Fail!
Re: Fail!
So baffling to me. Why can't you just wait a minute or two for your opponent to come back? Then you can have some real pk and somewhat of a challenge. If you don't want to chase or interact with your opponent in any way why not just go kill mobs...
This way you piss someone off, you don't get pk, and you're back to being bored 2 minutes later. Why not wait for them, get pk started, maybe a few friends show up and you start up some real pk where you might get a few more kills and some actual fun gameplay?
Just makes no sense to be at all. Confused as to why we even have to explain these concepts to people...

Re: Fail!
I am not in favor of AFK killing, however, I do not expect people to let me live if I go AFK in a pk zone while I am on a mob. Basically you are exping while reading some wikipedia or doing the dishes.. and expecting to be left alive.
Everytime i go afk outside my personal rooms in TKD, I expect to come back in CoD.
Basically thats what happened here, you alt-tabbed to some other window while mindlessly exping away (my assumption, probably quite close to the mark..) , because you were instantly back at discord complaining about it.

Re: Fail!
I see your point in that both people made a mistake here. Yeri could have avoided going afk and Meren could have chosen not to kill an afk person. But I would liken this to walking around at night in the southside of Chicago. Yeah it's stupid and you're probably going to get mugged. If you get mugged, the person that mugged you is an asshole that broke the law, but if you had used some common sense you wouldn't have been walking there in the first place.
I would suggest we strive to improve on both fronts :)

Re: Fail!
No this is exactly the problem. And jestin you may be the best player on this game but this neutral pitching is messed up when you essentially say both are to blame.
One person committed a crime, the other did not. A lot of people who get assaulted think that maybe it's their fault too - what time it was , where they were etc. And it's a psychological coping thing to try to imagine they had some control in the situation. It's ridiculous because you cannot anticipate and predict everything happens to you. Whereas you can 100% choose to not assault someone.
There is nothing wrong with people walking off to afk - there are a thousand million justified reasons that people cannot imagine. If it's a serious reason then the afk-pkers will say oh then why do you care about the text anyway. Either way somehow it's the afk persons fault because they want to shift responsibility.
The person who rolls the five spikes knows exactly what they are doing and how stupid it is. It's 100% blame on them. Great for razhak that his link never drops and he's not flagged or his cat never jumps on his keyboard or someone doesn't walk in and start chatting with him. But it's BS to argue what he does.

Re: Fail!
Sorry, but comparing AFK killing to assaulting people IRL (and I presume you mean sexuall assault/metoo like behaviour from your comment about victim-guilt syndrome) is going way to far.isabel wrote:No this is exactly the problem. Re: Fail!
Can we take a step back and not overreact? While I'm certainly guilty of jumping on the odd bandwagon convo, this discord-analyzing, name-shaming without all the pieces just leads to bad blood. We make mistakes. I'm sure, somewhere along the line, Meren and Yeri will get over this. Very few players go out of their way to kill afk/ld people. Meren most certainly do not need to kill people THAT way to earn qps or an abs set.
This is not comparable to sexual assault. Yeri does not need treatment for PTSD. He's a very accomplished player on a text based game. It's not a crime to kill someone afk. It happens. Ask anyone. Yes, anyone. Well maybe Amberyn never did it, but still.isabel wrote:No this is exactly the problem. This is a perfect solution. Jestin encourages taking the high road. Let's do that, and try to laugh instead of cultivating petty resentment.Jestin wrote:I would suggest we strive to improve on both fronts :)

I know I shouldn't stick my nose in, but I'm just curious -- do you mean that a physical assault is not a useful analagy for analyzing this situation or do you mean that comparing someone to a mugger is offensive and should not be done?
I think Isabel was more trying to examine the issue from that perspective (regarding agency, etc.) than to morally equate any of you with a rapist haha. Though maybe I'm putting words in her mouth
------
I also wanna add that there are a number of players here who have health issues they don't like to talk about that can necessitate urgent AFKing

Re: Fail!
Seems to me it was more a reply to Jestin's analogy of the mugging being blamed on both parties. And just saying that AFK killing is just a shitty thing that doesn't really do anything constructive for the mud or the atmosphere, basically what Jestin was saying anyway.Enok wrote:Can we take a step back and not overreact? Re: Fail!
Well firstly I was talking about assault (which mugging is an instance of), and not sexual assault, but even if I had been talking about sexual assault is there a reason that mugging is okay to use as a comparison/analogy but the argument becomes invalid if this is used as an example?
Secondly, this is the pattern:
X does something wrong / stupid / bad that negatively affects Y [And Jestin clearly thinks that afk killing falls in this category]
Y could have done an infinite number of alternative actions to avoid said situation
BS logic: X shouldn't have done it ideally, but let's also focus on all the things Y could have done differently.
I'm all for taking the high road, but I don't think we should confuse, dilute, and muddle exactly what happened there, which is that only one player did something shitty and only that player is responsible for it.

Re: Fail!
Thing is, this is a non-restricted PKilling mud.
Any mercy is depending on the goodwill of the person(s) involved.
And no, before the Jestin's and Kryyg's go post again, not even I go around AFK killing anything and everyone, but this naming and shaming by people who get AFK killed, is getting over the top. Perhaps Discord is to blame, because it makes communication to easy? I dont know.
Bottom line is, AFK killing, as unfair it might be if it happens to you, is not prohibited, and its not a -crime-
Does it suck if it happens to either of us? YES
Does it merit extensive naming and shaming, PTSD treatments, drowning a litter of kittens in a bag and/or ragequitting? NO
