Theq Awakens. ---&RPaward

Post by Aldwyn » Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:04 pm

*From old clan forums, Theq posting some of his character arc story*

Theq groaned as light streamed in through the windows. Doing his best to ignore the invading sun rolled over, pulling the blankets above his head and groaned, 'Go away...'. The serving girl turned to face the Theq-shaped lump on the bed, 'It's time to get up, Sir. You've been there for three days now and the Wisdom says you should move about a bit.' Groaning again, Theq turned to face the girl and looked her up and down, 'My head hurts and the Wisdom isn't paying for the room. So I'm going back to sleep.' Theq rolled back over, pulling the blankets up again, only to have them roughly shaken off him. The serving girl rolled them into a ball and placed them into a basket. 'That Wisdom is much scarier than you are, Sir. And you're making the room smell. It's time you got up.' Turning abruptly, the girl left the room. Theq closed his eyes and groaned again, muttering, 'Damn women...'

Theq slowly sat himself up and looked around the room. In truth, his head wasn't too bad - he really just didn't want to deal with anything right now. Theq's gaze fell on the bedside table where a note was placed delicately. Sighing, Theq picked the note up a turned it over in his hands before opening it to read it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theq,

I will stay as long as I am needed. I will see you when you awake.

R.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theq turned the note over in his hands again before lifting it to take in the sent. Smiling, Theq thought to himself, 'She always has the nicest scents.' Glancing around the room again, Theq noticed the cloak bearing the symbol of the hawk. Theq stood up and made his way across the room and picked it up. Theq fingered the material carefully - it truly was a fine material. 'Such a strange turn of events', Theq said aloud to no one in particular, 'Something isn't right.' Pursing his lips, Theq made a decision. He threw the cloak over his shoulders and adjusted it. Nodding to himself, Theq left the room where he'd spent the last few days. He intended to get to the bottom of this. And he knew exactly where to begin.

**A followup post to Theq's character arc**

In the Soaring Hawk Inn, Theq dreamed. The dreams were a blur, difficult to make out anything useful. Flashes of light, strange faces and an image of a hawk invaded Theq's thoughts. Tossing in bed, Theq's dreams turned to two women. The first a woman with straight brown hair and emerald eyes. The second, a woman with dark brown hair that almost cascaded around her and eyes the colour of rosewood.

The faces of the women sharpened in focus. Both of the women he knew by name...

Theq sat up in bed, his head pounding. He rubbed his face, wincing at the touch. A welt the size of a small fist had formed on his forehead. Lying back down, Theq stared at the ceiling. He was confused about everything. He'd woken up in Mayene, allegedly, several years in the future.

Theq couldn't explain it. But he knew that he had a choice to make. A choice with only two possibilities. A choice between the first girl, or the second...

Point of view: Crenna
Main character: Crenna
Main character: Raquel
Major participant: Aldwyn

Widsom Racquel Blames Crenna (Jan. 5, 2016)
-+-+-
Reception of the Soaring Hawk Inn
A long hallway leads into dozens of tidy rooms that are constantly cleaned.
A large desk lays against one side of the room, behind which the innkeeper
rents out his rooms to customers. A large fireplace is built into the southern
wall, and warms the room.

A ledger lies on a small stand.
[ obvious exits: D ]
A gleeman is here, wearing a cloak of different colored patches.
The innkeeper bustles about, helping guests into rooms.

Racquel has arrived from below.

Racquel glares at the innkeeper.

Racquel says 'And?'

Crenna looks at Racquel.
A young woman with long, straight, brown hair and emerald eyes is here.
She absently plays with a small silver chain around her neck.

Racquel glares around the room.

Racquel rests her gaze on Crenna.

Racquel says 'Can I help you?'

Crenna says 'I'm Crenna Balvari, and you are?'

Racquel purses her lips.

Racquel steps close to you.

Racquel says '-You're- Crenna.'

Racquel smirks.

Racquel says 'Well, isn't this a surprise?'

Crenna stammers, ' If you require assistance, I'd be happy to offer it.'

Racquel tilts her head.

Crenna looks a bit confused.

Racquel says 'You're not how I imagined you.'

Racquel frowns.

Crenna says 'Do I know you?'

Racquel says flatly, 'No.'

Crenna says 'I see. '

Racquel says 'But I know you.'

Crenna peers closely at her, trying to figure her out.

Racquel says 'You...'

Racquel stops.

Crenna says 'Not very well, or you'd know I was on Duty and am expected at the North Gate.'

Racquel purses her lips again, considering carefully.

Racquel says 'I know you well enough, my dear.'

Crenna says 'Did my parents send you?'

Racquel says 'I know you well enough to know exactly who you are.'

Racquel frowns.

Crenna says 'Certainly the can wait until I head to Cairhien to meet with them.'

Crenna says 'The Feast of Lights is only in a few days.'

Racquel blinks her eyes innocently.

Crenna says 'Certainly, they haven't decided to force me to marry some Lord?'
Racquel says 'No. I know nothing of your parents.'

Racquel says 'I'm here to see Theq.'

Crenna says 'He's...'

Crenna says 'He's not himself.'

Racquel glances towards the closed room.

Racquel murmurs, 'That's more a relative term...'

Racquel turns her attention back to you.

Racquel says flatly, 'He asks for you.'

Racquel narrows her eyes at Crenna.

Racquel says 'Why does he do that?'

Crenna 's eyes widen with realization.

Crenna says 'You're the wisdom?'

Racquel tilts her head, questioningly.

Crenna sighs.

Racquel says flatly, 'I'm -a- Wisdom.'

Crenna says 'Well. '

Crenna says 'I have no idea why Theq asks for me. He.. hates me. Or used to.'

Racquel frowns.

Crenna says 'But... '

Racquel says 'I never knew that man to hate anyone.'

Crenna says 'Since...'

Crenna says 'Well since his personality changing and him losing his memories... '

Racquel glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Racquel says 'And whose fault is it that that happened?'

Racquel says 'Hrmm?'

Crenna says 'Lord Du Lis, Lord Cuebiyar a'Ayende, and I tried different things to see if we could...shock him back.'

Racquel stares at you accusingly.

Crenna says 'Aldwyn... kissed him for instance.'

Crenna says 'And then I did.'

Crenna says 'I think... '

Crenna looks a bit ill.

Crenna says 'Excuse me.'

Crenna gets a water skin from a backpack.

Crenna drinks the water.
Crenna drinks the water.
Crenna doesn't feel thirsty any more.
Crenna puts a water skin in a backpack.

Racquel turns a shade of red.

Racquel says 'You did wh...'

Crenna grimaces as if a bad taste in her mouth.

Racquel stops.

Racquel says 'I see.'

Crenna says 'Well he was known to like whores.'

Crenna says 'And... the Lords...'

Crenna says 'They thought if I kissed him..it might.. '

Crenna grimaces.

Racquel arches an eyebrow.

Crenna says 'It didn't work..but he seems...to have taken a liking to me.'

Racquel steps forward, close to you.

Racquel leans in.

Crenna stands her ground.

Racquel says 'I might advice you to keep your lips to yourself.'

Crenna says 'I. Didn't. Want. To. Kiss. Him.'

Crenna says 'I did it as a Winged Guard, bound by my oath the the Lady First, to do what I can to help my family.'

Racquel steps back.

Crenna says 'I pretty much despise him.'

Crenna says 'But duty is duty.'

Racquel says 'And if you hadn't let him get injured in the first place, none of this would have happened.'

Racquel glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Crenna says 'Excuse me?'

Racquel steps forward again angrily.

Crenna says 'You obviously have no idea what happened.'

Racquel points at Crenna.

Racquel says 'I blame -you-'

Crenna says 'He insulted my friend Joryn to the point of Joryn hitting him.'

Racquel turns on her heel, pacing the room.

Crenna says 'That is nonsense. I wasn't the only one there.'

Racquel says 'Joryn. Oh yes, I heard about Joryn.'

Racquel continues on, ignoring any protests.

Crenna says 'Joryn was so upset he left Mayene, and I doubt he will ever return.'

Racquel says 'A silly farm boy from gosh-knows-where.'

Crenna says 'I think this conversation is over.'

-+-

The Northern Gate of Mayene
The massive north gate is heavily guarded. Tall iron portcullises protect
the city from attack, and small murder holes above the gate are barely
visible. A small alley leads off to the west, and looks to lead to seedier
parts of town. Tall towers dominate the view of the city to the south. The
stone road here is worn smooth.
[ obvious exits: N S ]
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
Lord Aldwyn Cuebiyar a'Ayende is standing here.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.

Crenna seethes with anger.

Crenna gets a lantern from a backpack.
Crenna holds a lantern above her head.

Crenna says 'That... wisdom...'

Crenna says 'She is aweful.'

Racquel has arrived from the south.

Crenna glares icily at Racquel.

Racquel glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Racquel says 'And another thing.'

Crenna says 'Have you decided you're done insulting my friend?'

Aldwyn frowns.

Racquel stops in front of Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'What's going on?'

Crenna says 'And mistakenly blaming me for something I didn't cause?'

Racquel says 'I haven't finished insulting -you- yet.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn says 'Wait a moment, someone explain what just happened.'

Crenna says 'Very well. Why don't you insult Lord Aldwyn then. He kissed Theq as well.'

Aldwyn looks back and forth between the two of you.

Racquel ignores Aldwyn, continuing on.

Racquel says 'This is all -your- fault.'

Racquel says '-You- did this to him.'

Crenna says 'I've met women like you. So quick to blame other women. It wreaks of insecurity. WISDOM.'

Aldwyn says 'Now wait a moment...'

Racquel glares around her.

Aldwyn turns towards Racquel.

Racquel stops and turns to Aldwyn.

Racquel says 'What?'

Aldwyn says 'Just what now are you blaming Crenna for?'

Racquel rolls her eyes...sheesh!..

Racquel says 'Why? What -else- has she done?'

Racquel starts talking faster.

Aldwyn glowers at Racquel, "I am grateful for your help, Wisdom, but do not come into my city and start questioning the behavior of my guards."

Racquel says 'Hasn't she done enough?'

Crenna says 'I haven't done anything.'

Racquel says 'If it wasn't for her, none of this would have happened.'

