What do you wish you'd been told?
The big thread on Players Lounge made me think.
What are the short, easy tips you wish you'd been told at the start? Maybe we could think of some ideas and have a thread or wiki article? Not always for total newbies maybe:
Narrating Scouts - if you want PK, attack the scouts at south gap (for LS) or south side of Blight (for DS) and they will narrate for the entire opposing side to hear.

Everybody should have at least one prac in survival and carry a dagger, so they can butcher deer or other critters in the wilderness if they run out of food.

What ticks are, how they work and how mobtic agro works.

SS can set off Wil in EF to narrate for them, and there is a scout on THR that does the same for LS.
You can get a very basic kit from the lithe/smuggler chiefs if you have nothing stored
The half troll is not a Deathtrap, just make sure to get someone to bring you a rope or carry one with you if you wanna take him down

About statting. What it was for, and that it wasn't by far as annoying as playing a 17 15 17 11 12 channie. By the time I found out, I was already around level 15 and really didn't want to lose that back then. I think people are told more, these days.
I agree with Mantorok, the ways to get a basic kit were totally missing in my early days on the MUD.
About the river boats.
And warrants.

That not all thieves were bad - especially in a city full of ruffians. Typing "prac" before "k thief" in Bandar Eban would have saved me the stress of losing my starter kit, a mobrip or three trying to get it back (I didn't know it held little value), and of course a warrant. Thanks to the Sword and Hand who took pity on me and pardoned it without a quest. I think it was Llewlyn. I never would have survived!

1. Don't wait 7 years to join a clan for the first time.
2. Don't master your trolloc rogue in an abs bash setup

Ogier are never going to be implemented.

(1) "Thirded" on clanning. I waited an eternity to clan Eol and I waited even longer to clan my primary darkside alt. Huge mistake. Its an enormous perk. I told myself I wasn't good enough. I wasn't, but neither were most of the PKers.
(2) Don't restrict yourself to just 1 part of the map. I've been doing a bit of exploring lately and other than 1 DT and one almost DT experience I almost always find myself saying - why didn't I come here sooner.
(3) Concerning darkside - this is sort of a classic rule of mine that I didn't follow very well at first, but found very effective later. It may not apply as much anymore. Historically, an abser trolloc needs to wield a weapon that can bash -anything-. I didn't wield axes back in the day because they were too hard to get. The problem was that back in the day axes were the only thing that could bash dodge so I was just a buffer who couldn't contribute if I ended up on dodge. Dodge has taken a huge downing lately so maybe this doesn't apply anymore, but nothing sucks worse than slowly being whittled down while missing bashes as an abs troll.
(4) The likelihood that an experienced PKer went into a door accidentally is very, very low.
(5) In the end, we keep score in this game by killing each other. Some of us are honorable and some of us are scum. If you don't like another person - either avoid them or kill them. They probably aren't going to change their behavior on behalf of your feelings and the game isn't going to change its coding to give you a leg up no matter how much you post about it.
(6) There's a big spectrum of skill in this game and the addition of that 1 dynamic player can turn in 3 hours of back and forth stalemates into a string of corpses. Be cognizant of your actual skill level - many of us live by virtue of our equipment, lack of a real chaser, fleeing sooner than others, picking an easy battlefield. When that real chaser arrives we're just another body in the pile.
That's enough prattling for now.
