Flurries of Another Kind
Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Balancing the cup of teas she purchased for the others at the meeting point, Arelis continues to make her way onto Merchant Square. She suddenly stops as she remembers she needs to pick up Raamon from stables. Raamon was her trusty Razor horse who has been through many battles and adventures at her side. As Arelis was about to make a turn towards the Stables, a group of kids came running after Rufferto the dog who has been hanging around the square recently. Suddenly, one of the kids comes rushing by Arelis knocking all of the drinks into the air.
*Arelis quickly connects to the source and creates a single white thread of air and a purple thread of spirit. She whispers:"Levitation".*
As if time had stopped, all of the drinks were frozen in mid air. Arelis control the threads slowly as this required a lot of concentration being that it was a new "trick weave" Sheriam Sedai had been teaching her on spare time. She manages to bring all of the cup of teas down onto the floor without any spill: "Phheeewww, that was close. It did come in handy. Hard to control still but we are making progress. I'll update Sheriam Sedai next time I meet with her."
Arelis arrives at the Stables, hands her stable ticket and she can see Raamon neighing with excitement. Although, I could tell he was a little upset for leaving him there for over 24 hours: "The spoiled big baby." She saddles him up and equips him with his gear and off she went towards the Square.
Arelis could see the Tower Ladies by the water fountain and turned to that direction. As she arrives, she curtseys Chloro Sedai and greets all the others Accepteds. Arelis says: "Lo' Everyone. Hope the Light shines bright on all of you this morning. Please, pass these cup of hot teas amongst yourselves."
Arelis sits at the edge of the water fountain and sips slowly on her while meditating and analyzing possible outcomes of this journey. Maddy approaches and whispers to Arelis: "Hey Arelis, can you cast the strength weave on me when you have a chance?" Arelis replies with a smile: "But of course Maddy."
*Arelis connects to the source. She moves her hands with strong gestures creating 3 brown threads of Earth. She then proceeds to moving her hands in a flowing smooth motion creating 3 blue threads of Water. Finally, she relaxes her hands movements and creates 2 purple threads of spirit. Arelis gently wraps Maddy enhancing her Strength."
Arelis smiles at Maddy.

Rylea stands nearby to her Aes Sedai, keeping a watchful look around the square, though given where, when and the weather nothing was likely to occur but vigilance must be maintained. Soon she spied one of the stable hands for where she kept her horses, leading two large geldings over to her. One outfitted for fighting, war saddle, barding, and straps to keep one in the saddle, this one would occasionally plunge and dance with a nervous energy. The other, much more placid, was fitted with pack saddle and loaded with quite a lot of gear: tent, blankets, bed rolls, food, water skins, armor repair kit, even a small stool to sit upon were stored within the voluminous packs. She handed a couple crowns to the hand and a murmured word of thanks in getting them ready while taking the reins and holding tight.
She had no idea exactly what Chloro Sedai was up to, but given the number of Accepteds showing up in the square this early, she was sure something major was going to happen. She backed the horses up, out of the way, taking her place behind and to the right of the Gray Sister, still eyeing everyone and place in the square. "Is this everyone, Chloro Sedai or are we waiting on more?"

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
After a long day training and watching over some of the younglings practicing, Artorias returns to his room for the night. As he entered, he noticed a small letter just inside the door. Grabbing it and tossing it on the bedside table he closed the door and lit a few candles. After stripping off his armor, he grabs the letter and sits on the edge of the bed. Flipping it over and back he notices it has a red horse surrounded by a gray circle on it. Frowning slightly, he opens the letter and reads it. A spark of rage and maybe hunger enter his eyes at reading the words. He tucks the letter in his pack and dons his armor once more. Moving with a purpose towards Vianca Sedai's room to explain his leaving.
Shortly after explaining things to Vianca Sedai and Gaidin Finan, he heads to the Stables to retrieve Daghain. Chuckling to himself remembering how his horse came to be known as Fear in the Old Tongue. Patting the warhorse on his head and checking everything is done up tightly he swings into the saddle and turns to the Market Square. "I'll need to stop and get some more supplies before meeting with the others." As he's buying the extra supplies, he notices that almost no one will meet his eyes. That spark of hunger and rage can still be seen unbeknownst to him, causing others to shy away from the scarred, angry Gaidin.
Riding into the Square he notices Chloro Sedai and another Sister he hasn't met yet with a couple Accepted, one of which he knew. Next to Chloro Sedai was her Gaidin Rylea. "I don't think I have ever met Rylea, although I have seen her around the training yard. Seems capable enough" he mutters to himself as he approaches. He nods his head in respect to Rylea and knuckles it towards the two Sisters. Moving over next to Rylea and awaiting his orders.
Looking over he scans the Accepted noticing Maddy trying to pay attention to what the Sedai are talking about. A small smile stretches across his face at seeing her. He has not known her long but has enjoyed a few nights in the Tower Square with her and Accepted Vala. A little Light in the Shadow that was his world. "I'll need to keep a close eye on those two girls" he thinks to himself.

