**Post from old clan forum from Crenna*
OOC Background: It's way too much to post 6 hours of RP. This log takes place after the following and does not include Crenna welcoming Elyse Sedai to the city, telling Joryn about her dream, recruiting him for the Winged Guard and telling him about all the tasks he'd need to complete. I chose this part of the log to share as it best showed some of Joyrn's background. Unfortunately for Joryn, Crenna is still experimenting...and although she intends only playfulness, she unfortunately is still somewhat clueless to her effect on men.
The Dancing Badger
This busy tavern is a large room, with rows of tables and chairs, battered
and beaten from years of constant use and abuse. The smell of stout ale
fills the tavern, and the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years.
All sorts of ruffians and lowlife visit this establishment, and it seems to
have been the site of several recent fights, judging by the bloodstains on
the floor. Illumination is provided by cracked lanterns.
Crenna says 'Now, even before you're officially a Winged Guard, you could help by representing us well.'
Crenna says 'For example talking to various people who travel to our City, just like you did today with Elyse Sedai.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'And like I did yesterday with a mysterious Ranger.'
Crenna blushes slightly.
Joryn says 'oh?'
Crenna says 'Oh yes. What an interesting person he was'
Crenna says 'I was off duty, but when I heard someone new was in town, I of course went to meet him.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'First, with the intent of ensuring he wasn't up to anything nefarious and, second, to ensure he felt.... welcomed.'
Crenna coughs loudly.
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.
Crenna says 'And being that I was off duty, I invited him to this tavern to get to know him better.'
Crenna says 'He was... very charming.'
Joryn says 'charming eh?'
Crenna says 'I don't think I've ever been complimented more in a single evening...even when attending functions my parents put on to have me meet eligible suitors.'
Crenna pauses in thought, a slight smile on her lips.
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'Anyway, I gave him a warm Mayener welcome.'
Crenna chuckles politely.
Joryn strokes his chin thoughtfully.
Joryn says 'I don't think I know what that is'
Crenna takes a sip, hiding a smile.
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Crenna says 'I was just... polite. I met his wit with witty retorts. I ensured he had a pleasant time although it wasn't one sided.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Joryn shifts in his seat.
Crenna says 'I then gave his name to... Lord Cuebiyar a'Ayende just as I was curious if he had heard of this man who had left quite an impression on me.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'I suppose any one of the Officers of high rank, would want to know perhaps whom is charming their soldiers.. Of course.'
sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.
Crenna says 'Anyway, it was quite an evening.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Joryn peers into his goblet.
Crenna says 'Now, what of you?'
Crenna says 'How have you found your experience since arriving in Mayene?'
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Joryn says 'busy scrubbing pots and pitching hay when I am not with you, the hayloft still demands payment'
Joryn blushes.
Crenna flashes a smile.
Joryn says 'I have little time for much else'
Crenna nods in agreement.
Joryn grunts as his shoulders slump.
Crenna says 'Your hard work will pay off I think.'
Crenna says 'Your own path has led you here has it not?'
Crenna smiles happily.
Joryn peers into his goblet and nods, 'Perhaps.'.
Joryn nods in agreement.
Joryn says 'it has'
Crenna says 'And I can see a bright future for you in our Ranks.'
Joryn places his hands palm up on the table, callouses and scabs covering them.
Joryn says 'this is what I have earned so far, apart from the pleasure of your company of course'
Crenna slides a fork and knife to you.
Joryn peers at the fork, taking it in his hand.
Joryn takes it in a fisted hand and stabs it into the steak.
Crenna says 'Customs vary. But in most places you tend to cut with the knife in your right while holding the meat in place with fork in your left. And then switch the fork into your right hand when you are ready to skewer a piece to bring it to your lips.'
Joryn starts to lift the entire steak before thinking better of it.
Joryn blushes, nodding.
Crenna models what she means.
Joryn frowns, nodding, mimicking the movements, a pained look briefly crossing his face.
Crenna says 'And in some places you may see many different kinds of forks, spoons, etc. In such cases you can either just look to others to know which implement to use, or generally you eat using the implements on the outside first, and work you way inwards for each additional course.'
Crenna says 'However, culinary habits vary in the Ranks. I wouldn't be surprised if some Soldiers just pick up the steak and eat it by hand.'
Crenna says 'But, with a lady in company, I generally suggest restraint from doing that even if you are very hungry.'
Crenna winks suggestively.
Joryn nods, blushing deeply.
Joryn awkwardly eats with the knife and fork.
Crenna stands but motions you to remain seated.
Crenna walks to stand right behind you, reaches over your shoulder, her loose flower-fragrant hair falling near your face, as she takes a napkin.
Crenna then flicks the napkin so it unfolds, and then places it on your lap.
Crenna winks and then retakes her seat.
Joryn glances at his greasy sleeve and blushes once more.
