Crenna tells Joryn about a Mysterious Ranger (Dec. 30, 2015) ---&RPAward

Post by Aldwyn » Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:01 pm

**Post from old clan forum from Crenna*

OOC Background: It's way too much to post 6 hours of RP. This log takes place after the following and does not include Crenna welcoming Elyse Sedai to the city, telling Joryn about her dream, recruiting him for the Winged Guard and telling him about all the tasks he'd need to complete. I chose this part of the log to share as it best showed some of Joyrn's background. Unfortunately for Joryn, Crenna is still experimenting...and although she intends only playfulness, she unfortunately is still somewhat clueless to her effect on men.

The Dancing Badger
This busy tavern is a large room, with rows of tables and chairs, battered
and beaten from years of constant use and abuse. The smell of stout ale
fills the tavern, and the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years.
All sorts of ruffians and lowlife visit this establishment, and it seems to
have been the site of several recent fights, judging by the bloodstains on
the floor. Illumination is provided by cracked lanterns.

Crenna says 'Now, even before you're officially a Winged Guard, you could help by representing us well.'

Crenna says 'For example talking to various people who travel to our City, just like you did today with Elyse Sedai.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'And like I did yesterday with a mysterious Ranger.'

Crenna blushes slightly.

Joryn says 'oh?'

Crenna says 'Oh yes. What an interesting person he was'

Crenna says 'I was off duty, but when I heard someone new was in town, I of course went to meet him.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'First, with the intent of ensuring he wasn't up to anything nefarious and, second, to ensure he felt.... welcomed.'

Crenna coughs loudly.

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Crenna says 'And being that I was off duty, I invited him to this tavern to get to know him better.'

Crenna says 'He was... very charming.'

Joryn says 'charming eh?'

Crenna says 'I don't think I've ever been complimented more in a single evening...even when attending functions my parents put on to have me meet eligible suitors.'

Crenna pauses in thought, a slight smile on her lips.

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'Anyway, I gave him a warm Mayener welcome.'

Crenna chuckles politely.

Joryn strokes his chin thoughtfully.

Joryn says 'I don't think I know what that is'

Crenna takes a sip, hiding a smile.

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna says 'I was just... polite. I met his wit with witty retorts. I ensured he had a pleasant time although it wasn't one sided.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn shifts in his seat.

Crenna says 'I then gave his name to... Lord Cuebiyar a'Ayende just as I was curious if he had heard of this man who had left quite an impression on me.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'I suppose any one of the Officers of high rank, would want to know perhaps whom is charming their soldiers.. Of course.'

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Crenna says 'Anyway, it was quite an evening.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn peers into his goblet.

Crenna says 'Now, what of you?'

Crenna says 'How have you found your experience since arriving in Mayene?'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn says 'busy scrubbing pots and pitching hay when I am not with you, the hayloft still demands payment'

Joryn blushes.

Crenna flashes a smile.

Joryn says 'I have little time for much else'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Joryn grunts as his shoulders slump.

Crenna says 'Your hard work will pay off I think.'

Crenna says 'Your own path has led you here has it not?'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn peers into his goblet and nods, 'Perhaps.'.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'it has'

Crenna says 'And I can see a bright future for you in our Ranks.'

Joryn places his hands palm up on the table, callouses and scabs covering them.

Joryn says 'this is what I have earned so far, apart from the pleasure of your company of course'

Crenna slides a fork and knife to you.

Joryn peers at the fork, taking it in his hand.

Joryn takes it in a fisted hand and stabs it into the steak.

Crenna says 'Customs vary. But in most places you tend to cut with the knife in your right while holding the meat in place with fork in your left. And then switch the fork into your right hand when you are ready to skewer a piece to bring it to your lips.'

Joryn starts to lift the entire steak before thinking better of it.

Joryn blushes, nodding.

Crenna models what she means.

Joryn frowns, nodding, mimicking the movements, a pained look briefly crossing his face.

Crenna says 'And in some places you may see many different kinds of forks, spoons, etc. In such cases you can either just look to others to know which implement to use, or generally you eat using the implements on the outside first, and work you way inwards for each additional course.'

Crenna says 'However, culinary habits vary in the Ranks. I wouldn't be surprised if some Soldiers just pick up the steak and eat it by hand.'

Crenna says 'But, with a lady in company, I generally suggest restraint from doing that even if you are very hungry.'

Crenna winks suggestively.

Joryn nods, blushing deeply.

Joryn awkwardly eats with the knife and fork.

Crenna stands but motions you to remain seated.

Crenna walks to stand right behind you, reaches over your shoulder, her loose flower-fragrant hair falling near your face, as she takes a napkin.

Crenna then flicks the napkin so it unfolds, and then places it on your lap.

Crenna winks and then retakes her seat.

Joryn glances at his greasy sleeve and blushes once more.

Crenna says 'Now, I don't know that many care to use napkins while in armor, but normally you would place one like so onto your lap.'

Crenna says 'And then use it, as needed, instead of a hand or a sleeve, to wipe your face as needed.'

Crenna looks serious for a moment.

Joryn nods silently, looking frustrated for a moment before snapping back to normal.

Crenna says 'Joryn, I do want to say, that I like you fine as you are. I merely want to prepare you for when you should meet the Officers.'

Crenna says 'Beyond that, as we are friends, I had thought to ask if you wanted to attend the Feast of Lights with me... of if that is too much, then perhaps just to accompany me on the journey north.'

Joryn says 'I'd love to attend with you of course'

Crenna says 'Oh really?'

Crenna says 'To wear a costume and kiss all the girls?'

Crenna is just too cute.

Crenna says 'Perhaps I misread you earlier.'

Joryn says 'misread?'

Crenna says 'You seemed...surprised.. at the customs in this festival.'

Joryn says 'I come from an isolated farm, I know nothing of such things'

Joryn says 'trips into town for Beltane and such, that was it, and it was never anything like what you described'

Joryn frowns at the table and his hands.

Crenna says 'Well I've only been to this festival once, but it is an experience to remember.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'but you're used to such things, feasts and whatnot'

Crenna says 'Well then. I'm not sure yet which day to depart but it will be soon.'

Crenna says 'Indeed.'

Crenna says 'And I'm used to customs both in Mayene and Cairhien.'

Joryn says 'I'm used to mucking stables'

Joryn blushes.

Crenna says 'That is respectful, honest work.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn says 'and I have a hayloft to show for it'

Crenna says 'Everyone starts from somewhere and not all Lords are born -- some are made through hard work and dedication.'

Crenna says 'Perhaps one day you will have a wife and children and will tell them of the value of honest, hard work.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn says 'perhaps'

Crenna says 'I don't mean to imply your preferences or desires of course.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'Many in our Ranks choose not to have families as our campaigns sometimes take us far from the comforts of home and impact the kind of stability many families require.'

Crenna says 'It is of course a personal decision.'

Joryn leans back in his chair, gazing into his cup, 'I believed the stories, that's why I have all of this, and I have a hayloft...'.

Crenna nods slightly.

Joryn glances about the tavern, 'This is perhaps the finest place I've ever been in.'.

Crenna says 'If you will come North with me to my family's country estate you'll see more.'

Joryn says 'your family's estate?'

Crenna says 'Yes, once I arrive in Cairhien, I will need to see my parents.'

Crenna says 'They are eager to sell me on the idea of marrying some wealthy Lord or something I'm sure.'

Crenna says 'I don't care for that though. '

Crenna says 'I don't need a man to define my value and worth.'

Crenna says 'And I prefer integrity to wealth.'

Joryn nods, sitting up a bit straighter.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna returns your smile.

Crenna says 'Well, this is a rare thing, but I start to feel I've run out of words.'

Crenna smiles happily.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Crenna says 'We have certainly talked for quite a long time.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'All of it pleasant.'

Joryn says 'very, as always'

Joryn blushes.

Crenna says 'And so, would you like to take some time, perhaps, to compose your letter?'

Crenna says 'Once you've let me know it's been sent, we could perhaps meet again for what I will call, Adventures in Training.'

Crenna is just too cute.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Shall I take you to the inn? I can send for a scribe if you'd prefer not to write the letter yourself.'

Joryn stands, moving over to stand by you, touching your hand a moment before raising it, bowing as he does to brush the back of your hand gently wit his lips, 'I thank you for the feast, I've not had food this good ever in my life.'.

Crenna smiles and stands.

Crenna embraces you in a warm hug.

Crenna says 'The first of many, my friend.'

Joryn returns your embrace.

Joryn says 'I hope so'

Crenna says 'If you have any concern about your own abilities, trust in me.'

Crenna says 'I will not let you fail.'

Crenna says 'More than that though, I was raised from an early age to read people.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Joryn says 'oh?'

Crenna says 'I know you will do well. You have a good heart and good intentions, Joryn.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna pulls away from the embrace stepping away to hold you out at arm length.

Crenna says 'I know you won't fail.'

Crenna nods.

Crenna squeezes lightly and releases her grip.

Joryn smiles, gazing at you a moment before stepping back.

Crenna says 'I will bring you to the inn now.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'I will also sleep in the inn tonight I think -- feel free to summon me once you've sent the letter.'

OOC: Another day of hours of intense RP. I will post the most interesting sections staring with what transpired when Wingers met Crenna's country bumpkin friend and and applicant, Joryn.

Market Square
The bustling city of Mayene thrives all around here. People are constantly
moving about, crowding the roads that lead in all directions. Tall,
pristine towers rise high into the air, and a large palace lies to the
east. The flagstones here are worn from constant use. All around, shops
with cloth coverings are set up, displaying various wares from all over the
world. The hustle and bustle of this busy city is all around.
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
Some elaborate figurines spew fresh water into a broad basin here.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
An old woman stands here mixing a pouch of herbs.
Lord Aldwyn Cuebiyar a'Ayende is standing here, riding a |1|.bloodstock stallion.
|2|.A Tairen bloodstock stallion stands here, tail swaying with the breeze.
|3|.A Tairen bloodstock stallion stands here, tail swaying with the breeze.
Lord Santino Du Lis, General of Mayene is standing here, riding a Domani razor.
A man is here.
The Mayene town crier stands here, spreading the news.
Joryn Deekin {Winged Guard Applicant} is standing here.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.

Crenna salutes.

Aldwyn looks at Joryn.

Santino looks down at Joryn's feet.

Santino nods in agreement.

Santino says 'No more holes for your toe.'

Joryn offers a salute, flapping sleeve and all.

Santino snaps to attention and salutes Crenna.

Santino grins evilly.

Santino says 'How old are you Joryn?'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn says 'I haven't really kept track'

Santino nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'never really had the time for it'

Santino grins evilly.

Aldwyn nods at Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'I know the feeling'

Santino says 'What's kept you so busy?'

Joryn says 'surviving'

Santino says 'That's only because you have hair that's older than all of us combined Aldwyn.'

A man leaves north.

Crenna looks curious.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Crenna looks at Aldwyn.

Santino grins at Aldwyn.

Santino looks at Aldwyn.

Joryn says 'the land at the farm wasn't very good anyway, and then the droughts, and then the road, sun up was my only real goal'

Santino nods in agreement.

Joryn shrugs his shoulders, wincing slightly as something pops.

Santino says 'I like that. You'll make a good soldier.'

Santino says 'Lord Aldwyn is a master of all trades.'

Joryn nods silently.

Santino says 'I'm just a simple soldier.'

Santino says 'You'll see in time that you and I probably share many viewpoints.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Santino says 'How long have you known this man Crenna?'

Crenna thinks.

Crenna says 'I met him before I enlisted.'

Crenna says 'So almost a year.'

Santino nods slowly.

Crenna says 'I met him on route from Cairhien as I explored my way south. He's been a friend ever since.'

