What do you wish you'd been told?

Spamming "where" with notice on lets you see hiding stabbers in your zone on %. If only I had learnt that in the heyday of sameside pk and not several years after.

Help others. Dont play just by yourself. By connecting to others, even the newest to the oldest player there is always something to help someone with.
Dont be afraid to take chances. From a raid to TKD to leaving a puppy inside keep. Dare to try new things with others.
Have fun and just connect with imms, clans, people.
*This* can eat you face. Or eat your body parts...

As far as PK and PKers go, you should generally get in the habit of ignoring reputation and form your own opinions fairly early. There's a calculation for what you can and can't do against someone that gets completely fucked up when you give someone too little or (as in most cases) far too much credit. The quicker you can get over the fact that you're fighting someone who is supposed to be good, the quicker you can assess gaps in their game and figure out the best ways to kill them. It was more useful when the MUD was more populous and a substantial amount of mediocre PKers lived off of reputation.