Crenna says 'I don't know what you are even talking about?'

Aldwyn says 'None of what? Has something happened to Theq?'

Racquel says 'Theq-would-be-okay-and-and-and...'

Racquel stops.

Crenna says 'Why would anyone SANE blame ME for Theq getting drunk and insulting my friend.'

Racquel turns away.

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn says 'Crenna, calm down a bit. There's parts of this situation you don't know yet.'

Crenna says 'Now, you are obviously angry, but you have not said what I've done, or provided any proof of my wrong doing.'

Aldwyn says 'Racquel...'

Aldwyn says 'I know you're hurting over Theq. I know you two were...close.'

Racquel folds her arms across her chest.

Racquel says quietly, 'I can't help him.'

Racquel says quietly, 'I don't want to help him.'

Crenna 's eyes widen.

Racquel glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Aldwyn says 'But what happened was nobody's fault but Theq's.'

Racquel says 'The only thing I want him to forget, is -her-'

Aldwyn says 'There is nothing between them, Wisdom.'

Crenna looks disgusted.

Racquel turns to face Aldwyn, wiping her reddened eyes.

Racquel says 'Have you seen him?'

Racquel says '-She's- all he speaks of.'

Aldwyn says 'I have not since you helped him. You told me to let Crenna spend time with him and so that was the orders I gave.'

Crenna starts to talk, then her mouth shuts with a click.

Racquel pauses.

Aldwyn says 'You've said as much, but I assure you that is something new to us as well as you.'

Aldwyn says 'Theq...and Crenna...have fairly despised each other since they met.'

Crenna nods emphatically, the beginning of compassion in her eyes.

Racquel purses her lips.

Racquel says 'Well, something changed.'

Aldwyn says 'It was only since his injury that he's even spoken of her other than insulting her.'

Racquel glowers at Crenna, 'She probably planned it. Somehow.'

Crenna says 'He insulted my friend and my friend left Mayene hitting him in the head first.'

Crenna says 'Maybe... he snapped.'

Aldwyn moves forward towards Racquel, arms spread out.

Crenna says 'Maybe as it was my friend... and since my friend is no longer here, maybe he feels the need to pay atonement to me. I really don't know. But I did not do this.'

Racquel turns away again.

Racquel sighs loudly.

Aldwyn says 'Wisdom, you know that that's not possible.'

Racquel says 'You don't understand. None of you understand.'

Aldwyn says 'How could somebody plan a head injury?'

Crenna says 'Can't you just... make an herbal mixture or something? Can you find a way to know I am telling the truth?'

Aldwyn says 'That doesn't make sense, does it?'

Racquel turns to face Crenna, 'No.'

Crenna sighs.

Crenna kneels.

Aldwyn says 'Has he seen you yet, Racquel?'

Crenna says 'By the light and my salvation and hope of rebirth, in no way did I knowingly plan this or hurt Theq.'

Aldwyn says 'Or have you hidden away from him?'

Racquel says 'Not properly. I've tried to see him, but he's been too dazed.'

Racquel says 'He's improving, I think.'

Racquel says 'But your innkeeper has grown a spine and won't let me in anymore.'

Racquel frowns.

Aldwyn says 'When this first happened you said that perhaps seeing you would help him...'

Crenna says 'To not believe my oath..you would have to think I was a darkfriend.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn says 'What reasoning does he give?'

Crenna stands and sighs.

Racquel shrugs helplessly.

Racquel says 'Says it's his inn and I have no authority there.'

Aldwyn walks to Crenna and places a hand on her shoulder in comfort.

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'Would she believe you if you were to tell her about us? '

Crenna gives Aldwyn a pleading look.

Racquel stands up straighter, moves to Crenna and stands in front of her.

Aldwyn says 'Racquel...as I told you in the inn. Crenna does not have an interest in Theq.'

Racquel visibly regains her composure before saying, 'You think that his personality has changed.'

Racquel continues, 'It hasn't.'

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Racquel says 'The man you see now is the man he used to be.'

Racquel says 'The man before he rescued me.'

Aldwyn says 'It's not the man we know though'

Racquel says 'The man who loved me. Who I hoped still might love me.'

Crenna says 'Yes, he thinks it's years in the past and wouldn't believe me even when I showed him a list of dates people were warranted.'

Garett has arrived from the north, riding a |1|.bloodstock stallion.

Garett gasps in astonishment.

Aldwyn nods for Garett to be careful as he comes closer.

Racquel says 'Theq was a good, noble and caring man. He changed to protect me. To keep me safe.'

Racquel says 'I'd hoped that maybe...'

Racquel trails off.

Aldwyn says 'You should see him, Wisdom.'

Racquel says 'Anyway, it seems that even if he has changed, some things are different.'

Racquel glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Aldwyn looks at Racquel.

Aldwyn looks at Crenna.

Racquel frowns.

Racquel says 'I should leave. There's nothing for me here.'

Aldwyn says 'I don't believe that, Wisdom.'

Aldwyn says 'I think you're afraid of facing what is for you here though.'

Aldwyn moves towards Racquel and reaches a hand onto her shoulder, "Old memories can be quite painful."

Racquel looks at the hand before wiping a tear from her eye.

Racquel says 'I must go...'

Aldwyn says 'And facing the present consequences of them can be very frightening.'

Racquel leaves south.

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn turns toward Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'Are you ok?'

Garett says 'Wow.. quick exit there..'

Crenna says 'I will be fine. You should go to her?'

Aldwyn says 'She needs time to think through her own demons.'

Garett nods in agreement.

Crenna sighs.

Crenna says 'I...'

Aldwyn moves to Crenna and hugs her.

Crenna says 'I didn't handle that well.'

Aldwyn says 'It was not a rational situation.'

Aldwyn says 'Racquel told us that first night of their history.'

Garett stops riding a bloodstock stallion.

Aldwyn says 'She was here to see him before she learned of the injury.'

Crenna frowns.

Crenna says 'Why did she insist it was my fault though?'

Aldwyn says 'She lost track of him back then, and now it's as if she's missing the same time that Theq is.'

Crenna sighs.

Aldwyn says 'And in treating him, he keeps talking of you.'

Crenna says 'Well I can put him straight the next time I see him that my heart belongs to another.'

Aldwyn says 'That would be hard for any woman, I would imagine.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'I think we need those two to see each other.'

Aldwyn says 'Both clearly have unresolved feelings.'

Crenna says 'But.. she has been seeing him taking care of him?'

Aldwyn says 'She has, but apparently only when he is not lucid.'

Crenna says 'Oh.'

Aldwyn says 'So he hasn't seen her.'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn says 'And the whole time her pain being reinforced by hearing him call to you.'

Crenna says 'I...'

Crenna says 'I should have realized sooner.'

Aldwyn says 'You didn't know'

Crenna says 'Felt compassion sooner than I did for her.'

Aldwyn says 'How could you have?'

Aldwyn says 'If anyone is to blame it's me, as when we spoke the next morning I was too concerned about...'

Crenna says 'Well I meant... I did realize she was irrational...and acting jealous.'

Aldwyn looks down, letting the sentence trail off.

Crenna says 'I walked away when it seemed she was incapable of hearing me.'

Crenna looks at Aldwyn.

Theq has arrived from the south.

Crenna says 'What?'

Something is still wrong with Theq (Jan. 5, 2016)
-+-+-+-
Crenna looks at Theq.

Theq puts his hands on his knees, panting heavily.

Theq stands up straight.

Theq looks around.

Crenna stands a step behind Aldwyn and asks cautiously, 'Are you alright, Theq?'

Theq puffs, 'I. Am. Now.'

Theq wipes his brow.

Theq says 'But... I... Uh...'

Crenna watches Theq and doesn't look convinced.

Theq looks around cautiously.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'I think I'm in trouble.'

Aldwyn says 'How so?'

Theq points west.

Aldwyn gives a concerned look to Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'You went to Tear?'

An Elite Winged Guard frowns.
An Elite Winged Guard says 'That's for the Tairen's greedy eyes upon Mayene!'

Theq says 'I found a trading caravan headed towards Tear. So I hitched a ride...'

Crenna looks at Theq.

Theq stops.

Theq says 'Might have.'

Aldwyn shakes his head.

Aldwyn says 'I tried to warn you.'

Theq frowns.

Crenna nods.

Theq says 'I walked right up to the gate and they tried to attack me. Wouldn't listen to anything.'

Theq gestures to his sword.

Theq says 'I... Uh...'

Theq turns red.

Theq says 'I think one of their guards died.'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn comforts Theq.

Theq says 'Or maybe two.'

Crenna 's features change as if during an internal struggle.

Theq says 'I...'

Aldwyn says 'I'm telling you, you're a Winged Guard. You're a wanted man in Tear.'

Theq stammers, 'But I didn't mean to.'

Theq sits down on the edge of the fountain.

Crenna says 'You would have died if you didn't defend yourself.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Theq looks at Crenna.

Theq says 'I might not have. They might have listened. They might...'

Theq trails off.

Crenna looks tense, her hand on her battleaxe.

Crenna sighs.

Theq looks up.

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'If I ask him how he feels... or so many other things he may misunderstand my concern.'

Theq says 'I think I need to find somewhere else to stay.'

Crenna says 'Than the inn? Or do you mean a different city?'

Theq says 'People here will talk... They...'

Theq says 'There is a woman. She can't know what I've done. She...'

Theq trails off again.

Aldwyn says 'What woman, Theq?'

Theq says 'I suppose it doesn't matter anymore.'

Theq sighs loudly.

Theq says 'A beautiful woman.'

Theq glances at Crenna.

Theq says 'She also has brown hair.'

Theq says 'But... Nevermind.'

Crenna says 'Theq, I can't begin to imagine what you are thinking, but it's considered...normal...by those who knew you here for you to attack guards in Tear.'

Crenna looks at a loss for words.

Theq frowns.

Crenna turns to Aldwyn.

Theq says 'And... and... I kill them?'

Theq looks at his sword.

Aldwyn says 'We all do when we have to.'

Aldwyn says 'Theq...'

Crenna thinks.

Aldwyn says 'I think we know the woman you speak of.'

Theq tilts his head, 'Yes'?

Theq says 'But... You couldn't...'

