Matters of Gray

Post by Chloro » Sun Dec 11, 2022 12:44 am

New novice Amilesa meets Chloro Sedai and has a lesson on the Gray Ajah and tower safety.

Pov: Chloro
Supporting: Amilesa
Cameo: Annoura

Log session starting at 23:02:12 on Saturday, 10 December 2022.

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: door
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [4]
A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Gray Sister walks here, considering her options.
Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Chloro says 'Annoura summon Amilesa please.'

Annoura Larisen says 'I will send my scribe to summon her, Chloro.'

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Chloro gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Amilesa has arrived from the east.

Amilesa curtseys before you.

Amilesa closes the carveddoor.

Chloro gestures at the doors with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Chloro says 'Welcome to the White Tower novice.'

Amilesa stands before the door silently after greeting the Aes Sedai.

Amilesa says 'Thank you, Chloro Sedai.'

Chloro motions for the novice to have a seat about the round table as she looks her over with cool gray eyes. "I think it is time we meet proper, don't you?"

Amilesa glances about the room, taking in the new sights, as she walks towards the chair.

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. We didn't have much time during my induction with Ashlynn Sedai.'

Amilesa approaches the chair from the left side and plops herself down.

Chloro says 'I am Chloro Sedai of the Gray Ajah, the yellows may have started your journey but all ajahs will be needed if you are to progress. How have you found the tower so far?'

Amilesa says 'In a word, Aes Sedai, it is big. I enjoy exploring and finding new things, but I found I have to prioritize or get aimless.'

Chloro smiles warmly the rest of her face a mask of calm. Gray eyes weighing and measuring the girl as she speaks. "Can you tell me of any safe havens you have found inside the tower should we be attacked?"

Amilesa moves in her chair, changing her center of mass from her left side to her right.

Amilesa says 'The obvious one is to join Coulin Gaidin and the warriors he trains. They are ready and able to lend their formidable strength.'

Amilesa says 'It helps that an adversary can't hide in it.'

Chloro says 'That is true, can you name another?'

Amilesa says 'The even more obvious answer is to get back to the Novice Well, of course.'

Amilesa says 'I don't believe someone can follow us in, even if they tried.'

Chloro looks to the girl nodding then taps the table with a well-manicured hand. "I can think of two on your floor without mentioning the novice quarters. Can you name them as well?"

Amilesa says 'Sheriam Sedai is a great aid to rally to in her study.'

Chloro says 'That is one, what is another?'

Amilesa says 'And the Keeper Lelaine Sedai has all the guards of the AMyrlin herself at her disposal.'

Amilesa says 'Are those the two you had in mind, Aes Sedai/'

Chloro nods and smiles pleased at the answer. "That would be the second I can think of. Even though they are on your floor never hesitate to seek shelter from battle on this floor as well. Many sisters roam the halls, and each Ajah office has a few sisters in it at all times.

Amilesa bobs her head along, her necklaces jingle softly as they meet.

Amilesa drinks water from a leather water flask.

Chloro says 'Now that we have covered where to find shelter. Tell me of your past before here Amilesa. Where do you come from and what was your occupation before landing in the shining walls?'

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. I am from the Two Rivers. My family has a farm out to the west, not too far from the Volcano. Great soil for crops, and wide-open fields for ranching.'

Chloro says 'What where your duties on the farm?'

Amilesa says 'I was often in the village and worked at the inn with some of their accounting, ordering, and the like.'

Amilesa says 'I have a large family, a good number of them boys, so I was not needed as much on the farm. My chores involved husbandry of some of the stock animals and taking care of the younger kids.'

Amilesa says 'Often gathering eggs, mushrooms, and milking the cows.'

Chloro looks to the south, "My White sisters will be happy to hear someone with order has put on the whites. You may want to seek them out in time. Just as ledgers have balances, so do weaves and wards with saidar. They devote their life to maintaining them about Tar Valon."

Amilesa says 'Thank you for the advice, Aes Sedai. I plan to do that. I had a similar thought, since Weaves are made of strands from five elements, how they affected one another and if they are modified in application, how it would affect the result of the weave.'

