Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Catch 22 though. Good luck getting an inactive clan to vote on changing their Clanning procedure to be more automated so that all this can happen and the clan becomes active :p
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
I doubt it would make a difference, anyway. It's not easy clanning that brings activity, it's a group of players able to log on at the same time and occasionally or frequently doing things together. Dragonsworn is a prime example of that.
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
It's way harder to declan someone for being a bad clanmate than it is to no-vote someone for being a bad applicant.
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Only because this has been the standard for so long. It "should" have been the opposite right? You barely get to know someone before they clan and get to see how people really are after a longer period of time.Benito wrote:It's way harder to declan someone for being a bad clanmate than it is to no-vote someone for being a bad applicant.
As for the bad apples... doesn't some kind of chronic behavior that results in these types of described situations fall under house guest rule and becomes a staff responsibility instead of forcing the player base to essentially do that job?
Automation isn't about increasing membership, it is setting a standardized procedure so discrimination doesn't happen.
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Well discrimination would still happen if you propose automated clanning, with the actual "clan vote" happening at rank 2-3?
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Hopefully not, at that point the "applicant" has proven they want to be a member by completing all of the automated portions, they have spent time as a clan member representing the clan. If they act poorly through the process then they get declanned at rank 1 or 2 and if they want to try again they can start over from the beginning. Griefers get their name removed from eligibility like how the criers keep track of who did their quests.
This way at least you give the "applicant" the opportunity and the clan the ability to judge on merit of in-character actions instead of barring someone from even trying.

Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
A fair point. But at the same time, ranking time and ranking quests were removed below rank 6, weren’t they? So someone just gets like 7 scalps and power ranks to rank 3 and bypasses the whole system.Kerryk wrote:Hopefully not, at that point the "applicant" has proven they want to be a member by completing all of the automated portions, they have spent time as a clan member representing the clan. Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
That would have to be adjusted for this type of system. The idea I have for Companions is an automated quest series for clanning rank 1 where you learn about the region and clan and swear oath to King Mattin. To gain rank 2 you would have to do 10 automated quests, each one quest point and based on learning the Nine Laws of Illian. To gain rank 3 you need Council/clan vote and essentially go from there like normal.

Not all kinds of bad apples are of the houseguest violation type.Kerryk wrote:As for the bad apples... doesn't some kind of chronic behavior that results in these types of described situations fall under house guest rule and becomes a staff responsibility instead of forcing the player base to essentially do that job?
Re: Can we as players generally make clanning easier?
Personally don't see much difference in having the usual apprentice/applicant system compared to your clanning straight away then having a vote at rank 2-3. If its an inactive clan, whoever will still be stuck at rank 2-3 waiting for a clan vote to happen, not being able to work on the QPs grind, since qps can only come from the automated quests. If its an active clan and the people in there don't like the player for whatever reason, ic or otherwise, the player will most likely still be no voted. So I'm not seeing how the automated quests/clanning will do away with "old boiz clubs". But I think every clan is free to make up their own clanning procedure, so you could try it out and maybe it'll work better than the current system that is generally employed by most clans. I know Defenders and I think Valon Guard, maybe Dragonsworn as well?, have their clanning procedure somewhat like that or used to anyway.
