EXPLAINED: Item sold to blacksmith is not for sale!

And also, I think he should probably give more than sixteen gcs...

The Courtyard
The view here is amazing. To the east and slightly south east lie the twin
keeps which tower above everything. From here the vastness of the destuction
of the entire castle can be seen in its entirety. The roofs of both keeps
have collapsed in on themselves totally destroying the upper levels of both
keeps. Also most of the walls that used to provide excellent protection
against attack have nearly crumbled to nothing. A putrid smell of decay can
be sensed coming from the west, and a well lies to the south. The courtyard
extends in all directions from here.

o S HP:Beaten MV:Haggard > The Blacksmith's Workshop
In the center of the room there is a large anvil which was obviously used
by the blacksmith who worked here to pound at iron and form various
types of iron works. In the northern wall lies the pit where the metal
was fired to get it white hot. Against the west wall there are the remnants
of a shelf that was once used to hold the blacksmiths various tools. In the
righthand corner of the roof there is a large hole that allows the sun to
shine in and light the entire place. An exit lies to the south which
goes back into the courtyard.

Condolences. Ouch.

It would be nice if anything that was sold to a store was then for sale from the store. I suspect an Imm may share a reason with us why this is not the case. If the issue is one of space - perhaps the inventory of stores (ie. the junk items they start with) could be decreased?

Because that's the way it's coded, so it's not a bug.

No idea why sometimes an item is sold by a shop afterwards, and sometimes it isn't. I haven't discovered a rhyme or reason to it and I don't expect it will be changed any time soon.

In this case: sounds like a good way to remove items from the game!

Full inventory so he can't actually hold it after something is sold to him? Just a guess.

Another player dissed by an unforgiving, unexplainable, unfixable system. The guy had a heron. If it was a pk rip,a DT, hitting his own clan head mob, that'd be one thing. Most of those have the heron stay in game (minus incinerate, DT, and drowning). I

tems sold to a shopkeeper should be repurchasable however expensive.

Saying 'oh well' to the guy for mistakenly selling the wrong sword and not able to regain isn't a great story to pass on to new comers.

I mean, sure. This happened. He also used the specific 'sell sword' and checked his inventory immediately before doing so. You can just as easily type 'value sword' to find out if it is a solid thing to sell.

I guess I am sort of curious how much gold you got for it. If you got 16 crowns for it, I can see the argument there that maybe it was an oversight and a heron should be worth more than 16 crowns.

Agreed, value on heron should be higher than any shop owner has gcs to purchase it. That is the bug if anything.

Figured it out! If a shop deals in "medium blades" and it buys a medium blade, it will then sell it. My educated suspicion is that if it had been a heron long, it would've have been for sale after. Unfortunately I don't think there's a way for players to see what a shop deals in.

Shops can't be flagged to deal in -all- varieties of items, so it's always a choice, which is also influenced by what it should be able to mend. E.g. armor, shields etc. So, still not a bug.

As for its price, my guess is that it's still the price that was set around 1998 or whenever this item was made. As a warning, it's not the only high end item that has a far lower price than one would expect. Item pricing/balance is not something we routinely look at either and even if we did, every time we tinkered with weapons it was expressly forbidden to even think about adjusting rares, so it wouldn't have been picked up on either. It is what it is.