Theq says 'She...'

Theq looks around.

Aldwyn says 'She has emerald eyes, right?'

Theq says 'I sent her away, I...'

Theq nods slowly.

Aldwyn nods with a sigh.

Crenna lets out a sigh.

Theq says 'Is she here?'

Aldwyn says 'She's here in the city yes.'

Aldwyn says 'She's been tending your injury'

Theq stands up.

Theq says 'Where?'

Theq says 'I don't want to see her.'

Theq says 'She lied to me.'

Theq glares around him.

Crenna continues to remain silent, watching Theq as if he were a viper.

Aldwyn says 'Lied?'

Theq says 'She gave me some herbal drink.'

Theq glares around him.

Aldwyn sits down near where Theq was sitting, motioning with a hand for him to do the same.

Theq says 'Told me it would help my head.'

Theq says 'All it did was make me dream.'

Theq sits down.

Aldwyn says 'Dream?'

Theq says 'I dreamt I was doing things...'

Aldwyn says 'What sort of dreams?'

Theq says quietly, 'Killing people...'

Aldwyn silences himself to listen.

Theq looks up at the both of you.

Theq says 'Both of you were there to.'

Theq says 'And...'

Crenna looks on with compassion.

Theq tries to remember.

Theq says 'Another fellow...'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'San... Sanitary... Sani-sausage...'

Theq shakes his head.

Aldwyn says 'Santino?'

Theq nods in agreement.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Theq says 'That's the one.'

Theq says 'You were all there.'

Theq says 'And there was a man. In a swamp somewhere. He lived with wolves.'

Theq looks at his sword again.

Theq says 'We were killing him.'

Crenna looks confused, but remains quiet.

Theq looks angry, 'What horrible person makes someone dream that?!'

Crenna eyes show a glimmer of recognition.

Theq says 'So I sent her away.'

Crenna says 'I believe she was trying to help you, Theq.'

Theq glares around him.

Crenna says 'She seemed to care for you, deeply.'

Santino has arrived from the south.

Aldwyn says 'She remembers you though.'

Aldwyn says 'She said she knows you from before.'

Theq says abruptly, 'She lies.'

Theq nods at Aldwyn.

Aldwyn says 'In Bandar Eban.'

Santino groans loudly as he stretches high.

Santino says 'Gentleman.'

Santino nods at the men.

Santino says 'Crenna'

Santino smiles at Crenna.

Theq says 'I met her once or twice. I was fond of her...'

Theq trails off.

Crenna looks a bit tense and shoots a meaningful look at Theq.

Theq says carefully, 'Was...'

Theq tilts his head.

Santino whispers something to Aldwyn.

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn whispers something to Santino.

Theq says 'Was it yesterday in the tavern that I saw her? It seems longer...'

Santino nods in agreement.

Theq looks at Santino.

Theq says 'Sanitation.'

Theq nods at Santino.

Santino frowns.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Santino says 'So he's finally gotten his memories back.'

Theq says 'Is that not right?'

Santino says 'Glad to hear it.'

Santino claps Theq on the back.

Santino says 'Oh..'

Santino sighs loudly.

Santino says 'Santino.'

The night has begun.

Theq says 'Sanitation.'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'Oh.'

Crenna walks over to whisper in Santino's ear.

Crenna whispers to Santino 'Theq is distraught after killing a guard from Tear. He doesn't have his memories back.'

Aldwyn says 'And there is a man in the swamp, Theq.'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn says 'He does live with wolves and is a danger to everyone that travels near.'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Theq says 'Is he dead?'

Aldwyn says 'We try to kill him but he always seems to get away and come back.'

Santino nods at Crenna.

Theq says 'In this dream. He was dead.'

Theq says 'Luckily, I haven't had any more of that potion since Racquel left.'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Aldwyn frowns.

Theq says 'Horrible dreams.'

Santino frowns.

Santino nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'Racquel...you remember her name?'

Theq says 'Of course.'

Theq tilts his head.

Santino eases back against the city wall and watches quietly.

Crenna watches Theq closely.

Theq says 'Racquel from Bandar Eban. I met her in a tavern a few days ago.'

Theq says 'I think.'

Theq smiles to himself.

Theq says 'Then I met her again upstairs. And again...'

A drunken fool leaves south.

Theq trails off.

Theq says 'Nevermind.'

Aldwyn recognizes the smile and can't help but smile himself.

Santino grins evilly.

Aldwyn says 'So you do know that she was here then?'

Theq says 'I remember all your names too.'

Theq points at Crenna.

Theq says 'Crenna something or other,'

Crenna looks at Theq.

Theq points at Aldwyn.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Crenna nods in agreement.

Theq says 'Sir.'

Theq points at Santino.

Theq says 'Sanitary-pad-Oh.'

Theq says 'wait...'

Theq shakes his head.

Theq says 'Is that right?'

Santino sighs and raises a hand to his face while shaking his head.

Santino says 'Are you sure he doesn't have his memories back?'

Crenna says 'No, but perhaps some of your old humor is returning.'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'How was I funny?'

Theq gives a blank look.

Aldwyn says 'I'm Aldwyn...but yes you did call me Sir most of the time.'

Santino nods slowly.

Santino says 'Lord Aldwyn actually.'

Santino throws Theq a wink.

Santino says 'Just so you know who you're talking to.'

Aldwyn rolls his eyes a bit at Santino's correction.

Theq says 'And yes, I did know Racquel was here. I told you... She fed me this blasted potion and lied to me. So I sent her away.'

Crenna cracks a slight smile, but it doesn't last long.

Theq digs around in his pack, pulling out a bottle of liquid.

Theq says 'Look at this.'

Theq says 'It's -brown-'

Theq says 'And it tastes awful.'

Santino chuckles politely.

Aldwyn says 'May I?'

Theq says 'And all it does it give me nasty dreams.'

Theq shakes the bottle around.

Aldwyn holds out his hand for the bottle.

Crenna says softly, 'Ale is brown and you never seemed to mind that.'

Theq shakes his head at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'It tastes horrible. You wouldn't want it.'

Theq puts the bottle in his pack.

Aldwyn says 'I don't want to drink it, just see if I can tell you what may be in it.'

Crenna coughs loudly.

Theq says 'I've a mind to take it to the Wisdoms.'

Theq says 'Show them what their so-called 'Sister' is up to.'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Theq says 'If she wasn't so pretty, I'd... I'd...'

Theq frowns.

Santino grins evilly.

Crenna says 'Theq, even if you don't remember her, she cares for you. Perhaps you can go easy on her?'

Theq sighs loudly.

Theq says 'You're probably right.'

Theq says 'Maybe she made a mistake.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Maybe I should just throw this bottle out and pretend it didn't happen.'

Aldwyn says 'And it wouldn't be honorable to lash out at a lady that's only trying to help, right?'

Theq walks over to the fountain.

Theq leans in.

Theq says 'Perhaps I could tip it in here...'

Aldwyn says 'I don't think you should do that, Theq.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Theq frowns at the water.

Theq says 'No. I shouldn't. Other people might drink this water.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Is there a sewer?'

Crenna says 'Theq, why don't you let Lord Aldwyn hang onto that for you?'

Theq says 'Why ever for?'

Aldwyn says 'I think you should drink it, Theq. It would be rude to dump out a gift from a beautiful lady, would it not?'

Theq says 'I did drink it.'

Aldwyn says 'Even if it tastes awful.'

Theq lifts a finger.

Santino grins evilly.

Theq says 'It tasted awful.'

Santino nods in agreement.

Theq lifts a second finger.

Theq says 'It gave me nightmares.'

Santino looks at Theq's raised fingers and smiles.

Aldwyn says 'Those weren't nightmares, friend.'

Aldwyn says 'They were memories.'

Santino whispers something to Aldwyn.

Crenna nods in agreement.

Aldwyn nods at Santino.

Theq says 'Then... Maybe...'

Theq says softly, 'Then maybe I don't want them...'

Crenna says 'Theq, even if you had those memories back, you would still remember how you are just now. '

Aldwyn says 'But to deny them is to deny who you are. How can you figure out who you are if you don't know what you've done these last years?'

Crenna says 'And once knowing, you can choose different if you want.'

Aldwyn says 'Yes.'

Theq takes the bottle out and looks at it.

Aldwyn says 'Some of it involved killing.'

Aldwyn says 'And that's unfortunate.'

Theq says 'How do I even know what you're saying is true?'

Aldwyn says 'But there was so much more, that you still have yet to remember.'

Aldwyn says 'Are you a light-faring man, Theq?'

Crenna says 'Theq. Can I see your scars?'

Crenna says 'I mean seriously.'

Theq says 'Of course, Sir.'

Theq frowns.

Theq tilts his head.

Crenna says 'I would be you have scars you don't remember getting, that are fresher than could be possible based on what you think you remember.'

Theq walks over to Crenna.

Crenna says 'Perhaps this would convince you we speak the truth.'

Santino nods slowly and says, 'Like the one from Joreer's horse. Or the tiger that bit into you when you were chasing Carl.'

Crenna sighs, 'I can't believe I asked for this.'

Theq gives the bottle with the brown liquid to Crenna.

Theq says 'What would you have me do?'

Crenna says 'Yes. Those men are from Tear.'

Aldwyn looks to Crenna, and nods encouragingly.

Theq says 'I'm told...'

Crenna says 'And happened defending us, your family.'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'I'm told you despise me, Crenna.'

Theq says 'I'm told I don't think much of you.'

Theq puts his hand on Crenna's cheek.

Theq says 'I'm not sure remembering why is something I want.'

Crenna says 'Theq, please don't. '

Crenna says 'My heart belongs to another.'

Crenna says 'And even if I was upset with you by your actions one time when you were drunk.'

Crenna says 'I also would rather see you healed than sick.'

Theq removes his hand.

Aldwyn places a hand on Santino's shoulder.

Crenna says 'Please know that even though I was upset with you...I still thought of you as family.'

Theq stares into space for a moment.

Santino nods at Aldwyn and winces slightly.

Crenna says 'Like a brother who got drunk. Like someone who can be forgiven.'

Theq says slowly, 'Then I suppose despising you doesn't matter.'

Crenna says 'Well, the thing is...'