Crenna smiles at Joryn.

Joryn ducks his head and blushes.

Santino grins evilly.

Santino says 'Kept her out of trouble eh Joryn?'

Santino says 'She's a handful.'

Theq bellows 'So... Need to remember how to get out..'

Crenna says 'Is that so?'

Crenna grins.

Santino bellows 'say exit then walk south'

Crenna says 'At least I don't profess love to chairs like another one we know.'

Santino bellows 'then open hiddenpanel and west'

Theq has arrived from the east.

Santino claps Theq on the back.

Santino looks at Theq.

Theq winks at Santino.

Joryn looks confused.

Santino says 'There he is.'

Crenna says 'Speaking of.'

Crenna salutes Theq.

Theq smiles at Crenna.

Santino says 'Theq, have you and Joryn met yet?'

Joryn salutes once more, the torn sleeve ripping a bit more now.

Theq says 'Who's Joryn?'

Theq looks around.

Crenna says 'He is my friend and newest applicant.'

Theq points at an Atha'an Miere sailor.

An Atha'an Miere sailor leaves north.

Theq says 'Him?'

Crenna points at Joryn.

Crenna says 'Yes.'

Theq tilts his head.

Theq says 'Oh...'

Crenna says 'Er, the man I pointed to.'

Theq looks at Joryn.

Joryn is even more confused.

Theq says 'He looks a bit dirty.'

Crenna shoots a dangerous look at Theq.

Santino nods in agreement.

Joryn ducks his head as he frowns.

Santino says 'I expect he'll clean up nicely.'

Santino looks at Joryn.

Theq frowns.

Santino says 'He shows promise.'

Joryn tightens his hands into fists.

Santino says 'And I've seen some...'

Crenna says 'We are all dirty from the activities of the day. We saw battle recently.'

Santino glares at Theq.

Santino says 'more dirty.'

Theq shrugs a little.

Santino says 'I remember an applicant who applied not that long ago'

Theq tilts his head.

Santino says 'Who professed his love of Illian whores.'

Santino grins at Theq.

Theq says 'You? Remember something.'

Theq chuckles politely.

Santino frowns.

Joryn looks up looking from face to face.

-+- removed kill rat spam -+-

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'So why am I supposed to be meeting you, then?'

Santino grins evilly.

Aldwyn stops following Santino.

Santino says 'be right back'

Santino leaves north riding a Domani razor.

Crenna remains silent and flashes Joryn an encouraging smile.

Joryn looks but does not understand.

Theq looks around the square.

Theq says 'Should I, uh...'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'Speak slower?'

Joryn says 'you mean me?'

Joryn looks around.

Theq looks at Joryn.

Theq says 'You. Boy.'

Theq says 'Why. Should. I.'

Joryn growls, a dangerous gleam in his eye.

Theq points at himself.

Theq says 'Be. Meeting. You?'

Theq points at Joryn.

Joryn says 'boy? BOY?!?!'

Santino has arrived from the north, riding a Domani razor.
A gray palfrey has arrived from the north.
A bloodstock stallion has arrived from the north.

Theq says 'Ah, yes, boy.'

Santino issues the order 'fol'.
A gray palfrey stops following Santino.
A bloodstock stallion stops following Santino.

Crenna looks tense.

Theq pats Joryn on his head.

Theq says 'Use your words.'

Joryn grabs the hand and twists it.

Santino grins evilly.

Santino nods in agreement.

Santino says 'Better.'

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Theq slaps Joryn.

Santino frowns.

Joryn lunges at Theq, taking him to the ground, fists flying wildly.

Santino moves between Joryn and Theq, separating them.

Santino says 'Clearly.'

Theq rolls to the side and stands up.

Santino says 'We need something to do.'

Crenna 's lips press in a thin line, but she remains silent.

Theq says 'Mother's milk in a cup!'

Theq says 'Who IS this boy?'

Theq rolls his eyes...sheesh!..

Crenna says 'A friend. Theq.'

Theq casts a glance at Crenna.

Theq says 'Don't you have somewhere to be, woman?'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Santino frowns.

Crenna says 'Not unless you are dismissing me, Drillmaster Spectre.'

Theq says 'I'm sure there's a tree out in the Mirk that needs to be guarded.'

Theq shrugs helplessly.

Santino reaches out and grabs Theq roughly around his collar, pulling him close.

Joryn glares around him.

Santino whispers something to Theq.

Theq frowns.

Santino looks Theq in the eyes and lets go.

Theq mutters, 'Of course, Sir.'

Aldwyn looks Joryn over curiously.

Santino claps Theq on the back.

Santino nods in agreement.

Santino looks at Aldwyn.

Aldwyn says 'That was quite the maneuver with his arm there, Joryn. Where'd you learn that?'

Joryn dusts himself off, ripping off the torn sleeve and throwing it away.

Theq flexes his hand tentatively.

Santino smiles happily.

Joryn says 'dodging clubs, feet, spit, fists, dogs'

Crenna is seething.

Theq glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Joryn frowns darkly.

Aldwyn frowns and nods at Joryn.

Joryn stops shaking, but remains tense.

Aldwyn says 'Yes, people can be quite cruel when they don't understand.'

Theq turns away from Joryn.

Aldwyn puts a hand reassuringly on Joryn's shoulder.

Theq says 'So, Crenna...'

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Theq looks Crenna up and down.

Crenna says 'Well, I am not on duty today and after defending our city with Lord Cuebiyar a'Ayende's and Joryn's help, I am going to retire for the night.'

Theq says 'As you wish.'

Crenna says 'Good night Lord Santino, Lord Aldwyn, and Joryn.'

Theq says 'I'll find one of the serving maids to fetch for me.'

Crenna glares icily at Theq.

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Santino says 'Night Crenna.'

Crenna salutes.

OOC: I'm happy to have received Mosby's permission to post this. I thought fellow Wingers might appreciate the wit we traded back and forth especially concerning one man's love of chairs.

It is 10 o'clock pm, on the 21st day of the month of Choren, year 1091.
According to legend and prophecy, this is the Zunth Turn of the Wheel.

On the Northern City Road
The road through the northern district of the bustling city of Mayene runs
north and south. Further to the north it appears to take a sharp bend,
while it intersects a small plaza to the south. Run-down old buildings line
the sides of the street, with several dark alleys.

Mosby says 'howdy'

Crenna says 'I don't believe we've met.'

Mosby says 'I believe not. Mosby, Ranger of far places. Nice to meet you.'

Mosby shakes Crenna's hand vigorously.

Crenna says 'I am Squadman Crenna Balvari of the Winged Guard.'

Crenna smiles as she shakes your hand.

Crenna feels parched from the hot weather.

Crenna says 'What brings you to our wonderful city?'

Crenna drinks the water.

Mosby says 'It spreads Christmas cheer like no other, plus I admire the climate.'

Mosby looks at Crenna.

Mosby says 'And the lovely sights.'

Crenna smiles.

Crenna looks at Mosby.

Crenna says 'Indeed.'

Crenna says 'Did you require assistance while here?'

Mosby says 'Well, that all depends, I suppose. If you'd have time in assisting my getting to know you better, then by all means.'

Mosby says 'If on the other hand you are busy, I am well enough.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna laughs, a musical sound.

Crenna says 'I have no plans and am off duty.'

Mosby says 'Then in that case, I am on duty.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'The Officers made the duty schedule a bit more forgiving than usual for the holidays.'

Crenna says 'Oh duty? What line of work are you in?'

Mosby says 'Very kind of them, and fortunate for me.'

Mosby says 'Many lines of work, but my primary duty this evening seems to be to get to know you.'

Lightning starts to show in the sky.

Mosby says 'Even the sky thunders and provides a light show for us.'

Mosby winks suggestively.

Crenna says 'Well, I am always happy to meet new people, especially those who enjoy our city.'

Crenna says 'Indeed. With the coming, show, as you call it, perhaps we should move indoors to the tavern?'

Crenna says 'If you don't know the way, I can show you.'

Mosby says 'A pleasant idea, indeed.'

Mosby says 'Please do'

Mosby starts following Crenna.

Crenna beckons everyone to follow her.

Mosby is now a member of your group.

Crenna says 'It's just north, mostly.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'What will you have?'

Mosby says 'It seems a fine enough establishment. Ale, the heartiest your fine city offers.'

Crenna says 'Barkeep, a goblet of wine for me and an ale for the gentleman.'

Crenna now has a wooden goblet.

Crenna now has a mug of ale.

Crenna gives a mug of ale to Mosby.

Mosby grabs a mug of ale.

Crenna motions you over to a table.

Crenna says 'Here is a good spot.'

Mosby says 'After you.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna takes her seat.

Mosby waits for you to be seated before taking a seat himself.

Mosby nods in agreement.

Crenna stops using a full metal helmet and visor.
Crenna stops using a pair of heavy metal gauntlets.
Crenna stops using an enormous double-bladed battleaxe.

Crenna says 'There. Much better.'

Crenna stretches slightly and sits down once more.

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna looks at Mosby.

Mosby stops using a langdebeve.

Mosby looks at Crenna.

Mosby says 'Indeed, much better.'

Crenna says 'Yes, just be mindful of drunks.'

Crenna says 'The other day one gave me a concussion when he threw a rock at me.'

Crenna says 'The innkeeper ensured I stayed awake for a time before declaring me safe to sleep.'

Mosby says 'Oh? Is he here now? I would not have you exposed to such conduct, and would be happy to...escort him out.'

Crenna runs her fingers through her long, dark hair.

Crenna says 'No lasting damage, thankfully.'

Crenna says 'Well the guards jumped to my defence and killed him.'

Mosby says 'thankfully. It would be a crime against art, nay beauty itself, to have you harmed.'

Crenna says 'The guards have my back it seems.'

Mosby says 'Killed, you say? Well, that is certainly proactive of them, at least.'

Crenna looks at you for a time silently, then smiles.

Mosby lifts his mug in toast to the guards.

Crenna says 'We've served together long enough that some of them consider me a younger sister of sorts, I imagine.'

Mosby says 'Buy I would expect nothing less. I have heard nothing but good things of the defenders of your fair city.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I'm happy to hear that our reputation is good where you've travelled.'

Crenna says 'Now certainly you didn't come here just to meet a Mayener woman?'

Crenna winks.

Mosby says 'Rather, say The Mayener woman, and you'd be more accurate.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I am not the only one. '

Crenna chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'And I haven't been enlisted enough to have made a name for myself -- oh no...'

Crenna sighs.

Crenna says 'Did my parents send you?'

Crenna says 'You aren't a Noble/Lord from Cairhien are you?'

Mosby says 'Perhaps, but few could compare, I will wager. But no, fortune has merely smiled upon me. I actually just came to settle some accounts with the innkeeper...long friends we are, but he does like his depts paid.'

Mosby ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna looks relieved.

Mosby says 'Cairhien, you say...'

Crenna says 'I'm glad to hear that then.'

Crenna says 'Yes. My Mother is Mayener, my father is from Cairhien. '

An Elite Winged Guard says 'We have no problems with the Cairhienin.'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'I hear their city is comely, though no city can be more beautiful than Mayene!'

Mosby says 'I am not one, but in the past I have served one, with honor I hope.'

Crenna nods at the Elite Winged Guard.

Crenna says 'Well, my parents are minor nobles themselves and hope to marry me for political gain.'

(Oops...they are minor Lords. Oh well.)

Mosby says 'As for you, I come with no errands from any parents, rest assured.'

Crenna says 'They love me and in their own way want what they perceive is best for me.'

Crenna smiles.

Crenna says 'I am happy to hear that then.'

Mosby says 'They sound like good parents. But, I take it you have other plans.'

Crenna says 'Indeed.'

