Re: Lightside Needs Help
At first I was exclusively just playing ds so I could remort. Now I don't care about that as much and am going to try and master a ls Hunter after mastering Rig.
Last few days on ls when I've been on its just been a mess with ls. One of the differences between ds and ls is the lack of disipline that ls has. Sometimes I swear they have to be hand held through pk. Just my imo. And I'm not a good pker at any means, I attacked my own party yesterday on ds during pk cz I forgot to switch my targets snicker. #newb
But there is definitely a lot more of a tight knit group on ds than ls like Loomis said. I think some of the newbies on there see us dung talking each other and think we are all just being assholes all the time and they prolly don't get that we are joking 70% of the time! So I can see how it's probably pretty intimidating to start playing ds.
Also, another point Loomis brought up is how we all help each other out and smob for the fallen ect. There are some ls that do that and you guys are awesome. I notice that most ls that are up north pking do not do that however.
I could go on about my opinions and whatnot but eh. I see us all bring up great points and PoV's to look at and nothing changes.
Imms: You guys are awesome and I really appreciate what you do for all of us players. <3

Re: mob raids... every time I do them it's a b*tch fest. People feel it interferes with their normal gameplay, want really over the top loads and if I simply load nice gear it's "worthless". Then there's usually someone who runs off with the loot, which gets worse if it's loot from someone who mobripped. Or people getting warranted all over the place. Oh, did I mention mobrips? Endless complaints.
No, mobraids generally are not well received and only lead to drama and thus aren't fun to run. Just because people say "whee thanks" in public doesn't mean those same people aren't constantly criticizing everything on prays and/or tells to mobs.
Re: player run mob raids, that would be tricky given the edge they could give with a fade quest. Ditto for porting DS south or to Blodfest or whatever (something I've seen raised a few times). Plus you know it would mostly be (ab)used to obliterate an already outnumbered enemy and there's no real way to prevent that.
Also, pines evolved from an idea like this, where I had anything from ants to lizards loading randomly in a zone. I had it trial run with Eagles in 2010 or 2011 or so. Problem was: sometimes they would randomly bunch up and be unkillable except by a full group, which usually wasn't at hand. Then the mobs stuck around and would sit there the whole boot. Newbies would run into the mobs and die. Sometimes a crit runner would run into them and die. At least as an imm I can invest some time and purge stray mobs, mobol isn't really all that well equipped for that. If anyone remembers the impact those maniacal patrols Caemlyn Road had... Or Dougan randomly aggroing and fireballing you as you run past... Something like that.

Some very quick thoughts:
1. Prerolled stats: I've made a handful of 17 12 10 17 17 hunters, mostly for storage, but I've found they're pretty fun. It's nice knowing you can spend just a few minutes and get something that is perfectly playable (even clannable). Even with the many useful changes to statting over the years, it can still be a turnoff, so we should be steering true newbies to these prerolled chars.
2. Smobbing: I miss the days of hearing "Smobbers meet Skywalk". It's a great way especially for newer players to meet and interact with people, achieve something tangible (explore, kill big bad guy, get cool gear), and relieve the tedium of exping. It was also one of the things I loved most about playing over on Seanchan back when we had the continent.
3. The Wiki: I try to work on this every day, since I feel that resources like that can be helpful to both new and old players. The in-game help files have been brought up here, and while we can't do much about that, we can at least make the Wiki better, so I'd like to encourage people to help in whatever ways they can.

Re: Lightside Needs Help
One of the things that does seem to come up is the problem of a)finding eq b)smobbing for eq and it being widely distributed despite being regionally located.
How about you open up a 'donate' function like DS has from TKD to Keep, where every major city (Amador, TV, FD, Mara... BE?) has a DONATE room that moves stuff to a room in Caemy (junkyard?). So in FD you could set up the mobol 2n of rent in olddoor, any eq on the floor there gets mobol moved to caemy junkyard when someone says 'donate'
That way at least there's a centralised resource for equipment.
Other ideas:
More coaches - A coach direct from caemy to FD, and direct to EF (not necessarily back again).
Make Caemy a hub again - use these coaches as the spur to make caemy a hub. More saplings east of caemy. The new junkyard idea. A couple of new low level smobs that actually load not too badly (think SK/Filthy ish). Oh and make those smobs NOT be in doors.
Oh also - How about noting the WotWiki in the 'time' message? "Discover more of the world at WotWiki.org" or whatever it is?

Re: Lightside Needs Help
I really liked when WB was made into a CTF for DS, created some fun pk in Andor - except for the wandering sedai/warder/massive trolloc patrols - can't remember if that was around the same time as each other.
Not being an elite smobber on LS, but having smobbed a bit these past couple days, I want to raise the point of eq load. On DS re-eq is super easy, as you can hit 3-4 smobs in a 30-40 minutes and have 2 full abs sets with some decent weapons. Loads on human smobs aren't as good and are more spread out, so you'd need to spend a couple hours getting the same eq as you could in 1/3 of the time on DS. I think basics should be optainable easily, and then trinkets can be the more difficult part.
Also people need to PK more - its what keeps the game alive.
I think more bonuses and perks would be a good thing, doesn't have to be PK bonuses. Oh also, maybe up qp awards to 3 5 7 again? With the current playerbase, getting 1k qps is kind of a pain.