Theq snatches the bottle back and lifts his head back, draining the contents.

Santino frowns.

Theq drops the bottle on the ground and turns away.

Santino says 'Crenna'

Santino shakes his head slowly.

Crenna takes a step back.

Crenna puts some distance between her and Theq, watching him anxiously.

Aldwyn says 'Theq.'

Theq sits down, leaning his back to the fountain.

Theq mumbles, 'I feel dizzy.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn takes the bottle and sniffs at it.

Santino walks over to Theq and squats down beside him.

Santino says 'Need a hand lad?'

Theq shakes his head.

Santino says 'Would you like to go somewhere with chairs?'

Theq tries to stand up.

Santino nods slowly, rising.

Theq wobbles.

Santino catches Theq.

Crenna maintains a safe distance from Theq.

Santino steadies him and then lets him go.

Theq nods at Santino.

Santino nods in agreement.

Theq tries to take a step and stumbles, smacking his head -hard- on the edge of the fountain.

Theq collapses.

Santino stares at the sky and sighs.

Aldwyn says 'Really, Santino. Hitting his head again!'

Aldwyn says 'I thought you had him!'

Santino looks surprised.

Santino says 'Well he's a man...'

Crenna rushes to Theq's side.

Santino says 'If he can't stand up on his own...'

Santino shrugs in frustration.

Crenna checks him for bleeding.

Aldwyn moves to Theq's side, rolling him onto his back slowly.

Aldwyn says 'You ok, Theq?'

Theq groans loudly.

Crenna looks relieved.

Crenna says 'No bleeding at least.'

Crenna says 'This time.'

Theq looks up at Crenna.

Theq whispers, 'Crenna.'

Crenna says 'Theq, are you okay?'

Theq gestures to Crenna.

Crenna says 'Yes?'

Theq whispers, 'Come closer...'

Crenna says 'No, I'm fine here.'

Crenna leans back a bit.

Theq sits up.

Crenna says 'How are you feeling, Theq?'

Theq sniffs sadly.

Theq rubs his head.

Aldwyn whispers something to Santino.

Theq says 'I'm happy if you want to try another kiss to see?'

Santino nods in agreement.

Theq tilts his head.

Theq glances at Aldwyn.

Crenna says 'I'm sorry, but my heart belongs to another.'

Santino says 'You know who we are Theq?'

Theq says 'Or you, m'Lord. But only if you've shaved your legs today. Because honestly, I feel like I'm worth -some- effort.'

Santino grins evilly.

Santino claps Theq on the back.

Aldwyn smirks.

Crenna looks relieved.

Santino glances at Aldwyn and shrugs.

Santino says 'Told you he was just pretending.'

Crenna says 'Theq, you may hate me for this later...'

Aldwyn says 'Sorry, Theq. One time thing, enjoy the memories'

Crenna crushes Theq in a hug.

Theq puts an awkward arm around Crenna, pulling her only a little bit close before releasing her.

Theq stands up slowly.

Crenna stands up.

Theq says 'That was a free one.'

Theq says 'The next time you try, I cut your arm off.'

Santino grins evilly.

Theq nods to himself, he must need reassurance.

Santino says 'There's my boy.'

Santino says 'my sweet sweet boy.'

Santino walks over to Theq and puts both hands on his shoulders.

Theq looks around.

Aldwyn says 'Theq...'

Crenna nods with a slight grin.

Aldwyn says 'There's someone in the city for you.'

Santino looks Theq deep in the eyes.

Theq says 'Where's Racquel?'

Santino nods in agreement.

Randal calls for the gate to be opened.

Randal has arrived from the north, riding a |2|.bloodstock stallion.

Randal blinks his eyes innocently.

Randal bows deeply.

Santino claps Randal on the back.

Aldwyn says 'She went running south into the city.'

Santino says 'Randal Gaidin.'

Crenna salutes Randal.

Theq tilts his head.

Theq says 'South?'

Randal says 'Hi there Lord Tino'

Santino nods at Theq.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Theq says 'But I sent her away...'

Theq says 'I need to find her.'

(Removed some OOC here on forward.)

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'You should.'

Santino releases Theq and walks to Randal, shaking his hand.

Aldwyn says 'She's...in a deal of pain.'

Santino grins at Randal.

Theq grimaces.

Theq says 'I need a horse.'

Randal stops riding a bloodstock stallion.

Santino grins at Randal.

Theq murmurs, 'Whitebridge or Aringill...'

Aldwyn says 'There's one already here for you, from Lord Garett'

Santino says 'Aringill is where she said she was stationed.'

Theq tries to climb onto the horse and wobbles.

Santino steadies Theq.

Theq slides off the horse.

Santino catches Theq before he hits the ground.

Theq sighs loudly.

Aldwyn says 'I think you need to get your strength back first'

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Theq nods at Aldwyn.

Crenna says 'Well perhaps a Guard can deliver a message to her?'

Theq shakes his head at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'I can whip you up something that tastes awful if you'd like? Can't guarantee it would help with the healing any though'

Theq says 'I must go.'

Crenna says 'Worse than you kissing him, Aldwyn?'

Theq says 'A message won't do.'

Crenna winks suggestively.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Crenna nods at Theq, serious once more.

Aldwyn reaches under his cape and pulls a thin vial of yellow fluid.

Aldwyn hands the vial to Theq.

Aldwyn says 'That might be enough.'

Aldwyn says 'At least to get you to the river boats.'

Crenna smiles at Aldwyn.

Theq nods in agreement.

Santino claps Theq on the back.

Santino says 'Welcome back.'

Aldwyn gets a wealth of gold crowns from a small purse.
Aldwyn gives some coins to Theq.

Aldwyn says 'That should cover the fare for a captain to take you up.'

Aldwyn puts some coins in a small purse.

Crenna looks at Aldwyn with admiration.

Aldwyn practically ties Theq to a horse and slaps it to get it going next.

Crenna says 'Well.'

Santino leaves south.

Crenna says 'I think it's about time I head to bed.'

Randal says 'party pooper'

Theq winks suggestively at Crenna.

Aldwyn chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'What?'

Theq says 'Nothing.'

Theq gives an impish grin. How adorable.

Crenna whispers to Theq 'Why did you want me to come closer?'

Crenna peers closely at him, trying to figure him out.

Theq throws back his head and cackles with insane glee!

Theq whispers to you, 'had to try for one last kiss, right? ;)'

Aldwyn says 'I'll expect a full report on the politics and dynamics of Aringill when you return by the way, Squad Leader.'

Crenna says 'That's scandalous Theq!'

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Santino has arrived from the south.

(Removed more OOC)

-+-

Theq says 'heh, i've seen the people you recruit these days. i'd drop them'

Santino says '?!'

Santino says 'You voted yes for the last couple!'

Crenna says 'That was a dig at me.'

Crenna says 'We all know how you--'

Crenna cuts off.

Crenna coughs loudly.

Crenna says 'er...Welcome back to feeling more yourself Theq.'

Theq sniffs sadly.

Theq says 'I liked you better when you were pretty.'

Theq says 'What did you do? Go and roll in the mud after I fell over?'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Crenna winks suggestively at Theq.

Crenna says 'It's nice that our family is whole again.'

Crenna smiles at Aldwyn.

Crenna smiles at Santino.

Crenna says 'Now, if there's nothing else? I will go to sleep.'

Santino stops using a ring of silver.

Santino gives a ring of silver to Aldwyn.

Crenna salutes.

Theq chuckles politely.

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'Thank you for....being you.'

Crenna waves.

Aldwyn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna learns about Theq's origin story

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Dancing Badger
This busy tavern is a large room, with rows of tables and chairs, battered
and beaten from years of constant use and abuse. The smell of stout ale
fills the tavern, and the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years.
All sorts of ruffians and lowlife visit this establishment, and it seems to
have been the site of several recent fights, judging by the bloodstains on
the floor. Illumination is provided by cracked lanterns.

An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
A grand master of the guild ambles by with confidence.

A bartender tells you 'The cook says this is delicious. Enjoy!'
You now have a mug of ale.
A bartender puts some coins in a small purse.

Theq sniffs the ale.

A bartender hustles about the room, getting ready for new business.

Theq swirls the contents of the mug around a bit.

Theq takes the ale and moves into the back of the bar.

Theq sits down at a table.

Theq startles as another patron bumps his table.

You bellow 'Oi! Be more careful, man.'

You bellow 'You nearly spilled my ale!'

Theq glares into his mug.

Crenna has arrived from the west.

Theq sniffs his ale again.

Theq sets it down on the table and stares into space.

Crenna buys a cup.
A bartender puts some coins in a small purse.

Crenna looks at you.

Crenna walks over to you.

Crenna says 'Is this seat taken?'

Theq blinks at you slowly.

Theq nods towards the seat.

Crenna says 'If you'd rather be alone--'

Crenna nods and takes a seat.

Theq says 'You're not on duty today, then.'

Crenna says 'No, but of course if needed I can defend the city.'

Crenna says 'I have all my gear with me.'

Crenna says 'And you?'

Theq says 'I'm not, no.'

Crenna nods, looking in her cup.

Crenna drinks hot, bitter tea from a cup.

Theq eyes his own cup before ignoring it.

Theq says 'What brings you here, Crenna?'

Crenna says 'I wanted a cup of tea and...'

Crenna says 'I didn't want to be rude.'

Crenna says 'If you'd rather be alone with your thoughts though...'

Crenna looks around the room.

Theq says 'Alone. Not alone.'

You shrug.

Theq says 'It's all the same.'

Theq says 'I just thought you would have had planning to do.'

Crenna says 'No, such things certainly won't take up all my time, but more than that, Aldwyn is making many of the plans himself.'

Crenna says 'With how quickly things have changed, I see no rush.'

nod
You nod in agreement.

Theq picks up his mug, staring into it.

Crenna says 'Also, it would be more proper for him to speak to my parents before getting deep into making plans.'

Theq swirls the contents around, taking care not to spill any.

Crenna looks up like she wants to speak but remains silent.

Crenna drinks hot, bitter tea from a cup.

Theq says 'Well, I suppose that would be proper.

Crenna nods.

Theq puts the mug down and stares intently at you for the first time.

Theq says 'You...

Theq purses his lips, hesitating.