Crenna says 'Now, I don't know that many care to use napkins while in armor, but normally you would place one like so onto your lap.'
Crenna says 'And then use it, as needed, instead of a hand or a sleeve, to wipe your face as needed.'
Crenna looks serious for a moment.
Joryn nods silently, looking frustrated for a moment before snapping back to normal.
Crenna says 'Joryn, I do want to say, that I like you fine as you are. I merely want to prepare you for when you should meet the Officers.'
Crenna says 'Beyond that, as we are friends, I had thought to ask if you wanted to attend the Feast of Lights with me... of if that is too much, then perhaps just to accompany me on the journey north.'
Joryn says 'I'd love to attend with you of course'
Crenna says 'Oh really?'
Crenna says 'To wear a costume and kiss all the girls?'
Crenna is just too cute.
Crenna says 'Perhaps I misread you earlier.'
Joryn says 'misread?'
Crenna says 'You seemed...surprised.. at the customs in this festival.'
Joryn says 'I come from an isolated farm, I know nothing of such things'
Joryn says 'trips into town for Beltane and such, that was it, and it was never anything like what you described'
Joryn frowns at the table and his hands.
Crenna says 'Well I've only been to this festival once, but it is an experience to remember.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Joryn says 'but you're used to such things, feasts and whatnot'
Crenna says 'Well then. I'm not sure yet which day to depart but it will be soon.'
Crenna says 'Indeed.'
Crenna says 'And I'm used to customs both in Mayene and Cairhien.'
Joryn says 'I'm used to mucking stables'
Joryn blushes.
Crenna says 'That is respectful, honest work.'
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Joryn says 'and I have a hayloft to show for it'
Crenna says 'Everyone starts from somewhere and not all Lords are born -- some are made through hard work and dedication.'
Crenna says 'Perhaps one day you will have a wife and children and will tell them of the value of honest, hard work.'
Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Joryn says 'perhaps'
Crenna says 'I don't mean to imply your preferences or desires of course.'
Crenna smiles happily.
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'Many in our Ranks choose not to have families as our campaigns sometimes take us far from the comforts of home and impact the kind of stability many families require.'
Crenna says 'It is of course a personal decision.'
Joryn leans back in his chair, gazing into his cup, 'I believed the stories, that's why I have all of this, and I have a hayloft...'.
Crenna nods slightly.
Joryn glances about the tavern, 'This is perhaps the finest place I've ever been in.'.
Crenna says 'If you will come North with me to my family's country estate you'll see more.'
Joryn says 'your family's estate?'
Crenna says 'Yes, once I arrive in Cairhien, I will need to see my parents.'
Crenna says 'They are eager to sell me on the idea of marrying some wealthy Lord or something I'm sure.'
Crenna says 'I don't care for that though. '
Crenna says 'I don't need a man to define my value and worth.'
Crenna says 'And I prefer integrity to wealth.'
Joryn nods, sitting up a bit straighter.
Joryn smiles at Crenna.
Crenna returns your smile.
Crenna says 'Well, this is a rare thing, but I start to feel I've run out of words.'
Crenna smiles happily.
sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.
Crenna says 'We have certainly talked for quite a long time.'
Crenna smiles happily.
Crenna says 'All of it pleasant.'
Joryn says 'very, as always'
Joryn blushes.
Crenna says 'And so, would you like to take some time, perhaps, to compose your letter?'
Crenna says 'Once you've let me know it's been sent, we could perhaps meet again for what I will call, Adventures in Training.'
Crenna is just too cute.
Joryn nods in agreement.
Joryn smiles at Crenna.
Crenna says 'Shall I take you to the inn? I can send for a scribe if you'd prefer not to write the letter yourself.'
Joryn stands, moving over to stand by you, touching your hand a moment before raising it, bowing as he does to brush the back of your hand gently wit his lips, 'I thank you for the feast, I've not had food this good ever in my life.'.
Crenna smiles and stands.
Crenna embraces you in a warm hug.
Crenna says 'The first of many, my friend.'
Joryn returns your embrace.
Joryn says 'I hope so'
Crenna says 'If you have any concern about your own abilities, trust in me.'
Crenna says 'I will not let you fail.'
Crenna says 'More than that though, I was raised from an early age to read people.'
Joryn smiles at Crenna.
Joryn says 'oh?'
Crenna says 'I know you will do well. You have a good heart and good intentions, Joryn.'
Joryn smiles at Crenna.
Crenna pulls away from the embrace stepping away to hold you out at arm length.
Crenna says 'I know you won't fail.'
Crenna nods.
Crenna squeezes lightly and releases her grip.
Joryn smiles, gazing at you a moment before stepping back.
Crenna says 'I will bring you to the inn now.'
Joryn nods in agreement.
Crenna says 'I will also sleep in the inn tonight I think -- feel free to summon me once you've sent the letter.'