Re: Lightside Needs Help
I didn't read every post honestly. But I skimmed most. This would probably better fit in the bring in old blood post but this works too.
I think everyone made quite a few good points. Statting. Centralization of the game again. More imm involvement, thank you by the way, Elysia, for taking the time to post and speak from your pov. I really believe that too is important, communication between imms and players and you've always been great about that.
At the heart of it all, I think the biggest issue is the players themselves. Most of you are so whiny and entitled that its disgusting. I'll list a few examples of why we fail to keep new players and why we fail to stay active on lightside.
I'm in complete agreement about statting. It's much too difficult to achieve nice stats. But what are nice stats? The quickest way to piss me off when i'm playing is to see a group of players tell a new player that his 16 19 18 rogue isn't playable and to restat. Or his 17 18 18 hunter and so forth. The new prerolled stats are fantastic. Such a great idea. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 17 17 17 hunter. Especially one that can be gained just by typing a command in. That's absolutely viable with the game. Sure it will take time to learn, but that's part of the game. Stop telling statters their stats suck with a biased pov. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't viable.
That said I do think its ridiculous that Ls has to stat 10,000 times in order to gain what ss can do in far less time.
Honestly I can't really add anything else to what's already been said. We do need more centralization. We need the pk in Andor again. So I'll just leave it at that. But most of that is player controlled.
In my honest opinion, and many of you will disagree, but I don't really care, the game, and lightside in particular, started to seriously dwindle and die when the rpers left. There was a time when rp shaming was crazy active. I was part of it. I was an idiot and immature. When they were here however, the game boomed. Because..
People do not search for a Wheel of Time game to log on and kill other players. They search for a Wheel of Time game to immerse themselves in the WoT world. I read the books as a young man and wanted to find that world and explore it for myself. WoTmud was what I found. I truly believe that if we do not promote rp, because honestly that's kind of the only reason people even play muds anymore, then we will die. I also believe that those of us who are still around are the last generation. Meaning if we don't promote the game in such a way to add diversity we'll never gain new players.
Sadly the best example I can use is the Winged Guard. We are as far away from anything on the map as you can get. dung smob loads. There's really nothing around to do. Yet we are consistently the largest and most active clan on the game. The reason for this is our diverse little world that we've created for ourselves. We promote rp -and- pk. I want you to get into character. I want you to own that and feel like you're important and your decisions will affect the clan and state of Mayene. I'll even go out of my way to speak to another clan and tell them to provoke you to get you more involved in Mayener politics to make things more fun for you. Which then builds within you and your char a sense of purpose and want. It's how we all started, and somewhere along the times we've lost track of that.
"Brah I just want to pk brah! What you don't pk!? Lame brah. Ugh can you believe that lame ass move he just pulled!" Exaggeration but still, what childish and pathetic mentalities. We're all guilty of it. We've all seen it. Stop trying to push your expectations on others and enjoy the damn game. Find that thing you love to do regardless of what it is and enjoy.
As I said it starts and ends with the Players. Imms are volunteers who are there to assist -us- which in turn helps the game. If we as players aren't actively making an effort to make the game and our respective clans better, then we are only failing ourselves. We can whine and complain about imms and how things aren't as we like them, and honestly there have been some short comings, imms won't disagree. But in general we are also at fault and I think most players fail to see this. Every time I log Santino I'm thinking, what can I, as a leader of a clan, do to make things more interesting and fun. What do you do when you log on? You can argue that, "This is a game I play to have fun, not to do more work!"
You think Imms don't feel the same? But there's Elysia, or even Elodin, plugging away at something. Making up monthly changes in order to keep things interesting (Elysia). Running a -massive- clan quest for no other reason than they want to (Elodin). While we sit back and very fine person, gender being but a construct of society. Seriously, take a step back, clan leaders, and ask yourself, what the hell did you do today to make things fun for your clan and side.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, before we even begin to think about massive changes that we may or may not be able to do. We need to fix how we think of, and how we play the game and side. It has to start with that or its pointless to even begin to revamp things.
Feel free to read only what was in bold.

Re: Lightside Needs Help
I know this is probably blasphemy, but you (imms) really did go overboard with expanding the mud. I know you dont like to hear it, but it's true. Seanchan became another place where people can hide and type stat/eq in the prompt. We have tons of places that rarely see any players. Maybe it really is time to trim some of the fat from big ol' wotmud just like you did with seandar. DS works well with reeq because you dont have to run around for hours to find mobs. Its tight and reasonably close. LS takes much longer. Simple as that.
I spend most of my time on a trolloc warrior. Easy into pk and easy out when rl calls. Close the distances and people wont feel like they have a second job finding pk and killing mobs.
Also, most of us play all sides anyway so I highly disagree with the notion that LS is a douchebag magnet. It's just a whole lot easier to firetruck people over and run away. Anonymity sucks!