Crenna pulls on a piece of her hair a bit nervously.

Theq says 'You remind me of her, you know.

Crenna looks at you.

Crenna nods slowly.

Crenna says softly, 'Were you able to find and talk to her?'

shake
You shake your head.

Theq says 'I'm not sure I want to.

Crenna says 'Surely a letter or one of the other Wisdoms --'

Crenna cuts off.

Theq says 'Perhaps.

Theq says 'But if she doesn't want to be found she won't be.

Theq stares into his ale again.

Crenna says 'She was hurting deeply.'

Crenna says 'That she cares greatly for you, I have no doubt.'

Theq says 'She may have. Once.

Crenna looks at you with a serious expression.

Crenna says 'She still does, Theq.'

Crenna says 'If you had seen how angry she was...with me...'

Crenna grimaces slightly and looks away.

Theq attempts a grin.

Theq says 'I'm not sure how more people aren't angry with you, honestly.

Theq says 'I...

Theq stops.

Crenna says 'I appreciate honesty Theq. '

Theq says 'I just don't have the energy to insult you.

Theq looks away.

Crenna says in a small voice, 'Oh.'

Theq picks up the mug again.

Crenna looks down into her now empty cup.

Theq turns to face you.

Theq says 'I despised you because you remind me of her.

Theq says 'You remind me of who I am.

Crenna looks up meeting your gaze.

Theq says 'But you remind me of who I was.

Theq says 'And I don't know what to do with those memories.

Theq puts the mug down and, this time pushing it away.

Crenna nods slowly.

Crenna says 'Would it help to talk more about it?'

sigh
You sigh.

Theq says 'Talking never really got me anywhere.

Crenna says 'Then perhaps...'

Theq says 'It seems I've been taken off the duty roster for a time. Maybe I should take a leave of absence.

Theq says 'I'm not sure it would be noticed greatly.

Crenna says 'I think you assume incorrectly.'

Crenna says 'I hope you'll stay so that you have your family to support you.'

Crenna frowns.

Crenna says 'Are you angry that...'

Crenna says '... that I... tried to convince you to drink the concoction?'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'No.

Theq says 'I'm angry at myself.

Crenna sighs slightly.

Crenna says 'Theq... I don't know how much you remember...but I spoke the truth about...'

Crenna looks slightly uncomfortable, but continues.

Crenna says '... about how you are family, how we care about you.'

nod
You nod in agreement.

Crenna says 'Even at the expense of you perhaps disliking me again.'

Crenna says with more resolve.

Crenna says 'You have shown your dedication and loyalty and have bled for and would die for the other Winged Guards.'

Theq says 'Not just the other guards.

Theq looks directly at you.

Theq says 'For you as well.

Crenna rubs a cheek, her face with a guilty expression.

Crenna confides, 'I regret that I was unfair in my assessment of you at first.'

Theq sighs, 'It is what it is.'

Theq says 'And perhaps it wasn't unfair.

Theq says 'Perhaps it's still not unfair.

Crenna says 'What do you mean?'

Theq says 'The soldier I am. It's not who I was meant to be.

Crenna says 'You believe in destiny?'

shrug
You shrug.

Crenna looks a bit surprised.

Theq says 'I mean. It's not what I planned.

Crenna says 'Aren't we all the sum of each person who touches our lives and our experiences?'

nod crenna
You nod at her.

Crenna says 'Do you regret all the lives you've saved? '

Theq says 'And when a large sum of that is the person who you both love and hate simultaneously. And another person reminds you so much of that person you...

Theq stops.

Theq says 'Nevermind.

Theq says 'It is what it is.

Crenna looks at you for a moment in silence and then gets up.

Crenna says 'I'm going to get another drink. Did you want anything?'

Theq looks at his own mug at the other end of the table.

shake
You shake your head.

Theq says 'I'm fine.

Crenna nods and walks over to the barkeep.

Crenna buys a cinnamon honeycake.
A bartender puts some coins in a small purse.

Theq leans back in his chair and tilts his head back to stare at the ceiling.

Crenna walks back, placing her cup and a plate on the table.

Crenna takes her seat and then pushes the plate towards you.

Crenna gives you a cinnamon honeycake.

Crenna puts a cup in a backpack.

Theq says 'Have you ever noticed the ceiling in here, Crenna?

Crenna gets a cup from a backpack.

Crenna looks up saying, 'No?'

Theq looks down again.

Theq says 'It's been painted over. You can see it.

Theq says 'It's probably been painted over a few times.

Crenna squints her eyes a bit and then nods.

Theq points at the ceiling.

Theq says 'And there's a hole over there.

Theq says 'That's how I feel.

Theq says 'Patched up and painted over and a hole here and there that still shows the things you want to hide.

Theq says 'It doesn't matter what I do.

Crenna nods slowly, her eyes showing compassion.

Theq says 'I'm too damaged now. And a bit of paint doesn't cut it.

Theq gestures towards the ceiling.

Theq says 'Once, this was new.

Theq says 'But the best you can offer it now, is a new coat of paint. And that'll fade.

Crenna says 'Theq, have you considered you don't need to be repaired?'

Theq tilts his head.

Theq says 'I'm not sure what you mean.

Crenna says 'If I or another Winged Guard were attacked right now, would you kill the attacker to save my or their life?'

nod
You nod in agreement.

Theq says 'Of course.

Crenna says 'Would you... feel guilty for doing so?'

Theq looks directly at you.

Theq says 'I don't feel guilt for protecting those I...

Theq hesitates.

Crenna uncomfortably maintains eye contact.

Theq says 'Those people I care about.

Crenna says 'And you remain devoted to Berelain?'

Crenna says 'I mean, the Lady First.'

Theq continues on, 'Of course I remain devoted to the First. But...'

Theq says 'It's when those same people I care about that won't look at me for what I've done, I...

Theq trails off.

Theq says 'It doesn't matter.

Crenna blinks as her eyes suddenly get watery.

Crenna looks at her cup and slowly takes a sip.

Crenna sighs loudly.

Crenna looks back up.

Crenna says 'Theq, you matter. So this does matter.'

Theq says 'But no amount of talking will change the past.

sigh
You sigh.

Crenna says 'But it might help you decide your future.'

Crenna says 'Can you tell me what you meant?'

Theq says 'Meant about what?

Crenna says softly, 'That people won't look at you for what you've done.'

sigh
You sigh.

Theq says 'You heard about my time in Bandar Eban, yes?

Crenna says 'Yes.'

Theq says 'Well, maybe it's time you heard the whole story.

Crenna swallows.

Theq shifts position in the chair.

Crenna nods.

Theq says 'I'd just left Baerlon, where I grew up. I travelled a week through the mountains into Arad Doman.

Theq says 'I'd stopped in Emond's Field and spent Bel Tine there.

Crenna turns back to watching you.

Theq says 'Anyway.

Theq says 'I reached Bandar Eban and I'd spent the first few days exploring.

Theq says 'My favourite part of the city was the tavern.

Theq stops.

Theq says 'Not for the ale, mind.

Theq says 'Mostly for the company and a bit of dice.

You shrug.

Crenna nods, remaining quiet.

Theq says 'The city is know for its bandits, as I'm sure you know. But I largely avoided them - at least at first.

Theq says 'But one night, I met a woman.

Theq says 'Still a girl, really.

Theq says 'But she was a Wisdom, even then.

Theq says 'I didn't know a lot about her, except that she was running from someone.

Crenna says softly, 'She must have been skilled then to have become one young.'

Crenna falls silent and listens.

nod crenna
You nod at her.

Theq says 'You probably guessed... We...

Theq searches for the words.

Theq says 'We got to know each other.

Crenna nods, no surprise showing on her face.

Theq says 'In any event.

Theq says 'The gist of it, was that Racquel had had more to do with the bandits in Bandar Eban than she probably should have. And certainly more than she'd wanted to.

Theq says 'But it is what it is.

Theq says 'Demecure had taken a particular liking to her.

Crenna frowns in recognition.

Theq says 'So, to keep an eye on her, I associated with them. I found them in the darker, dingier taverns.

Theq says 'I drunk with them, diced with them...

Theq continues on, 'You get the idea.'

Theq says 'I spied on them, to keep Racquel safe.

Crenna says softly, 'Yes.'

Theq says 'Until, I learned that Demecure was planning to take Racquel.

Theq says 'So... I...

Theq says 'Well. You don't need the details.

Theq says 'But I killed him.

Crenna nods.

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'Most of that you probably knew - or at least guessed.

Theq says 'But...

sigh
You sigh.

Theq says 'That's not when I fled the city.

Crenna leans forward, with her head propped up on her hands, watching you intently.

Theq says 'After I killed Demecure, I killed three more of his men.

Theq says 'Then I took control of his assets.

Theq leans forward.

Theq says 'I couldn't let someone else take control and...

Theq trails off and looks away.

Crenna closes her eyes and nods.

Crenna exhales and opens her eyes to watch you again.

Theq says 'To keep her safe, I took control of the outlaws and directed their moves in the city.

Theq says 'Eventually, Racquel tired of me and fled the city. And who can blame her...

frown
What's bothering you?

Crenna's eyes go distant. When her gaze is directed at you once more, her eyes look sad.

Theq says 'But, like all good bandits, they don't stay in power forever.

Theq says 'A young fellow. A fellow who I never really won over from Demecure tried to kill me.

Theq says 'He'd assembled a group of 5 or 6.

Crenna grimaces.

Theq continues on wrapping up the story, 'I got away and here I am.'

shrug
You shrug.

Crenna watches you carefully and then says...

Crenna says 'And then Racquel saw you as you were before you became hardened, out of necessity to protect her.'

nod
You nod in agreement.

Crenna goes to speak and then closes her eyes.

Crenna takes a few breaths, opens her eyes, and looks back up at you.

Crenna makes a decision.

eat cake
You eat the honeycake.

Crenna says gently, 'I have never seen a woman filled with such pain as Racquel at the thought that you... no longer cared for her.'

Theq says 'She has taken her path, and I mine.

Crenna sighs slightly and continues...

Crenna says 'But whether she is worthy of you, is not for me to judge.'

Crenna frowns slightly.

Theq says 'I'm not sure I'm worthy of anyone, any longer.

