RP Question

Hello All,

In the past few weeks, I've made a few characters trying to understand the intricacies of this fine game. After listening to chat and reading the forums and wiki, I have settled on a character.

My question is; Does the Homeland choice define your character's background, or can it just be the birthplace, and you can actually develop a life elsewhere before leveling?

I chose Illian for a female channeler and it is not really where I would like to start my character's history. Is it possible to be raised elsewhere without having to use some 'cookie-cut' parents died/murdered/eaten and escaped/taken/sold elsewhere?

You are free to define yourself however you choose. Your homeland + class will define your stats. At level 20 you may change your "title" to something of your choosing (thereby removing the homeland information). If you joint a clan your title will likely reflect your rank within the clan, though you may modify this in some clans. If you switch between incognito and not your title may revert to your homeland at which point you may change it again.

And also, there's nothing to say that although you may have been born in, say, Arafel, your family left when you were very young and now you consider yourself Cairhienin. How you RP your background is entirely up to you - in fact, this sort of thing gives you an opportunity to come up with something original and inventive!

I feel like you guys made this insanely complicated. Yes there is rp. But yes this is a game and stats are specific to homelands.

Sure some people do choose homelands for the rp purpose of it but I doubt anyone is gonna be like ‘no no you’re illianer’ make sure you talk with do be do be do be. It’s silly to think that every female channeler ever born in the history of the world was born in illian or Murandy

There are also people who successfully RP as being from the Three Fold Land and other such places that otherwise aren't really homeland choices game-wise.

As was said, it's just going to affect stats is all.

I have a character stated from Two Rivers and have been Rping a Malkieri for most of a decade.

You do you. The best way is once you get lvl 20, just change title, as was stated. Remember when you lose or gain a level it resets automatically. Type save after you change title.

You can also use your description to further define your character. The best way I had it ever explained to me was, describe what you are, don't tell another person what they see.