Crenna says 'My family has a long standing tradition.'

Crenna says 'When one comes of age, we are allowed one year to live our dreams, to find our place in the world.'

Mosby ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Mosby says 'I should be delighted to hear more. You intrigue me.'

Crenna says 'I enlisted with Winged Guard with the desire to show my parents that I can bring glory to our name through moving up the ranks...'

Crenna says '... and not just through marriage.'

Mosby says 'Such a thing will take more than a year...how do they feel about this?'

Crenna says 'Although I'm sure I will make a man very happy as his wife one day, that will be but one of my accomplishments.'

Crenna says 'Well so far I've been promoted to Squadman which should help.'

Crenna says 'I haven't actually spoken to them since I enlisted.'

Crenna says 'But...'

Mosby says 'A promotion well deserved, I have no doubt.'

Crenna says 'The Fest of Lights in Cairhien is soon and they've already paid the dressmaker to make my mask and costume.'

Crenna says 'You're kind to say that.'

Crenna says 'Have you heard of the Feast of Lights?'

Mosby says 'I know the Guards, and I know they are no fools.'

Mosby says 'I have, though I have never been personally acquainted with it.'

Crenna smiles.

Mosby says 'The cities never hold me for long, sadly.'

Mosby looks around.

Crenna looks at you directly.

Crenna says 'It is quite fun.'

Mosby says 'Though some things change.'

Crenna winks.

Mosby eyes you up and down.

Mosby says 'I have no doubt.'

Mosby sips a bit of his ale.

Crenna says 'I've only attended once.'

Crenna says 'Anyway, my parents will expect a status update of sorts when I meet them before the festival.'

Mosby says 'And are you prepared to tell them?'

Crenna says 'I am prepared to tell them of my promotion and the seriousness of the types of tasks I am now assigned, like conducting trade agreements between nations.'

Mosby says 'Tasks of much gravity, it is true, yet will they respect it more than their own wishes, I wonder?'

Crenna says 'That I do not know.'

Crenna says 'In the end, I may choose my own freedom over duty to my family.'

Crenna says 'For now, however, I am hoping to find the middle ground.'

Mosby says 'A bold choice, though I beg you to give it much thought.'

Crenna says 'Indeed. '

Mosby says 'In the end, few dreams can compare to the comfort of one's family.'

Crenna says 'My mother, being a Mayener woman herself, is very... impressive and used to others doing as she wishes.'

Crenna feels parched from the hot weather.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Mosby says 'I imagine she has met a fine match in her daughter.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna laughs.

Crenna says 'You are good with words.'

Crenna says 'For one who spends much time away from cities, you do seem to know people well.'

Mosby says 'Some things come easily when in pleasant company.'

Crenna says 'Now, I'm curious about your skills and interests.'

A bartender locks down the merchandise in his shop and closes up.

Mosby says 'Well, I am not usually the sort to speak of himself...'

Crenna says 'Although I certain enjoy nature, my skills do not lie with survival skills, except the basics.'

Crenna says 'That's a pity to hear that.'

Mosby says 'But in your case, I shall not stand on false modesty.'

Crenna smiles wider.

Crenna says 'Glad to hear it.'

Mosby says 'To remain silent, after all, would be to risk the loss of your conversation, which I won't willingly give up.'

Mosby says 'So, who is Mosby?'

Mosby swirls his ale around absently for a bit, before taking a deep draught.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Crenna waves the barkeep over.

Mosby says 'A simple man, really, little more. Age has, I hope, done more to add to my wisdom than to my gray hairs.'

Crenna whispers in his ear.

Crenna now has a chunk of cheese.
Crenna now has a choice steak.
Crenna now has a choice steak.
Crenna now has a mug of ale.
Crenna gives a choice steak to Mosby.
Crenna gives a chunk of cheese to Mosby.
Crenna gives a mug of ale to Mosby.

Mosby says 'I range far and wide over the land, ever in search of knowledge, yet with little desire to exploit it for any but the simplest of needs.'

Mosby says 'Steak and cheese. A woman after my own heart.'

Mosby says 'Cheers.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna raises her glass.

Crenna says 'It's the least I can do for the pleasure of your company.'

Crenna says 'And you are my guest.'

Crenna says 'Please, continue. I'd like to learn more about you.'

Mosby says 'A toast, to the founder not only of my night's feast, but one who has been a feast for my eyes besides.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I'll drink to that.'

Crenna smiles sweetly.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Mosby says 'You flatter me. Well, what more shall I say?'

Mosby thinks hard.

Mosby says 'My love of the wilds does not prevent me from enjoying the pleasures of civilization, yet it has, I admit, contributed somewhat to a certain reticence regarding the regimentation which comes with being part of an organized body.'

Crenna says 'I can understand that, but that is a shame. I was going to mention how if you were to consider joining our ranks, it would mean I would personally help train you. '

Crenna says 'Not that I'm implying I have knowledge you lack, with your own experience.'

Mosby says 'I've always remained rather alone in my travels. Your Guards are a wonderful body, for whom I have the deepest respect, yet, like so many others, I have a hard time imagining myself as a part of any body which might in any way impede my random treks.'

Crenna says 'That is more than fair.'

Crenna says 'It is important to follow you heart.'

Crenna smiles slightly.

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'If not to join us formerly, it would still be nice to see you when you are in this part of the world.'

Mosby says 'You are too kind, and I would be a fool not to avail myself of further opportunity to spend time with you, and the others as well of course.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Of course.'

Crenna says 'A finer bunch of people you will not be able to find.'

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Mosby says 'Indeed, I would not think of arguing with that.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna falls silent looking into her goblet for a moment.

l in goblet
It's more than half full of a dark liquid.

Mosby tastes a little bit of a choice steak.

Mosby tastes a little bit of a chunk of cheese.

Crenna nibbles a little bit of the steak.

Mosby says 'You seem out of countenance. Have I said something to upset you?'

Crenna says 'Oh not at all.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I suppose I am thoughtful about the upcoming festival.'

Mosby nods in understanding.

Crenna says 'Cairhien culture is quite fascinating.'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'We have no problems with the Cairhienin.'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'I hear their city is comely, though no city can be more beautiful than Mayene!'

Mosby says 'That is a very diplomatic way of putting it, perhaps.'

Crenna says 'I only lived in my parents country home there for a few years...but it was quite the experience.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Mosby says 'It is truly a nation of polarizing opinions. I wonder how you truly feel about it.'

Crenna says 'Well I took from it the sense of duty and following protocols and proper decorum.'

Mosby nods in agreement.

Mosby says 'Aptly put. A very rigid code they follow.'

Crenna says 'And Of course I realize that the people of Cairhien, like my Father, are passionate people, even if they don't always show it to others.'

Crenna says 'Well except during the festival.'

Crenna chuckles politely.

Mosby grins evilly.

Crenna says 'It's like they take all their pent up passions and let them loose for just that one day.'

Crenna says 'And only because they are anonymous. '

Mosby says 'So I have heard. Many people would find such an experience to be...liberating, shall we say.'

Crenna says 'How many other cultures are so...rigid...and yet have a feast day where any man of any rank and regardless of attachments may kiss any woman?'

Mosby says 'Few, I would wager, though I would also imagine that many are those who need no feast to take such liberties.'

Mosby winks suggestively.

Crenna chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'Indeed.'

Crenna says 'Just the other day I heard a tale of one man who got so inebriated that he professed love to a chair.'

Mosby says 'But it is true, an entire year's worth of emotion released in one wild night...it is a wonder the city still stands.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Mosby says 'Well, there are chairs, and then there are chairs.'

Mosby chuckles politely.

Mosby says 'Maybe he was a leg-man.'

Mosby ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna grins.

Crenna says 'I will have to ask him the next time I see him.'

Crenna smiles.

Crenna says 'I take a different path.'

Mosby says 'Indeed, but make sure to keep any unmarried tables at a safe distance...we must think of their virtue.'

Crenna laughs, throwing her head back in delight.

Mosby says 'And what path is that, if I may be so bold as to ask?'

Crenna says 'Well for now I do not drink to excess.'

Crenna chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'I prefer to have my faculties in tact and make wise decisions that I won't regret.'

Mosby says 'Wise of you. Rarely does good come to a lady who falls prey to too many strong spirits.'

Crenna says 'Besides, I would think for most men, holding her hair as she empties the contents of her stomach onto their boots is not attractive.'

Crenna winks suggestively at Mosby.

Mosby chuckles politely.

Mosby says 'Indeed, I learned my lesson after my cobbler's bills got out of hand.'

Crenna says 'Is that so?'

Crenna smiles.

Mosby says 'Now I insist on at least a nominal level of sobriety in the females with whom I spend my time.'

Crenna says 'Well and real men are able to woo a sober woman.'

Crenna says 'Although some prefer to woo chairs.'

Crenna laughs.

Mosby says 'Indeed. And further, why snuff the fire of a true woman's heart with muddy alcohol?'

Crenna looks at Mosby.

Mosby says 'No, keep the strong drinks far from she whom I would woo. I want her to remember my words, not regret her lack of memory.'

Crenna says 'Wisely said.'

Crenna says 'And of course to leave a lasting positive impression.'

Mosby says 'It is for children to ply women with drink, and for men to ply them with pleasures of higher nature.'

Crenna says 'Agreed.'

Crenna says 'So, do you expect to stay in Mayene long before you head out?'

Mosby says 'Rarely have I planned, preferring to follow whatever wind blows. Yet now, I sense a stillness, a calm that seems to call me to stay awhile.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Is that so?'

Mosby says 'Without a doubt.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Well I would appreciate getting to know you better.'

Crenna says 'Some things can't be easily or accurately learned by conversation alone.'

Mosby says 'Rest assured, the pleasure would be all mine.'

Mosby says 'Very true. There is more to a man's mettle than mere words.'

Mosby says 'And a woman's.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I will of course be here, unless on task, and until I take a brief holiday to travel to Cairhien for the celebration.'

Crenna says 'It would please me to hear that you plan to attend yourself.'

Mosby says 'May your tasks meet with success, and your travels be accomplished in safety. I offer my services as escort in the latter, should you wish.'

Crenna says 'Not that we would recognize each other, or course.'

Crenna says 'I would take you up on that.'

Mosby says 'Speak for yourself! no disguise would hide you from my eye.'

Mosby smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I would doubt that.'

Crenna says 'Granted, not every woman uses the same flower water to rinse their hair.'

Mosby says 'A challenge? Well met, I look forward to it.'

Mosby says 'Ahh, so that is the delightful scent which has suffused my thoughts all night...'

Crenna winks.

Crenna says 'I'm glad that you will remember me then.'

Mosby says 'Were I to live another 370 years without the pleasure of your company, I should never forget.'

Crenna says 'What a memory you must have!'

Crenna winks suggestively.

Crenna says 'I know I would recognize you by your words.'

Mosby says 'Well, I sometimes forget minor things....like my name, where I live, such little details.'

Mosby grins evilly.

Crenna says 'I have not ever met anyone as poetic and expressive as you.'

Crenna says 'You can tell a bit about a person by the types of details they do remember.'

Mosby says 'You are far too kind, and your words do more justice to your generosity than to any smalls kill with words I might have.'

Crenna says 'You obviously prefer women to chairs it seems. '

Mosby says 'These days, yes. Youthful indiscretions aside, of course.'

Crenna pats her chair, 'No offense to you, chair. Your hopeful lover will return soon I'm sure.'

Crenna chuckles politely.

Mosby says 'Careful how you pet that chair. For some, the touch merely brings back memories of loss. Her lover of furniture might never come to reclaim her, for all we know.'

Mosby sighs loudly.