Crenna inhales sharply, her eyes snapping to look at you.

Crenna says 'Don't say that, Theq!'

Theq looks away.

Theq says 'Not that it matters.

Theq says 'My duty is to the first now.

Crenna says 'What I saw...'

Crenna says 'As is mine.'

Crenna looks down in thought.

Theq tilts his head.

Theq says 'What bothers you?

Crenna says 'I'm not sure how...or even if I should...try to express it.'

frown
What's bothering you?

Theq says 'Well, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Crenna says 'It's just...'

Crenna says 'How you seem to see yourself...and how I see you...are two very different things.'

frown
What's bothering you?

Theq says 'And how do -you- see me, then?

Crenna takes a deep breath, releasing it slowly.

Crenna watches you as she speaks.

Crenna says 'I see how capable you were of such loyalty and devotion...'

Crenna says '... I've seen you as you were and some of the price you paid for love.'

Theq says 'All of it counts for nought now, though.

sigh
You sigh.

Crenna says 'I cannot think of you as a bad person, Theq, or of being unworthy of being in the Winged Guard family, and of you someday finding love again.'

Crenna says '*you being'

Theq stands up abruptly.

Crenna wipes a single tear away.

Theq says 'I should go.

Theq steps forward, looking at the door.

Crenna says 'Of course. I...I'm sorry.'

Theq places his hand on your shoulder.

Crenna says 'I didn't mean...'

Theq says 'Don't be sorry.

Theq gives your shoulder a firm squeeze of affirmation.

Theq leaves west.

Crenna looks around, then back at her mug as tears start to fall.

Crenna whispers, 'Theq... I will help you if I can.'

Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron, the First of Mayene, ponders the situation.

Theq drops to one knee, bowing before Berelain.

Theq looks at the floor.

Theq says 'Lady First.

Theq says 'I...

Theq hesitates.

Theq says 'I seek a leave of absence.

Theq says 'Recent events have rendered me without rostered duty for a period of time.

Theq says 'And why I remain loyal to yourself and to Mayene, I...

Theq pauses again.

Theq says '... I wish to make use of the time for myself. If you allow it.

Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron nods slowly.

Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron says 'Squad Leader Theq. You have given Mayene great service. I grant you this simple request. However, I expect you will return to us.'

nod
You nod in agreement.

Theq stands.

Theq says 'Thankyou, Lady First.

You bow before her.

Theq leaves west.

Market Square
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
Some elaborate figurines spew fresh water into a broad basin here.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
The Mayene town crier stands here, spreading the news.

Crenna has arrived from the south.
Lucie has arrived from the south.

Crenna salutes.

Crenna says 'Thank you for taking me on patrol with you, Lieutenant.'

Lucie nods begrudgingly.

Lucie says 'We both needed it.'

Lucie drinks dark beer from a small keg.

Crenna says 'Good day, Drillmaster.'

Theq rummages around in his pack.

Theq looks up.

Theq snaps to attention and salutes Lucie.

Theq nods at Crenna.

Theq says flatly, 'Hello there.'

Lucie says 'Drillmaster, are things in order here?'

Theq nods at Lucie.

Theq says 'I'm sure they're well in hand, Lieutenant.'

Theq stops using a blue cape featuring a golden hawk in flight.

Lucie nods satisfactorily. 'We suffered a double assault from Dougan.'

Theq puts a blue cape featuring a golden hawk in flight in a belt pack.

Theq nods at Lucie.

Theq says 'I'm glad to see you live to tell the tale.'

Lucie says 'Barely.'

Theq nods knowingly.

Lucie says 'Crenna was also in a bad way.'

Crenna turns around facing you both, listening quietly.

Theq says 'But live, you do.'

Theq frowns.

Crenna nods in agreement.

Theq says 'I'm sure the experience will do her well.'

Lucie catches Theq's frown and asks 'What troubles?

Lucie stops using a crimson helmet with a hawk beak faceguard.

Lucie wipes her face on her sleeve.

A gambler has arrived from the south.

Theq says 'Uh...'

Lucie nods at a gambler.

Theq says 'It's nothing, Lieutenant.'

Lucie throws back her head and cackles with insane glee!

Lucie says 'You sound like me'

Lucie claps Theq on the back.

Theq says 'You have both caught me at a rather busy time, is all.'

Theq frowns at his pack.

Lucie says 'Busy?'

Crenna says 'Are you on duty as well, Drillmaster?'

Theq says 'I fear this pack simply won't be big enough.'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Theq shakes his head at Crenna.

Lucie gets a backpack from a small purse.

Lucie gives a backpack to Theq.

Crenna looks at Theq's pack and frowns.

Lucie says 'Another for you.'

Theq says 'I'm not currently on the duty roster, Crenna.'

Lucie stretches and takes a seat.

Lucie sits down on a bench.

Theq nods at Lucie.

Theq says 'My thanks.'

Crenna says 'I had forgotten, my apology Drillmaster.'

Theq says 'This should hold what I need.'

Theq wears a backpack on his back.

Lucie looks at Theq.

Lucie arches an eyebrow.

Theq adjusts the straps of his new pack.

Crenna feels parched from the hot weather.

Lucie takes in Theq's garb, noting the tairen buckle.

Theq says 'Yes. It's comfortable enough.'

Crenna looks from Lucie to Theq, uncertain.

Theq looks down at himself at Lucie's gaze.

Theq says 'I do need to have this belt exchanged.'

Lucie looks up at Theq and smiles.

Theq says 'My apologies, Lieutenant.'

Lucie says 'I'm simply shocked it fits you.'

Lucie says 'All Tairens are such arrogant pigs.'

Theq nods at Lucie.

Lucie smirks.

Lucie's cheeks color faintly as she smiles.

Lucie says 'I know you'll see to it when you can.'

Crenna watches the exchange, looking slightly uncomfortable.

Theq frowns.

Lucie drinks dark beer from a small keg.

Theq says 'Is something that matter, Crenna?'

Lucie sets the keg down next to her.

Crenna says 'Why do you need two packs, Drillmaster?'

Crenna feels parched from the hot weather.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Why else? To carry my things.'

Theq purses his lips.

Crenna says 'Have you thought to...seek out the Wisdom...who helped you? Perhaps to thank her?'

Lucie's eyes narrow in thought.

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Theq says flatly, 'No.'

Theq says 'But...'

Crenna says 'Sorry. I overstepped myself.'

Theq hefts his pack.

Theq says 'I -am- leaving.'

Lucie arches an eyebrow.

Lucie clambers to her feet.

Crenna's eyes widen.

Lucie says 'See here, what's this about?'

Crenna says 'For a trip? Or for good?'

Theq ignores Crenna, 'What's what about, Lieutenant?'

Lucie says 'About you leaving?'

Theq says 'Well, I plan to take the ship.'

Crenna clamps her mouth shut, glancing at the Lieutenant.

Theq gestures to the south.

Lucie says 'This official business, or are you leaving your post?'

Theq says 'I...'

Theq pauses.

Lucie says 'You?'

Crenna watches Theq intently.

Theq says 'The Lady First is aware, Lieutenant.'

Lucie plants her hands on her hips and looks at Theq with mild disbelief.

Theq says 'And my loyalties remain with Mayene.'

Lucie says 'Yet not to your brothers and sisters.'

A mumbling lunatic has arrived from the south.

Lucie looks at a mumbling lunatic.

Lucie looks at Theq.

Theq pauses to choose his words carefully.

Crenna looks concerned, but keeps her mouth shut.

The sun slowly sinks behind the majestic towers of Mayene.

Theq says 'My brothers and sisters currently have no use for me. My name does not appear on the duty roster.'

Theq says 'The Lady First has granted me a leave of absence during this time.'

Lucie says 'For a period of how long?'

Lucie drinks dark beer from a small keg.

Lucie drinks dark beer from a small keg.

Lucie snarls.

Lucie picks up the empty keg and violently pitches it across the square

Lucie scowls darkly.

Crenna takes a step back, closer to the fountain.

Lucie looks at Theq and says 'You will not leave until I return and I say our conversation is done.'

Lucie mutters to herself in complete disgust.

Lucie leaves north.

Crenna looks around.

Crenna says 'Theq...'

Theq says 'Yes?'

Theq tilts his head.

Crenna says 'Are you sure this is what you want?'

Aldwyn has arrived from the north.
Lucie has arrived from the north.

Aldwyn looks at Theq.

Theq says 'What is what I want.'

Theq frowns.

Lucie says 'Theq, until what time?'

Lucie says 'Will you return?'

Theq says 'As long as it takes.'

Lucie arches an eyebrow.

Aldwyn says 'What's this I'm hearing about?'

Lucie says 'You cannot run from whatever it is that is riding you.'

Theq looks around at the crowd.

Theq frowns.

Crenna nods at Lucie's words.

Lucie says 'Why did you ask for leave?'

Lucie searches Theq's face for some evidence of the truth.

Theq stares around defiantly.

Theq says 'I'm planning a trip.'

Theq says 'A holiday, if you will.'

Lucie says 'You're planning to not come back.'

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna frowns.

Lucie offers a challenging look.

Lucie says 'Am I wrong?'

Theq shakes his head.

Theq says 'I plan to return.'

Theq says 'Now...'

Theq looks around.

Theq says 'Do any of you wish to challenge the Lady First's own words?'

Theq tilts his head.

Lucie says 'This mystery is a rope too knotted to unravel. I know too little, have come too late.'

Aldwyn says 'You know we won't, but...'

Aldwyn says 'I have a simple request.'

Theq says flatly, 'I make no promises.'

Theq adds, 'My Lord.'

Crenna relaxes slightly as Aldwyn speaks.

Aldwyn says 'Which option you choose is yours to decide, but I'd ask that you either inform someone of where you will be heading so that you can be found if something arises that requires you.'

Aldwyn says 'Or...'

Lucie drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.

Lucie drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.

Lucie drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.

Aldwyn says 'That you stay in contact with someone with regular correspondence.'

Theq frowns.

Theq looks at the ground, considering.

Theq steps forward towards Aldwyn.

Theq says 'If I tell you where I'm going. Will you try to stop me?'

Theq gestures around.

Theq says 'Will you allow anyone else to attempt to stop me?'