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Fat crystalized water fell slowly as Chloro reached her spot just beyond the opening in the ropes. The first snowfall in the south, it would have been snowing for weeks in the north. Her head turned left then right, it seemed two blues manned the grounds today, an odd choice, normally it was Grays, Whites, and Yellows. Perhaps a sign of the times of having spies seeing the coming and going of those entering the city, Graymen and fades had been increasingly difficult to deal with of late. There was a growing suspicion of a ring of Darkfriends in Tar Valon, just rumors, but even those spread like wildfire.
Laying the reins down on the wagon bench she looked back seeing first Liia, then the others file in, slow and steady. Her face serene calm, but an eyebrow lift nearly ruined it seeing Artorias ride up. She had not been certain he would come; Vianca was young and in need of a few good warders until she seasoned in battle up north. It was one thing to go as Accepted with others quick to aid. It was another to ride out as an Aes Sedai, usually without the safety of others. She had felt Rylea long before the woman rode in, Chloro had been keeping the Gaidin at a distance, not for lack of wanting to grow closer, but to protect the warder. Rylea did not know the full depths of what this Aes Sedai was involved or capable of, and if called before the hall, the Gaidin could claim no knowledge of it, and still have it be the truth. That would have to change soon, most likely in the village. There was no hiding now.
Nodding to Liia Chloro stood in the wagon well and made two quick hand signs to the Blue sisters. Her mind empty as saidar surround her with a light glow, a nimbus flashed into existence around her two sisters as flows of earth began to snake towards Chloro, Saidar flowed from the two sisters towards Chloro as weaves of earth began to from, flows of earth pulling from the cobble stones, the buildings near by and even the foundation rock of the island. Chloro wove, a bead sweat appearing as she managed 12 flows of spirit and 21 flows of earth weaving a gateway for which 10 men could ride through abreast.
She took a deep breath slowly lowering herself onto the wagon bench holding the weave in place a thin line slowly dilated showing a landscape of barren snow laden tress with a small village, perhaps 50 in population appeared nearly a quarter mile from the gate. Branches moved like they were under water as the wind howled. Unmasking the bond slightly she nodded allowing the Gaidin to go first, then the others before walking the wagon through the gate still maintaining it.
Snow crunched beneath the wagon as she moved it 10 feet from the glowing gateway then stopped laying down the reins. Standing she spun looking towards the gate behind the wagon. Slowly each of the blue sisters withdrew their link, the strength of the weave faltering, it was near the limit of what Chloro could hold alone, but not sustain. More sweat trickled down her brow as she carefully allowed the weave to release flow by flow to close the gateway without it collapsing. Her right hand reached down to catch herself on the back of the wagon seat, exhausted from handling so much earth, it was not her strongest element.
Gently she lowered herself onto the benching allowing a moment for recovery while her traveling party surveyed the area. Wood smoke filled her nostrils, Dingsta was close and at least warm, on this windy winter day. Chloro allowed Rylea to feel the extent of her exhaustion through the bond, slowly she would take down the barricade between them, she did not know how long ago Wynoa released the bond, or the limits to what her Gaidin could handle.

Giving Arelis a warm smile, Maddy deftly wove the elements required to give her friend added strength. Nodding in satisfaction, she discreetly gestured, spinning 2 threads of spirit, armoring herself before turning her attention back to the Aes Sedai. Watching them carefully she noted an undercurrent of seriousness, even as they discussed trivialities. A quiet reminder that with Aes Sedai there was often more to their actions than met the eye.
Glancing up, Maddy’s eyes crinkled with delight, her lips curving into a bright smile, as she spotted her new friend, Gaidin Artorias, Vianca Sedai’s new Warder. As he moved to the square, a reciprocal smile lit his face as their eyes met. He had been amusing the Novices and Accepted for the past few nights at the square and had garnered quite the following.
Her smile deepened as she watched Gaidin Rylea ride up, her every move exuding the quiet intensity of a lioness on the prowl. Without a word she guided her horse to settle protectively beside Chloro Sedai. She was a steady, calm influence and Maddy always felt safe when she was near.
Maddy observed a small gesture from Chloro Sedai, then two Blue Sisters in the vicinity started casting Saidar towards her. Maddy blinked as she made out threads of Earth and Spirit coming from everywhere, in amounts she had never witnessed before. All eyes were now on Chloro Sedai as she wove, her face serene as always, masking her intense concentration. Maddys lips pressed into a firm line, her brow furrowed, as she tried to commit the weaves to memory. Her breath caught as the air vibrated and hummed, then an immense gateway sprang into existence. She had been through gateways before, but never one so vast and daunting as this.
She darted a glance at Chloro Sedai as she drove the wagon through the portal. Despite her calm demeanor, her brow glistened with sweat. Maddy sat a bit straighter in her saddle, held her chin a bit higher, proud to be aspiring to the same Ajah as this talented woman.
As the portal slowly winked out, Maddy pulled Nabir to a halt, her eyes scanning the stark, snowy expanse before her. Beneath her, Nabir shifted uneasily, muscles tense, betraying his lingering anxiety with the passage through the gateway. She mused, ‘He will need to get used to gateways and all the wonders the use of Saidar will bring-sooner than later.’
She leaned down patting his neck firmly, her touch and soft voice calming him. Nabir’s ears flicked in acknowledgement as his tension began to ebb. Shivering, she pulled her cloak tighter, then gave a gentle tug on the reins guiding him to take her place at the back of the group.