Crenna says 'Oh I think based on what I've heard about him, he frequents this establishment often enough. But whether he forsakes this chair for another I cannot say.'

Crenna nibbles a little bit of the steak.

sip goblet
It tastes like mulled wine.

Mosby says 'Bah. In my worst days, I was at least a one-chair man.'

Mosby nods to himself, he must need reassurance.

Crenna laughs.

Crenna says 'What a marvel you are, Mosby.'

Mosby says 'The laxity of morals, to say nothing of the decline in overall woodworking skills of the population, are enough to make me cry.'

Crenna says 'I'm surprised there isn't a long line of girls following you from forest to forest.'

Mosby says 'Nay, I marvel only at my good fortune which has brought someone of such delight to me this evening.'

Mosby says 'Well, there have been a few, but it is admittedly a hard life for any woman.'

Crenna says 'To see you one day, gone the next?'

Crenna says 'A soldier often lives day by day not knowing which day will be our last.'

Mosby says 'Please, think me not so barbaric in my treatment of the fair sex...'

Mosby says 'But, sadly all too often I have had to help wipe back tears of she who has had to hear of my leavetaking, from my own lips at least.'

Mosby says 'But then, I like to think I merely have not yet met the one who can change my wild forest to a quiet garden of home.'

Crenna says 'Hmm I don't understand. Your skills in lovemaking are so bad as to make women cry?'

Crenna winks suggestively.

Mosby falls down laughing.

Mosby says 'Ahh your wit is a delight.'

Mosby says 'I at least hope to think it is otherwise, but that is a judgement a woman can only make for herself...don't you think?'

Crenna says 'I wonder if that is why...the man I mentioned earlier hasn't graduated from chairs to women?'

Mosby winks suggestively at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Of course.'

Crenna says 'Well and like many partnerships, it takes both parties being willing to communicate honestly about their preferences.'

Mosby says 'I fear that your chairwarmer, to make such a term more colorful, seems well content to remain seated where he is.'

Crenna says 'Indeed. And it is not for us to judge otherwise.'

Crenna says 'I am glad he's found happiness, even if he can't be with his chair as often as it may like.'

Re: Crenna tells Joryn about a Mysterious Ranger (Dec. 30, 2015)

Post by Aldwyn » Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:27 pm

Point of view: Crenna
Main character: Joryn
Main character: Crenna

Background: Although I've already posted other logs from this day of marathon RP, I wanted to include this one as well as I was impressed with Joryn continuing to RP on his own while I was 'working on paperwork', e.g., cleaning logs afk. Chronologically, this takes place after crenna-tells-joryn-about-a-mysterious-ranger-dec-30-2015-t81.html and after that when Crenna and Joryn speak with Mosby (not posted).

An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
Joryn Deekin {Winged Guard Applicant} is sitting here on a bench.
The Mayene town crier stands here, spreading the news.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.

Crenna rushes back.

Joryn looks up from his work and sees your approach, he hastily puts away a bit of chalk and a slate.

Crenna says 'I'm so sorry, Joryn. I didn't think I'd be gone that long.'

Joryn drops the book he was looking at and hastily scoops it up.

Crenna notices but doesn't mention it.

Joryn says 'oh, it's fine really'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'It is rather peaceful here.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'it is'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna smiles slightly, but her eyes look to the north.

Joryn looks at Crenna.

Joryn notices and frowns slightly, his shoulders slumping a bit.

Crenna says 'It has been another good day.'

Crenna looks at Crenna.

Crenna says 'I am so glad we'll get to spend more time together.'

Crenna says 'Now that my duties will coincide with training you.'

Crenna smiles at him.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'I want to do well'

Crenna says 'If you don't do well it will be my own failing, not yours.'

Joryn shakes his head.

Crenna says 'As Mosby said, I'm a good judge of character.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'Well I expect great things from you, Joryn.'

Crenna says 'I just wish Aldwyn or Santino were around now.'

Joryn says 'I haven't known many people to judge their character'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn looks at you thoughtfully.

Crenna says 'I am feeling a bit tired.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Not enough to sleep just yet.'

Joryn clambers to his feet.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'But I think I will go to the inn and start compiling notes on the events of yesterday and today. '

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'So as to submit whatever reports I should.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Shall you lead us to the inn?'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'It is good for you to start getting to know your way around the city.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn offers you an arm.

Joryn grins evilly.

Crenna now follows Joryn.

Crenna is now a member of Joryn's group.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles happily.

Reception of the Soaring Hawk Inn
A long hallway leads into dozens of tidy rooms that are constantly cleaned.
A large desk lays against one side of the room, behind which the innkeeper
rents out his rooms to customers. A large fireplace is built into the southern
wall, and warms the room.

A ledger lies on a small stand.
[ obvious exits: D ]
Joryn Deekin {Winged Guard Applicant} is standing here.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.

An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
Freja sur Tayna, the First Ranger of Mayene, watches you closely.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
The innkeeper bustles about, helping guests into rooms.

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'Well done.'

Crenna says 'That's one thing off the list.'

Joryn chuckles politely.

Crenna covers a yawn with the back of her hand.

Crenna says 'Oh dear. So much paperwork to do...and I expect my superiors might be awake an hour or two from now and also want to talk.'

Joryn digs into his beat up pouch for some copper to pay for his room.

Joryn digs around before dumping the contents out, a few coins clinking on the counter.

Joryn leans to whisper to the innkeeper, pushing the coins at him. The innkeeper regards the coins and points up towards the attic. Joryn nods and accepts the worn key.

Joryn stuffs his empty pouch into a pocket with the key.

Joryn glances back at you, hoping you weren't looking.

Joryn blushes to himself as he quickly turns away.

Crenna is quietly reading and making some notes.

Crenna 's eyes watch Joryn above her book when he's not looking.

Joryn excuses himself as he takes his belongings up to the attic, beaming as he returns.

It is 9 o'clock am, on the 25th day of the month of Nesan, year 1091.
According to legend and prophecy, this is the Zunth Turn of the Wheel.

Joryn says 'the innkeeper was kind enough to let me stay the night, on the house, since I'm going to join the guard'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'Only the best wear a Winged Guard's cloak.'
An Elite Winged Guard says 'You'll find the recruiting office just a little north and west of the market square.'
An Elite Winged Guard says 'Lady Berelain can always use more valiant fighters.'
An Elite Winged Guard says 'You'll find the recruiting office just a little north and west of the market square.'

Crenna smiles happily.

An Elite Winged Guard leaves down.

Crenna says 'Happy to hear it, Joryn.'

Joryn smiles happily.

Crenna says 'You deserve a good restful sleep after the events of the past few days.'

Joryn nods, smiling, one that does not reach his eyes.

Crenna says 'Rest well, my friend.'

Joryn sits in a chair near yours.

Crenna looks at you and smiles.

Joryn says 'oh, in time, I thought I would sit here with you for awhile'

Crenna says 'That would be nice.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

An Elite Winged Guard has arrived from below.
An Elite Winged Guard has arrived from below.

Crenna says 'I enjoy your calming presence.'

Crenna flashes you a smile.

Joryn blushes deeply, returning smile full of happiness.

Crenna says 'I hope to get this paperwork done as my report will include words about you and how proud I am of you.'

Joryn blushes.

Joryn says 'I just try to do the right thing, and helping you was, and is, the right thing to do'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'As is helping you, my friend.'

Crenna says 'I will do what I can to ensure you move smoothly through the requirements to enlist.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles happily.

Joryn waits for you to return to your work before taking out a slate and some chalk, peering at a letter written there.

Joryn fumbles with the chalk a bit before getting a proper grip on it, carefully trying to copy the letter.

Crenna glances discretely at Joryn being careful to keep her hand writing notes in a steady rhythm.

Joryn tries to write as quietly as he can, frowning at the letter, carefully copying it again and again.

Crenna focuses on her notes again, a smile of pride with a tinge of sadness on her lips.

Crenna quickly schools her features.

Joryn frowns at his work, carefully wiping his work clean before looking at the letter once more, nodding to himself as he sets to copying it again.

Freja sur Tayna leaves down.

Crenna is careful to appear engrossed in her notes.

Joryn takes out a book, opening it to the first page, peering at the large alphabet printed on the page. He traces a finger slowly over each letter, trying to work out the best way to write each one.

Joryn frowns at the tiny bit of chalk for a moment, reaching into his pocket for his money pouch before remembering that it was empty.

Joryn carefully handles the chalk, fearing to break it as he tries to hold it in the proper way to write.

Joryn peers at the chalk, and then at the pen at the innkeeper's desk.

Joryn watches the innkeeper write some notes, and tries to mimic the way he holds the pen with his chalk.

Joryn frowns at his large fingers trying to hold the small bit of chalk.

Crenna having finished her notes, but not wanting to stop writing, starts writing a diary entry on a fresh page.

Joryn takes out a bit of cloth to carefully wrap the chalk and slate in, putting them in his pack carefully.

Joryn makes sure the slate is padded by his blanket and change of shirt before closing his pack.

Joryn puts the small bock into a pocket in his cloak.

Crenna says 'Well I think I will head for bed in earnest but will ask the innkeeper to wake me should one of the Lords arrive.'

Crenna shuffles her notes into a neat pile taking her time before looking up.

Crenna says 'You need not meet the Lords tonight, however. There will be time for that another day.'

Joryn nods, acting as if he had just been siting there the whole time.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'I think they tend to prefer later hours and so I am often asleep before they arrive.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'unfortunate'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna puts her papers and book away and stands.

Joryn stands and smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'I hope you have a good sleep, Joryn. '

Joryn says 'it has been a pleasure as always my friend'

Joryn bends over Crenna's fair hand and kisses it gallantly.

Joryn says 'and you'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna hugs Joryn.

Joryn embraces you warmly.

Crenna smiles.

Crenna says 'Perhaps tomorrow we'll start your training.'

Joryn says 'I'd like that'

Crenna says 'Me too.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Innkeeper, please ensure Joryn has a hearty breakfast courtesy of the Winged Guards -- he will need his strength when we start training together.'

Crenna winks.

Joryn smiles warmly, his eyes moistening a bit as he quickly turns up the stairs, he turns after composing himself, 'A good night to you my Lady Crenna.'.

Crenna says 'I am not a Lady here Joryn, and I would only want to take a title if I've earned it, which I haven't.'

Joryn says 'well, if you wish, though you are every bit a Lady, title or no'

Joryn grins at Crenna.

Crenna says 'It means much more to work for a title though than to be born as one.'

Crenna says 'But yes, I appreciate your compliment.'

Crenna says 'Now, I must really get some sleep if I'm to be of good use tomorrow'

Crenna smiles.

Crenna says 'A good night to you.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn bows before Crenna.

Joryn says 'until tomorrow then my friend'

Crenna says 'I will sleep well knowing we get to work together tomorrow.'

Joryn blushes slightly and nods. 'As do I.'.

Crenna looks at you and flashes her best smile.

The innkeeper stores your belongings and helps you into your private chamber.

Joryn meets Aldwyn (Dec. 31, 2015)

Lord Aldwyn Cuebiyar a'Ayende is standing here.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
A pretty little girl skips merrily along.
A drunken fool staggers in no particular direction.
Joryn Deekin {Winged Guard Applicant} is standing here.
The innkeeper bustles about, helping guests into rooms.
Crenna smiles.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Joryn bends over Crenna's fair hand and kisses it gallantly.

Crenna smiles at Joryn.

Crenna says 'It's nice to see you, Joryn.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'I hope you slept well?'

Joryn says 'the best I've slept in a long while I think'

Joryn smiles happily.

Joryn says 'and yourself?'

Joryn looks at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Yes, I slept well.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn smiles happily.

Crenna says 'I don't recall any dreams though from last night.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna looks slightly disappointed and then smiles.