Lucie looks to Aldwyn with a measure of trust.

Crenna frowns in concern.

Aldwyn says 'I won't, you have the First's blessing I'm told, but...'

Aldwyn says 'I want to be very clear on this part.'

Aldwyn says 'I pray to the Creator that you are not lying about the First's permissions.'

Theq says 'It is not in my nature to lie.'

Aldwyn says 'I haven't known you to lie, and I don't mean to insinuate that.'

Theq adds, 'My Lord.'

Theq looks around the square once more.

Aldwyn says 'I'm just giving fair warning to cover all circumstance.'

Theq says 'If you have dire need of me.'

Theq pauses.

Crenna watches Theq closely.

Theq says 'If someone must contact me in.'

Theq says 'I might be found in Bandar Eban.'

Theq hefts his pack.

Crenna's eyes widen.

Lucie frowns.

Aldwyn frowns a bit but nods, "I figure you'll be back when you are ready."

Theq says 'I will return when I can.'

Aldwyn says 'I trust you, Theq.'

Crenna stares at Theq, and then nods.

Aldwyn steps close to Theq.

Theq glances down at his blade.

Aldwyn claps Theq on the back.

Aldwyn says 'You are a part of this family and we will miss you. And we will rejoice when you return.'

Lucie looks at Theq, her face pained.

Theq nods at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'Farewell.'

Lucie reaches out to grab Theq's forearm. She swallows hard and whispers 'Wait.'

Theq looks down at his arm.

Lucie frowns and withdraws her hand.

Theq says 'I have waited long enough, Lieutenant.'

Theq says 'It is time to finish what was started.'

Lucie says 'But..'

Lucie says 'Cowardice and courage are never without a measure of affectation. Nor is love. Feelings are never true. They play with their mirrors.'

Crenna's eyes water.

Lucie says 'This. This here...'

Lucie says 'This is true.'

Lucie says 'Your brothers and sisters are true.'

Theq stops and looks at each of you in turn.

Lucie says 'Days I feel surrounded yet still alone, I can at least hold to that.'

Theq says 'Unless I am dead. I will return to you.'

Theq says 'But if I do not leave, I am dead already.'

Theq says 'Now, I really must be going. The captain will sail without me.'

Lucie says 'For the First and Mayene.'

Lucie snaps to attention and salutes Theq.

Theq says 'For the First and Mayene.'

Lucie turns on her heel and walks away.

Lucie leaves north.

salute theq
Crenna salutes him.

Theq nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'For the First and Mayene, brother. Swift journey to you.'

Theq nods at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'Farewell.'

Crenna says 'Please remember that you are worthy of happiness, Theq.'

Theq leaves south.

Spam to the docks.

give 3 crowns heavy
You give him three crowns.

The Captain of a cargo ship nods at you.

The Captain orders a plank to be lowered and helps you inside his ship.

Inside a Small Cargo Ship
The accommodations are far from pleasant in this small ship. You are
positioned among badly tied crates of various sizes holding goods from
around the world from lamp oil to smelly fish. Large timber masts support
the roof and considering how the small ship moves, it would be wise to
cling on to one of them during the journey. A tall grating overhead leads
onto the main deck, but appears to be locked.
[ obvious exits: ]

The ship juts roughly into motion, sending a few badly tied crates into slide.

Theq closes his eyes and leans back against a crate.

The ship jumps up and down as it encounters larger waves, sending even more of its cargo into motion.

Theq murmurs, 'I am coming for you. I am coming for you all...'

The ship rocks violently, forcing you to cling on to what you can in order to stay in one place.

Finally the rocking settles down a bit and crates stop moving.

The ship slows down as it approaches the docks of Illian.

Shouts can be heard overhead.

Finally the ship comes to a halt and the world seems to stop spinning.

The grating is opened from above and the Captain helps you onto the deck, and onward to the docks of Illian.

Theq looks around before setting off again, 'Here I come.'

**This is a story written by Theq with Raquel's permission to make it look like a log**

Somewhere in Bandar Eban...

Merry Eric's Tavern
The bitterly cold sea winds that blow in over the Domani Avenue from the
west fails to reach into this warm, merry place called Merry Eric's Tavern.
A local bartender sells drinks at a reasonable price and the atmosphere is
welcoming. There are some stairs leading up to the second floor and the
avenue is south.
[ obvious exits: E S ]
A barkeeper is here.
A cloaked figure is sitting here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.

A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.
A ruffian is lounging here.

Theq stands in the doorway looking around, a cloak covering his face.

Theq eyes the ruffians in the corner, nodding to himself.

Theq mumbles, 'I knew they'd be here.'

Theq makes his way to the bar, nodding to the barkeeper.

Theq points at the barkeep raising a single finger.

Theq takes the mug of ale from the the barkeeper, swirling the contents carefully.

Theq drinks the ale and closes his eyes.

Theq breathes in slowly before exhaling.

Theq murmurs, 'Well. This is what I came for. To end this.'

Theq drains the remainder of his ale and makes his way towards the ruffian crew.

Theq lowers his hood as he nears the table, 'Hello lads. Remember me?'

Theq draws his sword, slamming the hilt into the face of the closest ruffian on his left.

Theq ignores the -crack- as the first ruffian collapses to the floor.

Theq steps back between the tables and the wall, snarling.

Theq says 'I'll take you all on. I should have ended you years ago.'

Theq dodged the ruffian's slash.

Theq launched forward with his own attack, first stabbing forward with his sword and then rotating it against the first ruffian's blade.

Theq disarmed the ruffian in one swift strike before slashing again and connecting the point of his sword with the ruffian's belly.

Theq smiled as the first ruffian collapsed to the floor.

Theq jumped back, narrowly avoiding two simultaneous strikes from ruffians to the left and right of him.

Theq parried a third slash before bringing his elbow up sharply under the chin of the fourth ruffian.

Theq brought his sword around in a wide arch, catching the stunned ruffian in the neck.

Theq turned to face the next attacker as the last crumpled to the ground.

Theq charged forward, 'Come on! Come at me!'

Theq clashed blades with two ruffians, parrying their hits but failing to land a decisive blow.

Theq screamed in pain as a stray blade caught his arm, barely managing to hold onto his own sword.

Theq dropped to the ground and rolled under a table, bleeding profusely.

Theq stood to face the next attacker, the first from the front but the second from behind escaped his vision.

Theq felt a blunt blow to his head and he crumpled.

Theq fell to the floor, twisting just enough to land on his back.

Theq looked up at the ceiling with yet another bandit pointing a sword at his throat.

A ruffian says 'And now... You die.'

Theq closed his eyes, in that moment a million thoughts flashing through his mind.

Theq open his eyes to a sharp -clang- as metal connected with metal and the ruffian's blade stopped inches from his face.

A cloaked figure parried the ruffian's blade swiftly turning it aside.

A cloaked figure struck in almost the same motion driving their own sword through the ruffian's stomach.

Theq nodded and stood quickly, in time to face the next ruffian.

Theq struck again, harder this time, ignoring the cry of pain as the next ruffian died.

Theq sweat profusely parrying the oncoming attacks as he found it harder to hold his blade with fatigue setting in.

Racquel ended the next ruffian with a final twist of her blade, before stepping over the corpse to face her final attacker.

Theq says 'Who taught you to hold a blade, woman?!'

Racquel grunted in reply, 'I'm a woman of many talents...'

Theq parried the next strike and returned in kind, again hitting true as blood poured from the ruffian's throat.

Theq swing his sword a second time, connecting with a second ruffian and nodded with satisfaction as the man too hit the floor.

Racquel swung her own blade and connected with her last attacker and ended his assault.

Theq nodded, turning to face the final ruffian.

Theq says 'Salin. Your crew is dead. It's your turn to join them.'

Salin Rovond sneered.

Salin Rovond says 'I will -destroy- you!'

Salin Rovond lifted his axe and charged forward.

Theq deftly stepped sideaways, taking as much effort as he could afford to lift his sword a final time.

Theq took half a step backwards as his sword connected with the axe as he felt a jarring down his arm.

Theq grunted, turning away the oncoming attack with difficulty.

Salin Rovond came again, bringing his axe down hard and fast.

Theq moved once more, dodging where he could, trying to avoid the sharp jarring he felt with each parry of his sword.

Theq groaned moving his sword arm, murmuring, 'It's time to end this...'

Theq dropped his sword and pulled his dagger from his belt.

Salin Rovond came again bring his axe down hard.

Theq dived forward, barely missing the axe swing before coming up alongside the ruffian leader.

Theq hissed, 'And now you die.'

Theq slammed his dagger home into the side of Salin before quickly removing it.

Salin Rovond dropped his axe and grabbed the wound as he screamed in pain.

Theq swiftly moved behind the ruffian and slid the blade across his throat.

Theq whispered, 'It is done.'

Theq dropped his dagger and turned to Racquel.

Racquel stepped forward and embraced Theq, 'Now, it is over.'

Theq nodded to Racquel, returning her embrace.

Racquel looked around the bar, 'Come Theq. You have wounds I should attend to.'

Theq gathered his weapons, nodding.

A ruffian groaned, 'What happened?'

A ruffian sits up groggily.

Theq purses his lips in the direction of the ruffian and frowned.

Theq says, 'It looks like I missed one...'

Theq turns to Racquel, 'A moment.'

Theq sends a ruffian sprawling with a powerful bash!
A ruffian is dead.
Was it good for you too?

Theq offers his arm to Racquel.

Theq says, 'Now we can go.'

**The Winged Guard receive a pigeon in Mayene**

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Guard,

This is a short note to let you know that I am safe in Bandar Eban. I have met an old friend and I intend to stay here for a while. I plan to return to you all and Mayene soon.

Point of view: Theq
Main character: Theq

Barracks of the Winged Guard
Simple beds line the walls of this large room. At the foot of each bed is a
sturdy wooden chest, and several beds have small tables beside them. The
walls are scantily decorated with yellowed maps and a few tattered crimson
streamers. An aging member of the Winged Guard sits on a nearby bed,
polishing a crimson breastplate engraved with a golden hawk. A large iron
furnace stands in the middle of room, although it appears to be relatively
unused.

Theq Spectre is sitting here.

