Right now, in most clans, there is a mix of players who are more pk oriented, who are more smob oriented and some who are more rp oriented. Most players participate in those activities in varying degrees, so if there's no pk, they might end up smobbing instead. Those who spend time smobbing put gear in the chest for those who are more pk oriented and aren't self sufficient, making them an integral part to a clan and the game.
What you are proposing could upset that balance, because smobbing for reeqing would be less of a necessity. That could lead to smobbers being regarded as second rate players even moreso than they are currently. You may find no value in the time spent re-eqing, but there are players who smob so that they can contribute in some way and they find value in that.

Re: An OOC proposition
I think maybe what I said was misunderstood. Smobbing is FUN. RE-eq is also FUN. I even craft my own weapon sometimes because it's FUN to pk with that and one of the most fun things to do on this game is to go down the Circle and re-eq from scratch without taking anyone's help/clan chest etc. I don't mean there isn't value in the different things we do on the mud.
I meant that mid-pk with limited time, it takes so long to re-eq sometimes and THAT is a waste when someone just wants to keep pking. I'm saying let's update this to a fast-paced modern game and remove pointless speed breakers! And we can't change col time because of coding, but we can change re-eq time through broad collective action.
Razhak - Jaster in his art of war class also says this - that players don't mind losing their gear, it's the shame of Losing. If I get vultured while abs/club or I get vultured with heron/combo it's going to feel shitty regardless because the other player basically wasted my time overall. I know everybody is different, but I don't think anyone 'suicides' as such the way you're thinking it. Some people may play more risky in more common sets - and that is great because it adds another element to pk.
I don't think the sudden possibility of quick re-eq changes the enjoyment in pk or takes away risk factor. I mean look at what happens when someone loots you in pk - you can basically jump back into play for as much time as you have. If the opposing side loots you - does it add any more 'fun' to the game? Are you enjoying re-eqing or twiddling your thumbs in the city or basically more likely to quit out etc since you can't keep playing?

Re: An OOC proposition
Ease of basic re-eq has been in a good place for quite a few years. I generally agree with the OP statement, but like Bivia said, it's easy to lose track in group pk. The whole notion of losing eq makes things "more intense" is a load of 2005 hogwash though. The fact that people still believe that is probably why so many people pk like complete pansies.
If you don't need the eq or run over someone, it will ALWAYS be appreciated if dropped, even if just basics/weapons. If you want to be the big bad bringer of doom and take basic abs or some noob's equipment to pit that disappears at boot, cool... I guess.

Re: An OOC proposition
Returns are often a nice way to reward good pvp, but there should never be expectation upon players to return earned equipment from pk kills.
You arent entitled to any of that equipment upon death and should be thankful if someone decides to return any at all.

Re: An OOC proposition
The only difference between the PvP on this game and the other 10010101010 trashy MMORPGs is that when you die here, it means something. Which is why we all (most of us) play.
Though I have died every day for the last 3 days so maybe I should advocate for this more

Re: An OOC proposition
1) You are a top-tier player, second only to Jestin in the post-Lykan era - your experience cannot be used as a baseline. Mine however, is absolutely average
[And note: the OP is about regular eq, and not the kind top-tiers are EVER interested in - unless you are super sad about losing lissome boots and shining plates and holding on to that is what feeds your desire to win on the game, even if that kind of reasoning were correct for Anyone - which it is not in the age of heralds]
2) I'd be VERY surprised to hear that you SMOBBED for a full set even once in the past 10 years - unlike most players on this game.
(Note: what are these trashy games btw? Maybe it'll be more my speed if I can re-eq quickly and get the pk fix!)

Re: An OOC proposition
Now the question I have is, is it 'nicer/better' to not return gear to the people who say no in this thread so as to not make their overall experience worse?