Crenna says 'Perhaps that is for the best.'

Joryn says 'Perhaps'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Joryn says 'I don't recall my dreams, I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing'

Crenna says 'I can't say. I don't normally recall mine either.'

Crenna says 'Well, I ended up not doing as much paperwork as I had hoped to last night. I need to catch up, but you're welcome to sit with me as I do.'

Joryn says 'but, dreams are one thing, being awake is far better I think, I don't think I could imagine anything better than times like this'

Joryn realizes what he just said and blushes.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'That's a nice thing to say, Joryn.'

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'This past week especially as been most remarkable and I have been glad to have shared much of it with you.'

Joryn says 'I feel the same way'

Joryn smiles happily.

Joryn offers you a chair, and sits nearby.

Crenna smiles prettily.

Crenna says 'Thanks, Joryn.'

Joryn blushes, gazing at you a bit long.

Crenna arranges her skirt and places her papers on her lap.

Crenna soon becomes engrossed in her work.

Joryn waits a moment for you to get to your work and takes out the chalk and slate, opening his book once more to copy letters.

Joryn writes carefully, the letters coming easier now.

Joryn practices the alphabet a few times and checks his work, nodding in satisfaction.

Joryn carefully cleans the slate and packs the slate and chalk away with great care.

Joryn flips over a few pages in the book, looking at a list of simple words. He silently sounds them out carefully as he traces a finger under each one.

Joryn smiles to himself, stealing looks at you every now and then, blushing to himself.

Crenna writes in an elegant, flowing hand.

Joryn takes out another book on etiquette, flipping to the pictures to study them carefully.

Joryn looks at his clothing and frowns slightly.

Joryn turns to a chapter on clothing, peering at the finery, his face unreadable.

Joryn closes the book and takes out a small knife to trim loose threads from his clothes, frowning at the patches and stitched up holes.

Joryn quickly glances at you to make sure you're not watching and straightens up in his chair, smoothing out his shirt.

Joryn takes out a book of witty sayings, thumbing through to look for ones he can read, glancing at you as he reads them carefully.

Aldwyn yawns and smiles.

Joryn puts his book away quickly and stands to his feet, adjusting his shabby clothing.

Crenna looks up from her paperwork.

Crenna gathers the papers, stands, and salutes.

Aldwyn says 'Greetings, Crenna.'

Aldwyn says 'Is this our new applicant?'

Crenna looks at Aldwyn.

Crenna says 'Indeed he is, Lord Cuebiyar a'Ayende.'

Aldwyn looks at Joryn.

Joryn says 'hello again'

Crenna steps near Aldwyn and leans in for a second.

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'My apology for the formality if it seems stifling, but until I hear you tell him he can call you by Aldwyn, it seems the best approach.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Crenna steps back.

Crenna flashes Joryn a reassuring smile.

Crenna nods at Joryn in approval.

Crenna smiles.

Aldwyn says 'Sorry, just one moment as I'm trying to recall your application letter.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'It is nice of you to take this time, Lord Lieutenant.'

Aldwyn says 'I like to take an interest in all who would join our ranks.'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'You're a farmer then?'

Aldwyn looks to Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'At least you grew up in the trade, I mean'

Joryn says 'well, I was a farmer, I guess I muck stables for now'

Joryn blushes.

Crenna says 'That is good honest work, Joryn, as I told you yesterday.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'A job is a job. At least yours is more honorable then the start I had'

Aldwyn says 'Some of the best people I've known were farmers. Very hard workers.'

Aldwyn says 'Can also be a bit stubborn at times, but that can be an asset as well.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'So you left your farm seeking the glory and battle from the stories?'

Joryn nods, blushing deeply.

Aldwyn smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'As good a reason as why I left my home I imagine'

Joryn says 'the farm was failing, droughts were bad for several seasons'

Joryn says 'I had little choice, but I only knew what I read in the stories, so... here I am'

Joryn blushes.

Aldwyn nods with a smile, "So here you are."

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn grins sheepishly.

Aldwyn says 'Has Lady Balvari spoken to you about the tasks ahead of you yet?'

Joryn says 'A bit yes'

Crenna shoots Aldwyn a slight frown.

Joryn says 'in that she did outline them, but my memory isn't very good'

Joryn blushes.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'Not to worry.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'I'm sure Crenna will be a fine teacher to help you through them'

Joryn says 'She's been very helpful so far'

Aldwyn says 'As well as most any of the rest of us that you see will be more than willing to help'

Crenna looks at Aldwyn for a moment and smiles slightly.

Crenna nods in agreement.

Joryn blushes slightly, limping over to extend his hand to Aldwyn.

Joryn says 'where are my manners, a handshake is the best way to begin a conversation I think'

Joryn blushes.

Aldwyn takes in the limp but doesn't focus on it, reaching out his good hand to shake Joryn's.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'I don't mean to pry, but can you tell me a bit about how that happened?'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Aldwyn nods towards the limp, trying not to make a big deal of it.

Aldwyn says 'I'm only curious, the Winged Guard has room for all.'

Joryn says 'I don't recall, I'm sure the ox stepped on my leg a time or two while plowing the fields, I've had it so long I don't recall when it started'

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn holds up his left arm, revealing the missing hand, "As I said, we have room for all, it's nothing to worry about."

Crenna looks at her hands, with a slight frown.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'and if I may ask, how did that happen?'

Crenna turns a ring on one of her fingers.

Aldwyn breathes in deeply, "Well...that is a long story. Perhaps another time for that one."

Joryn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn glances at Crenna, "Something the matter?"

Crenna says 'I am sorry, my Lord. '

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'It pains me that I have so much and even how my rings could buy him food for a week.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'One moment, I've just remembered something.'

Aldwyn leaves down.

Crenna says softly, 'I'm sorry Joryn. Everything you said was fine.'

Joryn blushes.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Joryn says 'I need no apology from you'

Crenna flashes a kind, reassuring smile.

Joryn bows before Crenna.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'It is exciting, isn't it?'

Crenna says 'That you are starting this new adventure in your life.'

Aldwyn has arrived from below.

Aldwyn looks at Joryn.

Joryn nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn nods to himself, he must need reassurance.

Joryn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna smiles at Joryn.

Joryn turns back to Aldwyn.

Crenna looks at Aldwyn.

Aldwyn says 'I was reminded about a mercenary the Tairens sent recently.'

Aldwyn says 'He was paid rather well for how poor a job he did. Perhaps you could put it to better use.'

Aldwyn gives a soft leather pouch to Joryn.

Joryn starts as his eyes go wide, relief coming over his face briefly before he sets his face a mask once more.

Joryn offers his finest bow, trembling slightly.

Crenna beams a smile at Aldwyn.

Joryn says 'You have my thanks.' in a quiet voice.

Joryn carefully tucks the pouch away deep into his pack.

Aldwyn says 'No trouble at all, as I said was just what the mercenary had on him.'

Joryn puts a soft leather pouch in a backpack.

Aldwyn says 'I figured you could use it to help pay for your rooms. Might make it easier to save what you make at the stables while you're working at the tasks to become a recruit.'

Joryn nods mutely as he straightens.

Joryn says 'my room was my pay for my work in the stables, I think I will continue, the inn's animals and I get along well, I would miss them'

Aldwyn smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'I understand. Then perhaps it will help you with any pieces of gear you find you might need.'

Aldwyn shrugs helplessly.

Joryn glances at his threadbare clothing for a moment and nods.

Aldwyn says 'It is yours to decide what to do with. Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be a better use than it was before'

Crenna 's eyes shines as she smiles at Aldwyn.

Joryn glances at Crenna and blushes, nodding in agreement.

Joryn says 'I am not sure what I would spend such a fortune on, I don't think I've ever seen that much coin'

Aldwyn says 'Just a hint of what can await you if you do well in the Guard'

Crenna continues to remain respectfully silent.

Aldwyn winks at Joryn.

Crenna looks at Joryn.
A tall, broad shouldered man limps by, his back stooped by a life of hard
labor. He is dirty and his arms are covered in scars. He smiles, a twinkle
in his eye as he reaches a calloused hand out.

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn smiles happily.

Joryn says 'then I must do well'

Aldwyn leans in close to Joryn.

Aldwyn whispers something to Joryn.

Crenna averts her gaze.

Aldwyn flicks his eyes towards Crenna.

Joryn glances at Crenna, blushing as he nods.

Joryn coughs, smoothing his shirt, frowning as a stitch comes loose.

Aldwyn says 'There's a tailor on the east side of the city that does good work. Do you know the place?'

Crenna flashes Aldwyn a look and then returns to watching Joryn.

Joryn blushes, nodding as he says quietly, 'They wouldn't let me inside.'.

Crenna rubs her hands down her dress and nods at Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'What?!'

Crenna starts, concern in her eyes.

Joryn says 'I had recently arrived, and was quite... dusty... from the road'

Joryn says 'perhaps they mistook me for a beggar'

Crenna says 'Why didn't you mention this Joryn when I took you to buy this dress yesterday?'

Joryn blushes.

Joryn says 'it... it was my affair'

Crenna says 'Of course. I'm sorry. '

Joryn blushes, nodding.

Aldwyn says 'Well I tell you what. If they turn you away again, let me know.'

Aldwyn says 'That's not the sort of merchants we want in our city'

Crenna nods, darkly.

Joryn says 'it was a most polite kicking out, they didn't get the clubs this time'

Joryn frowns, blushing as he realizes he has said too much.

Aldwyn says 'This time?'

Aldwyn says 'Someone used clubs on you before?'

Joryn glances at his scarred arms, grimacing slightly.

Crenna closes her eyes for a moment.

Joryn says 'it was a long journey here'

Joryn says 'a warm welcome was hard to find, until I met the lady Crenna'

Joryn blushes.

Aldwyn looks to Crenna, then back to Joryn, a fire seeming to light in his eyes for a moment before he closes them and takes a deep breath or three.

Joryn says 'these are dangerous times, I can blame no one for reacting to me as they did'

Aldwyn says 'I am sorry for your troubles till now, Joryn. I assure you that your life is soon to change.'

Crenna nods once, firmly.

Joryn nods silently, looking down for a moment, gazing briefly at his hands.

Joryn stands up straight and nods once more.

Crenna takes a slow breath and waits quietly for Aldwyn to continue.

Aldwyn says 'Do you drink, Joryn?'

Crenna tilts her head, shooting Aldwyn a curious expression.

Joryn says 'I've mostly just had water, ale was a bit too much for my pouch'

Crenna nods, no surprise in her eyes.

Crenna says 'We did share some mulled wine yesterday though.'

Aldwyn says 'I see. Well would you like to adjourn to the Dancing Badger? Drinks are on me tonight as I'd like to get to know you better.'

Crenna says 'As I explained the tasks, my Lord.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Crenna falls silent.

Aldwyn says 'Unless you two were in the middle of something? I realize I may have interrupted things arriving so suddenly'

Crenna says 'No not at all, my Lord.'

Joryn blushes.

Crenna says 'I was working on some paperwork.'

Crenna says 'Joryn kept me company, being quiet so as not to interrupt my concentration.'

Crenna says 'He was very quiet.'

Joryn picks up his pack, a small stack of books falling out, a basic grammar, a book on etiquette, and one of witty sayings.

Joryn blushes deeply as he quickly puts the books back into his pack, trying to hide them.

An Elite Winged Guard bellows 'The criminal Tarak is at Nearing the North Gate of Mayene.'

Crenna tries to catch Aldwyn's eye and shakes her head slightly.

Tarak has arrived from below.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna gets a finely crafted jewelry box.

Crenna holds the bouquet and breathes deeply.

Crenna picks one of the roses from the bunch, handling it with care.

