NEWBIE: Youtube Tutorial Guide 2024

Post by Shinobi » Sun Oct 27, 2024 8:39 pm

Hi there,

If you're new to WoTMUD, log in and create a character, type down twice after making the character and nod at Merin.

The text goes fast, so be sure to use the scroll wheel so you can read through the information. When a mob nods at you, they are finished talking. You can say 'help' at any of these characters on the quest line and they will give you more information.

In part 1 I try to describe the process of creating a character at the beginning. Feel free to listen and watch through it if that is useful for seeing the game and hearing it described.

Part 2 continues on the quest sequence, explains some of the words that are in front of you on the page, and tries to clarify what your experience will be.

Part 3 finishes off the quest line at level 11 and you start with a weapon which you can use to continue your journey.

Part 1: Joining the Game and Getting to Prerolled Stats (Levels 1-3) https://youtu.be/JMvmoBcmnIg
Part 2: Heading out to Whitebridge, learning some mechanics, and meeting Mirielle (Levels 4-7) https://youtu.be/TlpN_9wiIC4
Part 3: Meeting Lirien, gaining a better weapon, and heading off to Emond's Field to explore more of the world (7-11) https://youtu.be/Hs4tqumy8IA

This game has a hard learning curve, I would suggest you explore it a bit by yourself to get familiar with the mechanics before you look externally for help on "what do I do?" However, engage with the community more on the interpersonal level to share about yourself and learn about them. You can do this in character with narrates or out-of-character with chat. If someone ends up carrying you through a lot of the learning process, you may find yourself missing a lot of the technical information that becomes relevant when you're immersed in more of the PK and PVE.

Using a client is an important piece to consider, I use WinTin which is free to download. You can also use Mudlet. Adael has done a lot to support Mudlet on WoTMUD and you can see some of his work described here: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=6494. It comes with a map that is fairly accurate and updated. Definitely, if you think that would help you explore, get the map. It has the ability to search for rooms, so when the quests give you exact rooms, you can know exactly where to go.

If you can tolerate figuring out the game on your own, there's a lot of joy to be had here. I've made a PK Guide for new players that may be relevant later on in your process of getting familiar with the game. It is here: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=15885

If you have any questions you can visit our Discord at: https://discord.gg/5hhPTVBN

I'm sure plenty of people would jump into the voice channel to answer questions in real-time if you ask them. Often all it takes is a quick conversation to figure out what you want to know and how you want to find out about it. Feel free to post questions here or respond to the video. I'm happy to help!

This is neat. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this! Hopefully some newbies will find a lot of value in this.