Theq sought the void. He found he'd been trying that more and more, lately. It was an apparently simple trick that farmers and soldiers alike had used to achieve a calmness of mind. Theq himself had been taught by his own father, but had never been able to master the skill. Theq closed his eyes, seeing only blackness. In the centre of the blackness, he allowed a small sphere of white light to appear. Theq knew that there was more than one way to enter the void. Some chose to use a flame, feeding their thoughts into it. For himself, he had always appreciated the symmetrical nature of the sphere. Theq cleared his mind, allowing each thought or feeling to feed the sphere. Instead of simply trying not to think of something and keeping his mind blank, he actively pushed his thoughts towards the sphere. With each thought, memory or passing emotion, the sphere grow. The brilliant light slowly filled his vision, replacing the darkness. Theq’s thoughts turned to Demecure. To the pain and suffering in Bandar Eban. To Racquel.

Theq cursed as the sphere collapsed and his feelings flooded him. He opened his eyes and looked around the room. Theq sniffed as he shifted positions on the floor and the still-fresh cuts to his skin from his most recent battle in Bandar Eban still reminded him that he was alive. Standing, Theq muttered, ‘It’s a stupid trick anyway. It never works.’ Theq took his cloak from his bed and sheathed his sword on his hip, ‘It’s time to begin my patrol.’

Theq leaves south.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Northern Road
This road snakes north and south. To the north it leads to the city
gates, and directly to the south it intersects another road at a small plaza.
The road is built of large stone blocks that have been worn smooth with the
passage of time in this busy city. Sounds of music and shouting come from
the east, and the stench of old ale wafts out.

Theq ducked as a chair flew out of the tavern door. Grumbling he glanced towards the opening where angry shouts could be heard from inside. ‘That doesn’t sound like your typical tavern brawl,’ he muttered. Theq lifted his sword from his sheathe before letting it drop in again, checking that it was free if he needed it and turned into the tavern.

A barkeeper is here.
A drunk is here.
A drunk is here.
A burly man waves his arms angrily here.

Theq arrives from the west.

A burly man looks up.

A burly man says ‘You. You must help me…’

A burly man steps forward.

A burly man gestures around the bar.

A burly man says, ‘My daughter has been captured. By bandits. These two were paid to protect her, but they seem to be… Distracted.’

A drunk slurs, ‘Ah-aye! Wee-ah not! Its-ura not our fault ya girl ranna awf!’

A drunk hiccups!
A drunk hiccups!
A drunk hiccups!

A burly man glares angrily, ‘I will deal with you later.’

A burly man turns to Theq, ‘Please, you must help me. I’m sure it’s the bandits to the north. Mayene and the First cannot let this happen to innocent children!’

Theq nods, ‘I will see your girl safe, Sir.’

Theq leaves west.

Bandit Camp
A makeshift camp has been arranged on the hillock. Logs and branches have
been gathered and thrown down beside a smoking campfire. The lack of order
is blatantly obvious. A piece of canvas has been draped over the branches
of a tree to provide a temporary dwelling place for several rough men.

Theq arrives from the west.

A bandit crew leader looks up.

A bandit crew leader laughs, ‘Now what have we here, eh? This doesn’t look like much of a rescue party. Go running back to the city, boy, and tell this one’s father that the ransom just doubled.’

A bandit crew leader frowns and looks Theq up and down.

A bandit crew leader says, ‘Actually. Make it triple. Just for insulting me.’

Theq unsheathes his sword, ‘I’ve come to end you.’

A bandit crew leader cackles, ‘With your imaginary army?’

A bandit crew leader laughs loudly, ‘Go on then lads. Get ‘im!’

A bandit crew leader sneers, ‘And there’s no need to keep him alive too long…’

HP:Healthy MV:Fresh >
Theq immediately conceded ground as three bandits came for him at once.

Theq barely dodged the first blade, but raised his sword to block the second.

Theq jumped sideways, rolled back into an upright position as the third bandit swung his own sword.

Theq grunted as he immediately turned to face two more bandits behind him.

Theq parried the first swing, stepping back from the recoil and grunting as his arm jarred wincing at the impact.

HP:Scratched MV:Full >
Theq turned away from the second bandit in front of him, but the impact of the first hit slowed his movement just enough for him to take a glancing blow across his shoulder.

Theq grimaced, ignoring the insult and changed his stance to compensate.

HP:Hurt MV:Full >
Theq launched his own attack at closest bandit, swinging his blade wildly and forcing the attacker back.

Theq swung powerfully, but couldn’t break the bandit’s defense.

A filthy bandit smirks, ‘I don’t think you can fight us all, boy…’

Theq conceded ground again, backing into more bandits behind him.

Theq grunted loudly, as this time a glancing blow pierced skin once more.

HP:Wounded MV:Strong >
Theq danced sideways into a clear space to catch his breath.

Theq breathed heavily as the bandits advanced on him, ‘You’re…. Better…. Than…. I… expected….’

A bandit crew leader laughed, ‘You’ve had your fun. End him now!’

Theq advanced again, swinging his blade, connecting with the blades of the bandits but still not breaking their defense.

Theq screamed out in pain, dropping to his knee as a bandit’s weapon struck true through his thigh.

HP:Beaten MV:Tiring >
Theq dropped his head, looking at the ground.

Theq closed his eyes, seeing only blackness.

Theq could hear, what sounded so distant now, the voice of the bandit leader, ‘Look lads. He’s going to sleep! Make sure he stays there.’

Theq kept his eyes closed, seeing only blackness, then allowed the small sphere to form.

Theq began to feed his pain, fair and emotions into the sphere.

Theq slowed his breathing as the sphere enlarged and the brilliant, white light began to fill his mind.

Theq cleared his mind, pushing not only his pain into it, but all this thoughts. All his memories. Demecure. Racquel. There sphere filled his vision, encompassing the blackness until it was gone.

Theq slowly opened his eyes. In truth it was barely moments to reach the calm, clarity of the void. But to Theq, it felt like hours.

Theq stood, and levelled his sword at the attackers.

Theq calmly said, ‘This is your final warning. After this, you die.’

The bandit crew leader laughed louder, ‘Kill him!’

HP:Healthy MV:Full >
Theq glided between the bandits, each strike of his blade with purpose. No movement wasted.

Theq struck.

**This is a story written to look like a log by Theq with Racquel's permission**

A Serene Park
Neatly-clipped grass makes a sea of rolling green through this small park.
Tall leatherleaf trees mix with oaks, their limbs twined together like a
lover's embrace to provide privacy and shade. A pond glitters in the midst
of the grass where a weeping willow gracefully trails its branches across
the water. Flowers grow in an abundance of perfume and color like an
artist's palette gone wild.
[ obvious exits: S ]
A clear pond lies undisturbed here, unmarred waters offering a clean reflection.
Theq Spectre is here.
Racquel A’Hara is here.

Theq was in the void. Unhurried, unfussed. He just was.

Theq moved with speed, although time appeared slow to him.

Theq swung his sword hard and fast, the wing whistling past the sharpened blade.

Racquel was quicker.

Racquel dodged the on-coming blade before striking back with her weapon.

Theq blocked the strike easily, smiling at the sound of metal-on-metal.

Racquel came again, faster again, but with each strike was met with Theq’s parry.

Racquel stepped back, giving herself room and flung her cloak from her shoulders.

Racquel says puffing, ‘Damn thing is getting in the way of my swing.’

Theq smirks.

Theq says ‘It’s not your swing that’s the problem, woman.’

Theq lunged forward again, striking low.

Racquel was still faster, dodging to the side.

Theq turned, doing his best to hide his own fatigue.

Theq puffed, ‘You’re quick.’

Racquel laughed, ‘I’m not wool-headed enough to wear that silly heavy chainmail, like you.’

Racquel danced forward, swirling her sword.

Theq parried the attack easily.

Theq says ‘And I wouldn’t use that silly girly blade. It’s too light.’

Racquel frowned at her blade, ‘But I like it…’

Racquel danced forward again, this time not trying to strike.

Theq swung at Racquel, but she dodged inside his swing getting close to him.

Racquel turned her blade, this time aiming the hilt directing at Theq’s chest.

Racquel sends Theq sprawling with a powerful bash!

Racquel A’Hara is here, fighting Theq.

Theq grimaced as he hit the ground.

Theq says ‘Damn woman, who taught you that?!’

Theq rolled to the side, standing quickly.

Theq barely parried the fast blow coming towards his head.

Racquel laughed, ‘I told you. I’m a woman of many talents.’

Theq eyed Racquel cautiously.

Theq whispered, ‘Show me then.’

Theq moved forwards as the park became more of a blur.

Racquel parried and moved herself.

Theq swung hard, with each blow from his own blade parried and met with a retaliative strike of its own.

Theq moved further into the void, but he could still sense peripherally that he was starting to tire.

Racquel was nearing exhaustion, her strikes becoming less aggressive, less powerful and less frequent.

Racquel turned her attention to just defense, continuing to parry the attacks towards her.

Theq sensed his moment.

Theq sends Racquel sprawling with a powerful bash!

Theq stepped over to Racquel, offering his hand to lift her up.

Racquel took Theq’s hand, pulling herself up.

Racquel took in deep breaths, lifting her blade once more.

Theq stepped close to her, gently using his own sword to push her smaller blade aside.

Theq put his other arm around her tightly.

Theq whispered, ‘That’s enough for today.’

Racquel nodded and leaned in close with Theq’s embrace.

Racquel dropped her sword and put head on Theq’s chest.

Racquel breathed heavily, remaining silent.

Theq says ‘You’ve become quite skilled with a blade, Racquel. Maybe we should recruit you into the Guard.’

Racquel murmured, ‘I wouldn’t want to have to show you up in front of the other recruits…’

Theq smiled down at the woman in his arms.

Theq kissed her lightly on the forehead.

Racquel tensed slightly, before pushing herself out of Theq’s grasp.

Racquel sighs heavily.

Racquel says ‘Theq… I’m not sure… We decided…’

Racquel trails off.

Racquel says ‘Sorry. We can’t.’

Racquel leaves south.

Theq sighs, turning away.

Theq sat down, cross-legged at the edge of the pond.

Theq said nothing as he closed his eyes, seeking the void once more.