Crenna takes out her diary, and carefully presses a single petal between the pages.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna stops using a gator skin bracer.

Crenna forms the stem slowly bending it with her fingers.

Crenna puts a long-stemmed crimson rose on around her right wrist.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna breathes in deeply again from the bouquet.

Crenna leaves her room, arriving at reception, with the flowers in hand.

Crenna whispers to the innkeeper 'I don't suppose you'd have a vase for these?'

Crenna smiles as the innkeeper walks off and then moments later returns with a vase.

Crenna says 'Thank you. I will store some of these here.'

Barracks of the Winged Guard
Simple beds line the walls of this large room. At the foot of each bed is a
sturdy wooden chest, and several beds have small tables beside them. The
walls are scantily decorated with yellowed maps and a few tattered crimson
streamers. An aging member of the Winged Guard sits on a nearby bed,
polishing a crimson breastplate engraved with a golden hawk. A large iron
furnace stands in the middle of room, although it appears to be relatively
unused.

Crenna carefully hangs one of the lilies and one of the roses to dry.

(Deposits some of the flowers)

The Northern Gate of Mayene
The massive north gate is heavily guarded. Tall iron portcullises protect
the city from attack, and small murder holes above the gate are barely
visible. A small alley leads off to the west, and looks to lead to seedier
parts of town. Tall towers dominate the view of the city to the south. The
stone road here is worn smooth.

An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
A man is here.
An Elite Winged Guard stands here, defending his country with his life.
Lord Aldwyn the Lord Lieutenant is standing here.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.

Crenna looks around the area.

Crenna smiles at Aldwyn.

Crenna walks up to you casually, 'Good day, Aldwyn.'

Crenna looks at a member of the Winged Guard.

Crenna looks at an elite Winged Guard.

Aldwyn smiles at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'Much better now in fact'

Crenna says 'How are you today?'

Crenna smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'I'm well. It's been a quiet day so far.'

Crenna says 'I'm glad to hear that.'

Aldwyn says 'Just a lost Lancer who didn't bring enough supplies that needed help earlier. That's been it.'

Crenna says 'I'm not on duty now, but of course I would help if the city was attacked.'

Crenna nods.

Crenna looks down at her wrist, smiling.

Crenna says 'It seems I have a....mysterious.... admirer.'

Aldwyn walks away from the gate a bit, holding out a hand for you.

Aldwyn looks at Crenna.

Aldwyn smiles at Crenna.

Crenna says 'It's not every day that a woman wakes up to a jewelry box filled with roses and lilies.'

Crenna says 'This mysterious man must like me a lot.'

Aldwyn gives an impish grin. How adorable.

Crenna grins, but looks at the others in the area from time to time.

Crenna says 'At least...'

Crenna says 'Do you think it could be another woman?'

Crenna mocks a gasp.

Aldwyn chuckles politely.

Crenna says 'I suppose I shouldn't assume.'

Crenna is beaming.

Aldwyn reaches out to take your hand and pull you closer.

Aldwyn whispers to you, 'I'm glad you liked it'

Crenna presses lightly against you and smiles.

Crenna says 'They are beautiful. What a kind thing to do.'

Aldwyn says 'Had to make sure you didn't change your mind after another dream or anything.'

Aldwyn grins playfully.

Crenna looks serious, saying, 'I don't see that happening.'

Aldwyn smiles and runs his hand down your arm to your wrist, running his fingers over the rose.

Aldwyn says 'It suits you'

Crenna says 'But, is it too much?'

Crenna keeps her voice low.

Crenna says 'If I ensure others see me happy about a mysterious admirer?'

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'I mean, this way, if people see an extra spring in my step, they will have a ready made explanation.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn whispers to you, 'Clever as usual'

Crenna holds out the bouquet and raises it just so.

Crenna with a quick look around, plants a quick kiss on your lips, hidden by the flowers.

Aldwyn grins evilly.

Crenna blushes sweetly.

Aldwyn whispers to you, 'My, I do believe that's the first time I've seen you blush.'

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'And perhaps not the last.'

Crenna winks at you and then hides her face in the flowers, inhaling their sweetness.

Aldwyn leans in close, whispering into your ear, "I hope not, or I'm not doing my duty correctly."

Aldwyn slides his hand from your wrist to your hand, his fingers trailing over the back of yours.

Crenna looks around.

Crenna says 'I suppose I was more concerned than I need to be?'

Crenna continues in a low murmur.

Aldwyn looks to the guards at the gate, "They're preoccupied with what's coming in to the city."

Crenna says 'Then again, I am not all that worried about even Theq finding out.'

Aldwyn says 'You know neither am I.'

Aldwyn smiles happily.

Aldwyn says 'I think telling Santino alleviated many of my concerns.'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Crenna grins.

Crenna says 'That was so much fun!'

Aldwyn chuckles politely.

Aldwyn says 'He was right though...'

Crenna says 'Oh?'

Aldwyn says 'You did play him like a lute.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'You helped.'

Crenna grins.

Aldwyn says 'You'll make a fine ambassador once you qualify'

Crenna says 'That is a great compliment.'

Crenna says 'I will work hard.... even harder now as your own reputation is on the line perhaps.'

Aldwyn says 'You'll do fine.'

Crenna says 'I only have to watch and learn from you.'

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna looks over her shoulder and takes her hand back.

Joryn has arrived from the south.

Aldwyn inclines his head in greeting to Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'Evening, Joryn'

Joryn limps up, offering a crisp salute, standing a bit straighter in new clothes.

Joryn says 'howdy'

Crenna smiles at Joryn.

Aldwyn looks at Joryn.

l joryn
A tall, broad shouldered man limps by, his back stooped by a life of hard
labor. He is dirty and his arms are covered in scars. He smiles, a twinkle
in his eye as he reaches a calloused hand out.

Joryn shifts a bit in his new boots.

Aldwyn whistles appreciatively.

Aldwyn says 'I like it. The new look suits you.'

Crenna smiles.

Joryn glances as his new clothes and nods.

Joryn says 'it is odd to have 3 shirts now'

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'It takes a little getting used to.'

Joryn nods in agreement.

Joryn sneezes and starts to whipe his nose with his sleeve before feeling his pockets for a hanky to wipe his nose with all proper like.

Crenna looks at one of her fingers.

Joryn tucks the cloth away.

Crenna smiles looking at the flowers she's holding.

Joryn steals a glance at the flowers and frowns for the briefest of moments.

Crenna says 'Joryn, I don't suppose you saw anyone in the inn last night or this morning?'

Crenna says 'I found them in my room when I awoke.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna frowns a bit.

Joryn says 'I did not see anyone I'm afraid, but I wasn't looking for anyone in particular either'

Joryn grins sheepishly.

Crenna says 'I wonder if a suitor sent them...one of the ones my parents hopes I'll marry?'

Joryn says 'I will keep an eye out'

Crenna says 'I wouldn't put it past my parents to have even sent them to me themselves.'

Joryn frowns briefly once more and nods.

Aldwyn says 'That's right, your trip is still coming up to talk to them.'

Crenna says 'Even if to get me in a frame of mind...before seeing them and the suitors soon.'

Joryn says 'you ahh, you mentioned that I might join you on this trip, for the big festival?'

Crenna pauses.

Crenna says 'Yes, I did invite you. Does this mean you're interested in going?'

Joryn says 'I always was yes'

Crenna smiles happily.

Joryn glances at himself.

Crenna says 'You are welcome to join me, but just know that I will have some business to attend to while there without you.'

Crenna says 'But you can join me on the journey and of course at the festival.'

Joryn says 'oh, of course, new experiences though'

Crenna says 'Well if you intend to attend the festival too, you will need at the very least a mask to hide who you are.'

A woman says 'Why, I might ask you the same question.'

A woman pointedly raises her right eyebrow.

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

l woman
An attractive, youthful woman strolls past you with a friendly smile. Her
clothes, of the latest fashions, are well-fitted and eyecatching.

Joryn says 'I suppose I'll have to keep it secret'

Joryn grins evilly.

Joryn says 'surprises and all'

Crenna says 'Indeed.'

Crenna eyes the woman.

Crenna says 'That is a critical part of the festivities.'

Joryn glances about, concentrating on his thoughts for a moment.

Joryn takes out his coin pouch and checks the contents carefully.

Crenna says 'It would be scandalous for people to walk about baring skin and kissing anyone regardless of rank, if they all knew who each person was.'

Joryn ponders that for a moment, still not sure whether or not to believe it.

Crenna says 'It is a time for everyone to be made equal. Well at least that is perhaps an ideal more than a reality...'

Crenna says '... for the best dancers and most revealing costumes tend to garner more interest.'

Joryn glances at himself and then at the two of you without noticing, his shoulders slumping a bit.

Aldwyn says 'What's the matter, Joryn?'

Joryn doesn't realize that he did anything and hmmms in question.

Joryn says 'what do you mean?'

Aldwyn says 'Part of my job is to be skilled at reading people, you just seemed as if something was bothering you just now.'

A woman says 'Oh, I do this and that. Nothing routine.'

Aldwyn peers closely at a woman, trying to figure her out.

Crenna taps her lips in thought while watching that woman.

Joryn rubs the back of his head, thinking for a moment before standing up a bit straighter and carefully schooling his features.

Crenna says quietly, 'I guess she plays the Great Game.'

Joryn says 'it's ahh, it's just all these changes, it's all a bit much to take in all at once'

Joryn looks at Crenna in confusion.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Joryn looks at the woman, and then to Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'It can be a lot'

l woman
An attractive, youthful woman strolls past you with a friendly smile. Her
clothes, of the latest fashions, are well-fitted and eyecatching.

Joryn says 'a word game? like guess what's behind my back?'

Crenna turns her focus back to listening to Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'Is there anything that we could do to help things be a bit more familiar?'

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'We could always show him one of the line dances.'

Joryn looks at his feet briefly, forcing himself to keep his back straight as he raises his head quickly.

Joryn says 'I'll manage, always have somehow'

Joryn offers his best grin.

Aldwyn nods at Joryn.

Aldwyn says 'Commendable, I often feel the same when faced with uncertainty.'

Aldwyn nods at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'That might be a good idea'

Joryn says 'it's a matter of, of...'

Joryn frowns, gathering his thoughts

Joryn says 'a matter of... a-dap-ta-tion, right?'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Aldwyn smiles happily.

Aldwyn nods at Joryn.

Joryn beams proudly for a moment before schooling his features.

Crenna says 'Joryn, would it help if Aldwyn and I showed you how to do one of the dances?'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Joryn says 'oh yes, you mentioned dancing'

Joryn glances at his feet a moment, shaking each one and frowning.

Joryn says 'never did that either'

Crenna says 'Well this dance is easier to learn than other kinds. It's a line dance.'

Joryn says 'a, a line dance?'

Crenna says 'Yes.'

Crenna says 'First, the women form one line.'

Joryn says 'I've seen dancing around the Beltane fires when I managed to make it into town to sell something'

Joryn says 'they didn't do it in a line though'

Joryn looks confused.

Crenna says 'Then the men form a line so that each man if standing in front of one woman.'
Aldwyn whispers something to a woman.

Crenna says 'That is because there are different kinds of dances. This is but one kind.'

Crenna says 'But it is one you can expect to see at the Feast.'

Aldwyn smiles as the woman moves beside Crenna to form a line.

Crenna smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Wonderful.'

Crenna says 'Now Aldwyn, you stand in front of me. And Joryn stand in front of this woman.'

Crenna nods as the women hears and returns.

Joryn stands in front of the woman, offering a slightly awkward, yet somehow fluid, bow.

Crenna says 'That is good.'

Aldwyn moves in front of Crenna, giving a respectful bow.

Crenna curtseys in time with the other woman.

