusals to take away from your time doing
chores.'

Aelrena says 'The library itself is a wonderful resource in your studies, and I would
suggest that you utilize it closely.'

You say 'Indeed, Aelrana Sedai, I have assisted in the reshelving of many books. I think
the librarian at the desk there may even remember my name now.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'Then that is a step in the right direction.'

Aelrena says 'Now, I would give you a task, if you believe that you'll have the time to
handle it.'

You say 'I believe I do, the sink is empty and Tolza Sedai has given me leave from
assisting her with a duty she was to perform.'

Aelrena steeples her fingers as she leans forward, her head cocked slightly to the side.

Aelrena considers the girl for a moment, before seemingly nodding to nothing.

Aelrena says 'Find something to study within the library, something which piques your
interest, but is appropriate for your level within the Tower. I will not ask you to write
a report, merely that you be prepared to speak with me about it.'

You nod in agreement.

You say 'Yes, Aelrena Sedai.'

Yve thinks for a moment.

You say 'When would you like me to be prepared by?'

Aelrena says 'You may pick from a wide array of topics, but be aware that your choice
will reflect upon you as much as the depth of your knowledge of it next we speak.'

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

You nod in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Somewhere between the next hour and the next seven days, perhaps?'

Aelrena grins evilly.

You nod in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Next I see you, I will be following up.'

You say 'of course, Aelrena Sedai.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

You say 'Thankyou, Aelrena Sedai.'

Aelrena says 'Good. Now, was there anything else that you wished to speak about, child?'

You say 'I don't think so.'

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Aelrena nods in agreement.

You say 'Maybe when we speak I'll have more questions, but I'm learning so many things
it's hard to know what to ask or indeed whether to ask anything at all.'

Aelrena says 'Then you are free to go. Please ensure that Laras sends up a plate of food.'

Aelrena gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

You say 'Thankyou, Aelrena Sedai'

Aelrena nods at you.

You curtsey before her.