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Liia sat perched in her saddle atop of Swift, not far from Chloro as she waited patiently, curious to see the gateway her combined sisters would be weaving to take them north. Masked in an Aes Sedai calm she gave no hint at how warm it was, a brown fur wrapped about her shoulders. It was not exceptionally cold here in Tar Valon, but it would be where they were headed, and she wanted to be prepared. There was no reason why an Aes Sedai could not travel in a little comfort.
It was then that a slash of light - the precursor to a gateway - split the air ahead of Chloro and between the two Blue Sisters that were positioned on the gating grounds. The light dilated into a gateway and expanded. If she was not masked in her usual Aes Sedai calm, her eyes might have widened slightly in surprise. The portal that now opened in front of the band was exceptionally large - enough that The mounted Sedai, Accepted, Gaidin, and loaded wagon could easily pass through safely. Even by Liia's own standards, it was much larger than what she could weave with help - although she had focused on precision and other factors. She looked around the square with a hopeful glance, 'Accepted Amarea would have appreciated this', she thought to herself. 'I haven't seen one with such affinity to earth as hers in many years.'
At Chloro's nod that the everything was ready, Liia spurred her mount forward, embracing the source to be prepared for anything, the world around her coming into clarity that only holding the source provided. The Gaidin were on alert as always, eyes scanning the surroundings for any possible danger as they passed through into the snowy landscape. Liia felt the blast of cold air as soon as she crosse the threshold, glad for the fur she was wearing. As she scanned the surrounding snowy woodland, she wove a quick weave of Earth, Air, and Spirit, verifying her assumptions. Based on her mental map she was fairly certain of their exact location. Releasing the source, she looked back to see Chloro pass through the gateway and turn to release the weave that she held, slumping forward slightly. That must have taken a lot out of her.
Turning forward again, Liia set her sights on the small village ahead. Wood smoke wafted toward them in the chill wind. Perhaps a nice warm fire would feel nice once they arrived at their destination. Liia smiled to herself at the thought as they moved forward.

Looking at the huge portal, Arelis whispers to herself: "So this is the combined power of the Aes Sedais....Magnificent!!!"
Arelis notices the two Blue Aes Sedais, mesmerized at their poised and elegance: "Such a beautiful shawl."
Arelis hops on the saddle and steers Raamon through the gateway with ease as Raamon is well adept to battles and big commotions. Nothing really phases this stallion. Arelis starts to see their landing spot as she gets closer and through the portal: "Ahhh, I know the area. Maradon is to the Westish, Fal Dara to the Eastish and the deadly Stronghold of the Hoard is to the Northish. From this moment out, I must be on my wheres."
Arelis scans the area looking for anything that stands out but everything seems in order. She then scans her group and notices Artorias flanking the rear of the group as to protect the Accepted in the back. Arelis whispers to herself: "He is probably just trying to get closer to the young Accepteds in the back to flirt with them. I know his kind. I've seen practicing with Master Coulin before and how they catcall the girls that get too close. Men....Savages!!"
Arelis flanks the other side of the group in order to maximize the protection of those at the rear but not without leaving herself a clear line of sight to make sure the Gaidin is behaving toward her peers. *mutters*
*Arelis quickly weaves a white thread of Air and a red thread of Fire to create a lightball above her. She then proceeds to weave two purple threads of Spirit around herself, feeling protected.*

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Rylea guided her horse toward the wagon leading the pack horse, waiting for the portal to form, eyes still scanning the area. She feels the bond a bit more clearly and feeling the strain Chloro Sedai was under. She kicked her warhorse, no name as they never lived that long in the ceaseless fights, into motion. Steeling herself, cringing at the thought of going across who knows how far in a single step, she’s not sure she’ll ever get used to this.
Once on the other side, she moved to the side a little, waiting for the wagon, while looking all around. Once it crossed, she tied the reins of the pack horse to a hook on the wagon, and nodding to Artorias, started scouting for any sign of danger. Given the weather, this was far north and it could be either scofflaws or shadowspawn. Circling about, scanning ground and likely ambush spots for anything out of the ordinary. Rolling her shoulder while riding, reaching up to loosen the big blade across her back from its scabbard, just in case.
Then more from the bond, a wave of exhaustion, she snapped her head around towards the wagon, gauging the amount as best she could. Signaling to Artorias that she was heading towards the wagon and the group of Aes Sedai and Accepted, so he’d know she wasn’t scouting now. Making her way to the other side of the wagon, near the bench seat. Quietly murmuring to Chloro, knowing how prickly Aes Sedai can get: “Everything alright?”