Crenna says 'Now, during the actual Feast... people might... be more enthusiastic.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna says 'But I will show you the steps so you know the basics.'

Crenna says 'First you clasp hands.'

Crenna takes Aldwyn's hand in both her own.

Joryn looks at the woman a moment and takes her hands carefully.

Aldwyn rests the front of his left arm over his own wrist.

Joryn looks very unsure of himself as he mimics the move.

Crenna shows no shyness, considering.

Crenna says 'Now, each person will take about 3 steps forward, raising their hands up high, being careful not to step on each other's toes or knock each other's noses.'

Crenna takes three steps forward, to stand right in front of Aldwyn, their arms raised high.

Joryn watches from the corner of his eye, mimicking the movements awkwardly, bumping into the woman.

Joryn flushes a deep crimson as he apologizes.

Joryn says 'begging your pardon good lady, did I hurt you?'

Crenna says 'Now during the actual dance, people will have been drinking and so they will sometimes bump into each other which is fine.'

Joryn hastily takes his spot across from the now glaring woman.

Crenna says 'Next, we will each take three steps backwards so we are how we started, but remain clasping hands.'

Crenna takes three steps back, her hands out front again, holding Aldwyn's.

Joryn takes steps back, clumsily after the collision, the woman shooting daggers at him as she grumbles about being roped into dealing with a lout with all the grace of a 3 legged ox.

Aldwyn nods encouragingly to Joryn, taking three steps back smoothly.

Joryn glances at his feet once more as he grits his teeth and sets his jaw, determined to get this.

Crenna says 'Next we repeat except this time we swing our hands up and then sideways to fall until they are resting on each side of our legs.'

Joryn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Crenna demonstrates taking three steps forward once more.

Aldwyn takes three steps forward as before, nodding to Joryn to do the same.

Crenna stands close to Aldwyn, their bodies almost touching, hands at their sides.

Crenna watches Joryn.

Joryn watches the others as he steps forward, not watching his own steps as he trips, the stiff new boots unfamiliar to his feet.

Joryn sprawls to the ground with a grunt.

Aldwyn lurches a little, apologizing to Crenna as he bumps into her.

Joryn grunts as the woman takes a kick to his side and storms off.

Crenna says 'No worries, Aldwyn, it happens to everyone at times.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Aldwyn offers Joryn a hand to help him up.

Crenna says 'Oh!'

Joryn scowls as he refuses it, taking his feet as he touches his side.

Crenna says 'Well, perhaps that is enough for now. Really that is most of the dance there.'

Aldwyn pulls back his hand, frowning a bit more.

Crenna frowns slightly.

Aldwyn says 'I'm sorry, Joryn. She was not a very good partner and should not have kicked you.'

Joryn tries to stand up straight, grimacing as he tries to hide his discomfort.

Joryn says 'to be fair, I hit her first, if accidentally'

Crenna looks off to where the woman stormed, her frown deepening.

Aldwyn chuckles politely.

Aldwyn says 'You are a very good guy, Joryn.'

Joryn says 'she's not the first to do so'

Joryn frowns at his now stained shirt.

Aldwyn says 'It can be washed. It's no trouble.'

Crenna watches, but remains silent.

Aldwyn says 'The innkeeper's staff actually have a standing arrangement for applicants to the Guard. If you'd be willing to let them take it for you when you return.'

Crenna shoots a look of gratitude at Aldwyn.

Joryn starts to duck his head and blush but grits his teeth and clenches his fists as he forces himself to stand as straight as he might with his head high.

Joryn says 'it was not caused in the attempt to do what duties I have as an applicant, how should I use such a service for something that happened in off time?'

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Joryn says 'I will pay for it'

Joryn nods to himself.

Aldwyn says 'Will you at least let them bring a washboard and tub to your room where you can do so yourself?'

Crenna says 'Well, either that, or as this was my idea to teach dance, perhaps I should wash it?'

Joryn says 'no, I'll see to it'

Joryn says 'my mistake, I must correct it'

Joryn moves his shabby cloak to cover the stained area.

Joryn tries to look dignified, not succeeding at all.

Aldwyn nods, 'As you wish, just ask the innkeeper if you can use the washbasin and I'm sure they'll be more than happy to let you do it yourself.'

Aldwyn says 'It's hardly the worst a shirt has seen in Mayene.'

Aldwyn smirks.

Joryn says 'the worst shirt you've seen is now on the inn's rag pile where I threw it'

Crenna 's smile freezes, then turns downwards slightly.

Aldwyn frowns, "No not at all, friend."

Joryn just shakes his head as he turns away.

Aldwyn says 'Joryn...'

Aldwyn says 'Are you...'

Joryn takes out his money pouch, peering into it carefully.

Aldwyn says 'Are you happy here?'

Crenna watches, silently.

Joryn doesn't answer as he opens a secret compartment in his pack, his eyes darting around to make sure not too many eyes are watching.

Joryn takes out a selection of coins and puts them in the pouch.

Joryn swiftly seals up the hidden compartment with practiced ease.

Joryn gets a soft leather pouch from a backpack.

Joryn looks at the pouch for a moment as he stands up straight.

Joryn turns and tosses the pouch to Aldwyn.

Joryn gives a soft leather pouch to Aldwyn.

Crenna frowns.

Joryn says 'you will find the same amount of coin you gave me inside'

Aldwyn says 'It's not my coin, but yours.'

Joryn says 'I still owe a debt for the kindness shown, I know not how to repay that'

Joryn glances at himself and then the fine city.

Crenna says 'Kindness is normally given freely.'

Joryn frowns darkly, rubbing his side, turning on Crnnna.

Joryn says softly, with an edge, 'Nothing, nothing is free in this world my friend. You pay, one way or another. The ledger is always balanced in the end.'.

Joryn softens a bit as he bows respectfully to Crenna.

Crenna says 'Then what do I owe for you saving my life?'

Crenna says 'For being a friend? '

Crenna says 'For helping me with so many tasks?'

Aldwyn frowns, stepping aside.

Crenna says 'These were not freely given in friendship?'

Joryn says 'you have shown me that I am what I am, nothing more, nothing less, you have shown me that there is goodness in this world'

Joryn says 'and for that, it is I who owe you a great debt'

Joryn says 'but I am what I am'

Joryn says 'your world is not mine'

Aldwyn steps forward just slightly, "And what is that?"

Joryn says 'I am like a fish trying to walk'

Joryn says 'or a cow trying to fly'

Joryn says 'and I find myself playing the fool trying to change what I am'

Joryn takes out a book of stories from his pack

Joryn flips through the pages, frowning darkly.

Joryn takes a torch and sets fire to the book.

Joryn says 'rubbish, all of it'

Joryn says 'I have heard it said that the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills'

Aldwyn frowns, his eyes becoming moist, "What will you do?"

Joryn says 'who am I to fight what it wished me to be?'

Crenna says 'Joryn, but it's important that you write and live your own story, and not someone elses.'

Joryn says 'do you not see?'

Joryn says 'that is what I have been trying to do here...'

Joryn says 'and to what end?'

Joryn says 'to make a fool of myself and get kicked, Light, at least in a village there are not as many eyes to see that'

Aldwyn says 'Joryn...don't you think the rest of us have stumbled and fell getting to where we are now?'

Aldwyn says 'I fell farther than any man before me...'

Crenna looks slightly guilty.

Theq has arrived from the south.

Joryn shakes his head and turns to leave.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Joryn pauses for a moment as he steps up to Theq.

Joryn places a hard puch straight between Theq's eyes.

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Theq steps back, stunned.

Joryn says 'you spoke ill of my friend in my presence, we are even now'

Aldwyn slips the pouch quietly back into Joryn's pack.

Aldwyn gives a soft leather pouch to Joryn.

Joryn says 'you are lucky I did not gut you for what you said to her fool'

Theq shakes his head, clearing the stars.

Theq says 'I... Uh...'

Joryn drops the pouch and walks off.

Theq looks around.

Joryn drops a soft leather pouch.

Joryn leaves north.

Theq blinks again.

Theq says 'I should... Uh...'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn sighs loudly.

Aldwyn gets a soft leather pouch.

Theq looks around.

Theq says 'Where am I again?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq looks down at his hands.

Aldwyn says 'I think our applicant just resigned his applicancy'

Crenna stares transfixed.

Theq blinks around the square.

Crenna sighs.

Theq says 'Yes... Uh... Sure... Um...'

Aldwyn says 'Although...I do think he'll be fine if he continues to show the assertiveness he did right then...'

Theq rubs his face.

Theq says 'But where am I?'

Aldwyn moves to Theq, grabbing him to offer support.

Aldwyn says 'You ok?'

Theq says 'Oh... Yes...'

Theq says 'Fine...'

Theq waves you away.

Theq says 'Thank you.'

Crenna says 'Aldwyn, I don't know that I can help Joryn.'

Theq looks Aldwyn up and down.

Theq says 'Oh... A Winged Guard.'

Aldwyn waves for a gateguard to bring a stool, setting it behind Theq before sitting him down on it.

Theq says 'Thank you, kind Sir. I'll be fine.'

Theq settles down onto the stool.

Theq pats the stool.

Theq says 'Nice and sturdy.'

Theq says 'I'm sure the world will not spin soon.'

Aldwyn pats Theq on the shoulder, "You'll be fine."

Theq wobbles on the stool.

Crenna frowns.

Theq slips off the stool, onto the ground.

Theq holds onto the ground.

Theq mutters, 'Stop moving...'

Aldwyn leans down towards Theq, picking something off the ground.

Aldwyn holds it up.

Aldwyn says 'Is that a tooth?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Aldwyn holds it closer.

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'Definitely a tooth'

Theq says 'That shouldn't be there, Sir.'

Crenna looks conflicted as she faces North.

Theq says 'I... Uh...'

Aldwyn tosses the tooth to Theq, then moves to Crenna, taking her hand, "I think he'll be ok."

Theq looks around the square.

Theq points at Aldwyn.

Crenna looks surprised.

Theq says 'If you're a Winged Guard. I'm in Mayene?'

Crenna 's features flash showing conflicting emotions.

Theq groans loudly.

Aldwyn nods over his shoulder to Theq, his eyes staying on Crenna though.

Theq murmurs, 'My face is sore...'

Crenna hangs onto Aldwyn's hand tightly.

Aldwyn says 'Yes, you're in Mayene, Theq.'

Theq says 'Oh... Good...'

Theq says 'Demecure can't be here then... Surely...'

Theq murmurs, 'I hope...'

Theq closes his eyes.

Crenna looks North and then focuses on Aldwyn.

Theq says 'If you would be so kind, good man, let me know when the square is up the right way again.'

Aldwyn whispers to you, 'he'll be ok. I think you helped him as much as you could, and more than you know.'

Aldwyn glances at Theq.

Crenna stares in Aldwyn's eyes for a moment, and then nods.

Aldwyn says 'Told him he could handle himself.'

Aldwyn gives Crenna's hand another squeeze before going back to help Theq.

Aldwyn pulls Theq's lip up.

Aldwyn says 'Oooo'

Theq groans loudly.

Aldwyn says 'Yeah, if you see the Wisdom right away they might be able to do something to help that'

Aldwyn says 'Or knowing you we could just take you to the tavern to drink it off?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'I... Uh...'

Theq says 'I don't drink, Sir.'

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq sits up slowly.

Aldwyn steps back.

Aldwyn says 'What was that again?'

Theq tilts his head.

Theq says 'What was what, Sir?'

Aldwyn says 'You say you don't drink?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Not really, Sir.'

Theq rubs his face.

Aldwyn says 'What's the last thing you remember, Theq?'

Theq frowns.

Theq closes his eyes.