Chloro chuckles seeing the girl light up as she speaks about saidar. "In time you will learn just that. However, before we can run, we must first learn how to walk. Your training here is hard to face what you must when the time comes to rejoin the world. Whether that be in a shawl or without one."

Chloro says 'What have you learned of the Gray Ajah so far?'

Amilesa says 'From the Novice lesson from Yukiri Sedai I learned that they Gray Ajah influences the relations of the world to affect change in the direction that the White Tower believes will benefit the Light.'

Amilesa says 'I can go into more detail, if you wish. She gave an example of the Compact of the ten nations.'

Chloro arc's an eyebrow as she listens. "Spoken like a politician, I would be careful of that before my sisters take great interest in you." Chuckles as she looks to the scales in the center of the table." We see to hold balance and keep the lands united. While the White tower will fight the last battle so will the rest of the world.

Chloro says 'If the nations do not fight it together all may be lost. Our goal is the bring as many through as possible. It is a sobering fact that not all will survive. However, if all fight some may.'

Amilesa closes her mouth softly and swallows deeply.

Chloro says 'Our battlefield lies among Kings, Queens, Lords, ladies, Merchants, and towns folk. Many Grays serve as royal advisors, Judges, Legal aids, and most importantly we keep tabs on all nations to try and subvert conflict before it begins. The best way to win a war is to prevent one from starting.'

Amilesa says 'I was taught that too, I believe in the Blue Ajah subjects it mentioned how the White Tower influenced their allies to try to quell and upstart Arthur Hawkwing.'

Amilesa taps her foot on the ground lightly but is otherwise still as she answers the Aes Sedai's questions.

Chloro says 'Indeed, however not all attempts to prevent a war are successful. When it is not, we advise our findings to the hall of sitters of the current nations involved so a position for the tower can be made public. No one ajah decides that all, we all do. '

Amilesa looks around the room but tentatively raises her hand anyway.

Amilesa looks around the room but tentatively raises her hand anyway.

Chloro says 'No need to raise your hand child. You may speak freely for this lesson.'

Amilesa sheepishly puts her hand down as she asks her question.

Amilesa says 'You mentioned that members of the Gray Ajah are assigned to the courts of Kings and Queens. And you mention that no Ajah dictates the will of the Tower alone. Then, what autonomy and actions are the Gray Ambassadors given?'

Chloro hides a grin behind her warm smile. "Yes my sisters will have interest in you, indeed. A very good question. Ambassadors may be of any Ajah. The current in Andor is of the Red. Aes Sedai along with being able to channel are founts of knowledge. While we may guide a kingdom, we do more than just impose the will of the tower. Majority of Kings and Queens do not get a common education."

Chloro says 'We act as a sounding board when needed and offer advice from life experience. '

Chloro says 'In turn, we gain insight into the current ruler and the path of the country.'

Amilesa says 'Thank you for clearing that up, Chloro Sedai.'

Chloro says 'You will soon learn child. Your life before the tower is no longer yours. Even if you do not gain the shawl, you will have seen too much to go back to what was. '

Amilesa says 'That was apparent to me as soon as Etain Sedai showed me the Rose Bud exercise. I don't know what it takes to get to the Shawl, but I do know I have a pull to learn more about what I can do with this ability.'

Chloro's eyes grow distant in memory as her flame haired locks sway. "The price for this shawl, is different for each woman, however it takes great sacrifice, determination, and above all knowing yourself."

Chloro says 'For now though, you should return to your studies. We cannot expect you to grow and flourish if we delay them for too long.'

Amilesa's eyes move from Chloro Sedai, to Annoura Sedai, and then the others, a different story woven into every shawl.

Amilesa says 'Of course, Aes Sedai. I have the Brown Ajah subjects to learn next.'

Chloro says 'I will be watching your progress closely. Take that was a boon or a warning. '

Chloro gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Chloro says 'Light Illumine you Child.'

Amilesa takes another swallow as she stands up.

Amilesa says 'Thank you, Aes Sedai.'

Amilesa curtseys before you.

Amilesa leaves east. >>

Chloro gestures at the doors with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Chloro looks to Annoura, "That is one to keep an eye on. I hope she lives up to the potential she presents."