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Artorias was lost in his own thoughts when the Gateway was opened in front of them. "How long has it been since i've been back to any of the villages? I am constantly going into the Blight with Vianca Sedai, but that's from Fal Dara and The Gap usually." He watched as Rylea went through the gate and started scouting the area. He took one last glance towards The Tower and where he could feel Vianca. Then he turned around and followed the others through the gate and checked around the other side. "It always amazes me that most of them never check the other side of the gate."
Seeing nothing out of the ordinary and spotting Rylea signaling him she was heading towards the wagon, he took up the rear of the group. He noticed Arelis eyeing him with a slight bit of scorn and chuckled to himself. He took a deep long breath and paid more attention to his surroundings. This close to the Stronghold he couldn't afford to let his mind wander. The others all seemed to be taking stock of the village ahead. He on the other hand, was trying to gauge how far from the tree line the village walls were. How best to get in and out of there if needed quickly. It looked almost the same as his village did all those years ago.
Shaking his head, he stopped that line of thought. "Now is not the time or place. I've already made the Shadow pay for what happened there" he said as he absent mindedly rubbed one of the scars on his arm. The rage and hunger was back in his eyes after that line of thought. I need to focus on the now. Make sure the Sedai and Accepted are ok. I wasn't told to be prepared to fight as soon as we got here. "I wonder why I was invited at all really now that I think about it." Chloro Sedai must know more about his past then he thought most did. Tho to be fair he can't actually recall what all he's told others since coming to The Tower. One big blur of fighting Shadow and almost dying, being healed by members of The Tower and then joining the Gaidin to repay that debt. "Blast it, i'm in my thoughts again." He shook his head one last time and started paying more attention to the forest around them as they approached the village.

One big blur of fighting Shadow and almost dying, being healed by members of The Tower and then joining the Gaidin to repay that debt. "Blast it, i'm in my thoughts again." He shook his head one last time and started paying more attention to the forest around them as they approached the village.

Re: Flurries of Another Kind
Chloro pulled a small kerchief from her left sleeve and patted the sweat off her brow, she had taken on more of that gateway than she should have. Everyone always thought the more of the power you could weave the stronger you must be. Leading circles and linking was a fear she had to face and let pass through her every time it happened, she took more in an effort to not over strain her sisters or worse, lead to them burning out. Strength in Saidar came with a price, and everyone watched to see how soon you would falter. She often wondered if Siuan felt this type of weight while sitting on the Amyrlin seat, the weight of the Tower watching for your first weakness. It was not Chloro’s place to ask, perhaps the answer would be more than she had asked for.
The chill of winter made her shiver for only a moment as her internal thoughts caused the mind trick to faulter. Stilling her mind she thought about a point, one inch in from her belly button and the sensation of cold faded in moments. Her ears perked hearing Rylea. She nodded to the woman.
“I did not know what type of situation we were to face; a smaller gateway could have led to ambush; I will recover by the morning. Take point towards the village, the area is a little to quiet.”
Chloro scanned the tree line around them as if waiting for a Trolloc or worse to leap out. It had been a long time since she set foot this far north in Kandor, but she remembered the raids of her youth, entire farmsteads gone in a night, sometimes half a village. Chloro looked at the others and made two hand signals, one to brush the hair back from their faces and the other to remove any hoods. It was against the law in the borderlands to have a hood up, fades could pass for humans that way.
Having rested for fifteen minutes she nodded to Rylea and picked up the reins. A soft click of her tongue and slap from the reins got the horse moving and the cartwheels rumbling through the snow, she could just make out a lantern in the distance coming towards them from the village.
Lifting her voice soft but loud enough for her party to hear she spoke, “The customs of the north will be different than what you are used to. Here respect and honor are paramount. Remember, this village requested aid, we are here to help, not to be pompous or overbearing.”
The cart and her party rumbled forward coming close to the village as the figure she saw earlier came into clear view. A feeling of slight sarcasm flowed through the bond towards her Gaidin. She knew this woman all to well, perhaps Liia would remember her to. The Accepted were too young, but one never forgot a face when they had them as a student.