Theq says 'Well, Sir...'

Theq says 'I was in Arad Doman...'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'How in the world did I get here?'

Theq looks around.

Crenna looks surprised.

Aldwyn says 'What do you do for a living, Theq?'

Aldwyn frowns.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Living?'

Aldwyn says 'For work'

Theq says 'I was only in Arad Doman a few days. I just left Baerlon.'

A man says 'It's a fine city, a jewel upon the land.'

Theq frowns.

A man says 'I've many friends who've passed through that way recently.'

Theq says 'Work???'

Theq says 'I'm just travelling around, Sir.'

Theq says 'I have no plans.'

Aldwyn frowns.

Theq blinks at Crenna, seemingly noticing her for the first time.

Theq says 'Oh, another Guard.'

Theq smiles at Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'Theq...you're a Winged Guard.'

Theq says 'You're quite pretty.'

Crenna looks at Theq as if he had two heads.

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Don't be silly, Sir.'

Theq chuckles politely.

Theq stands up slowly, leaning onto the fountain.

Theq says 'I've always wanted to see Mayene.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Still don't know how I got here, though.'

Crenna looks concerned.

Theq says 'It's a nice place, is it?'

Crenna says 'Theq, does your head hurt?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq nods at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Would you mind if, I felt it for lumps?'

Aldwyn says 'Have you read about something like this, Crenna?'

Theq shrugs helplessly.

Theq says 'If you must.'

Aldwyn keeps an eye on Theq's eyes as Crenna gets closer.

Crenna says 'I did lots of reading in Cairhien's libraries, but I am not certain.'

Crenna raises a hand to Theq's forhead.

Theq grimaces.

Crenna says 'His temperature feels no different than mine.'

Theq frowns.

Crenna says 'So not a fever.'

Theq says 'I'm sure I'm fine.'

Theq says 'Looks around.'

Theq says 'I apologise, I really haven't introduced myself.'

Crenna says 'I fear you hurt your head, Theq. I will now feel for lumps indicating injury.'

Theq turns to Aldwyn.

Theq says 'Theq's the name. Theq Vicara.'

Crenna gently feels around Theq's head watching him closely for any signs of pain.

Aldwyn says 'We've met'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Yes, Sir, I know. Just now.'

whois theq
Theq Vicara is a human.
A rough-looking man with stubble lining his face. His skin and clothes look
as if they've spent more time outdoors than in. His dark eyes exude an aura
of calm and, perhaps, kindness.

Theq looks at Crenna.

Theq says 'My face is sore.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Why do you keep poking it?'

Crenna says 'Well, I don't feel any lumps.'

Crenna says 'If it's an injury perhaps it is an old one?'

Crenna steps back

Theq says 'Well, I'm glad I'm okay then.'

Crenna says 'No, Theq.'

Theq smiles happily.

Crenna says 'Theq, today's date is the 2nd day of Saven, year 1092.'

Crenna feels parched from the hot weather.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Don't be silly.'

Crenna says 'Does that surprise you at all?'

Theq chuckles politely.

Crenna shoots Aldwyn a meaningful look.

Aldwyn frowns.

Theq says 'That's a few years ahead of me. You must be mad.'

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'I'm sorry, but that's about the extent of what I can think of.'

A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.

Crenna leaves and then returns.

Crenna shows Theq a list of current enemies of Mayene and points out the dates to him.

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Well, no wonder Tear wants to claim you all if you don't know what day it is...'

Theq frowns.

An Elite Winged Guard says 'The best thing that could ever happen is for all Tairen land to slide into the sea after an earthshake!'

Theq says 'Look.'

Theq says 'It's 1086.'

Theq says 'I just got to Arad Doman after I left Baerlon.'

Aldwyn looks at Theq.

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Theq says 'I've been in Bandar Eban for two days, and now I'm here.'

Aldwyn says 'Theq...'

Aldwyn holds out his cape and then points to the one Theq is wearing.

Theq looks at his cape.

Theq says 'Oh...'

Theq says 'You leant me your cloak?'

Aldwyn shakes his head.

Theq says 'Sorry.'

Aldwyn says 'That's yours, friend'

Theq offers the cloak to Aldwyn.

Theq says 'Oh...'

Theq says 'Well, thank you.'

Theq says 'I'll be sure the First is made aware of your help to me.'

Crenna says 'Theq, do you know how...to fight?'

Theq says 'This clothing can't be cheap.'

Theq says 'I...'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Fight?'

Theq says 'Well... My father was a guardsman in Baerlon. He taught me some.'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'Andor is so far away, who cares what happens there?'

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'I think... that if one loses memories they retain their physical abilities.'

Theq says 'But why would I want to...'

Theq frowns.

Theq looks around.

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Theq says 'Demecure IS here... Isn't he?'

Aldwyn says 'who is Demecure?'

Theq says 'I... Uh... Never mind.'

Theq looks around the square warily.

Aldwyn says 'Theq would you mind following me?'

Theq says 'Uh...'

Crenna now follows Aldwyn.

Aldwyn says 'I want to show you something I hope will jog your memory'

Theq says 'Well, I wouldn't refuse a Guard in his own city.'

Theq now follows Aldwyn.

Theq is now a member of Aldwyn's group.
Crenna is now a member of Aldwyn's group.

Aldwyn leaves south.
Theq leaves south.
Crenna follows Aldwyn.

The Throneroom of the First of Mayene
The throne room is resplendent and lavishly decorated. The floor is made of
checkered red and white marble tiles, and the walls are constructed of pure
white marble with gold lines running down vertically about every five
paces. Tall bronze braziers line the path to the throne itself, filled with
small fires. A green silk carpet from across the Aryth Ocean leads up to a
striking gold throne molded with herons up and down its sides. The ceiling
is countless paces high, and thin crystal tubes give off a bright light.
Two massive fern plants grow to either side of the throne, and a red silk
hanging falls rippling down the wall behind the throne. The room is
hundreds of paces wide, and every sound seems to echo.

Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron, the First of Mayene, ponders the situation.

Aldwyn closes the Thronedoor.

Theq says 'I...'

Theq says 'Uh...'

Theq drops his eyes to the floor.

Aldwyn stands near the back with both of you.

Theq mumbles 'Lady First, I...'

Aldwyn says 'Do you remember ever being here?'

Theq kneels solemnly before Berelain sur Paendrag Paeron.

Theq says 'What? I... Uh...'

Theq looks around, carefully avoiding Berelain's gaze.

Theq says 'Of course not!'

Theq says 'I told you... I just left Baerlon.'

Theq says 'I travelled directly to Bandar Eban.'

Theq says 'I stopped in Emond's Field for Bel Tine and then moved on.'

Aldwyn says 'Theq...you are a Winged Guard. You stood here a bit over a year ago and swore your service to the First in this very room.'

Theq looks around.

Theq says 'Well, I...'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'That doesn't sound right.'

Theq frowns harder.

Theq says 'I know!'

Theq lifts his finger.

Theq stands up and walks over to Aldwyn.

Theq pinches Aldwyn on the nose.

Theq says 'I'm dreaming.'

Crenna watches Theq closely

Theq says 'That must be it.'

Theq pokes Aldwyn in the ribs.

Theq says 'And you're not real.'

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq looks to Crenna.

Theq points at Crenna.

Theq says 'And you're much too pretty to be real.'

Theq nods to himself, he must need reassurance.

Theq says 'I'm sure I'll wake up soon.'

Theq folds his arms across his chest.

Crenna looks concerned.

Theq looks around the room defiantely.

Crenna says 'Theq, what proof would you need, to believe that you have lost memories and time?'

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Crenna says 'If you name the proof you would accept, perhaps we will have a starting point to convince you.'

Theq says 'I cannot name what I do not know, m'lady.'

Theq says 'But what I -do- know, was yesterday I was in Bandar Eban.'

Theq says 'Today, I have a roaring headache and I'm in Mayene.'

Crenna says 'Do you truly believe that we would use a different calendar system and date than the rest of the world?'

Theq shrugs helplessly.

Theq says 'I couldn't say, m'lady.'

Crenna says 'And you've never heard of someone hitting their head and not remembering certain details afterwards?'

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Well, I've heard of it.'

Theq shrugs helplessly.

Theq says 'My friend Rollun did that once.'

Theq says 'Hit right on the noggin' by an apple.'

Theq lifts his hand up high and makes a fist.

Theq mimes an apple falling down towards the ground.

Theq says 'Pop! Straight on the head it got him.'

Crenna says 'And don't you think that would be a more likely explanation than for you to magically span the whole world in such a short time?'

Theq says 'Couldn't remember what he had for breakfast.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Well, you found me, m'lady. -Did- I hit my head?'

Aldwyn says 'Of a manner'

Crenna says 'We are merely trying to understand what has happened to you, but I suspect you have.'

Theq frowns.

Crenna says 'I am no wisdom though.'

Aldwyn says 'It was more someone hit you. It was deserved but still quite hard.'

Theq says 'Well, m'lady. I'm quite certain that I would remember you if what you are saying is true.'

Theq says 'Anyway...'

Theq says 'I still have a problem.'

Theq says 'I -was- in Bandar Eban.'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn says 'You most certainly do'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Theq says 'The question is, should I stay here?'

Aldwyn says 'What were you doing there?'

Theq says 'Travelling, Sir. Seeing the sights.'

Theq spreads his arms wide.

Theq says 'Exploring the world.'

Aldwyn says 'There are many sights to be seen here.'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn says 'At least till we can be sure you're ok.'

Theq looks around.

Theq mumbles, 'This place is smaller than Baerlon. I think I saw all the sights between the gate and here already...'

Theq shrugs helplessly.

Theq says 'Well... Arad Doman would be quite a few days ride from here... So... I guess I'm staying for a while.'

Theq frowns.

Aldwyn says 'Possibly weeks'

Theq says 'Tear can't be too far away though? Perhaps I can see the city.'

Aldwyn shakes his head.

Aldwyn says 'You don't want to do that...'

Crenna whispers to a guard, 'Please bring Lord Santino here.'

Aldwyn says 'You're a wanted man there.'

Theq frowns.

Crenna watches Theq with concern.

Theq says 'Why not? I know you have your little war and all... But there's no need to be like that.'

Theq sighs loudly.

Aldwyn says 'You're a wanted man in Tear, Theq.'

An Elite Winged Guard says 'The best thing that could ever happen is for all Tairen land to slide into the sea after an earthshake!'

Aldwyn says 'They will attack you on sight'

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Theq exclaims, 'I've never been to Tear!'

Theq says 'I'm sure I could sort that right out.'

Crenna says 'And they may be incompetent at fighting, but outnumbered you may perish.'

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Aldwyn opens the Thronedoor.

Aldwyn leaves west.
Theq leaves west.
Crenna follows Aldwyn.

The Waiting Room
This room is clearly the reception room for the Palace, easily identifiable
by the rounded shape, comfortable chairs, and the imposing double doors
that lead into the throne room. Several vases around the room are filled
with exotic smelling flowers in bloom.

Theq Vicara is standing here.
Lord Aldwyn the Lord Lieutenant is standing here.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.
A member of the Winged Guard stands here on guard.

Aldwyn closes the Thronedoor.

Santino has arrived from the west.

Theq says 'I'm sure if you just point me in the general direction, I can fix any misunderstandings.'

Santino arches an eyebrow.

Aldwyn says 'Lord Santino'

Theq says 'Ah! Another guard.'

Theq steps forward.

Santino says 'Lord Aldwyn, Crenna.'

Theq says 'Hello there.'

Theq says 'Holds out his hand.'

Crenna looks to Aldwyn.

Theq holds out his hand.

Santino says 'Squad Leader...Theq?'

Aldwyn says 'Theq wants to go sight-seeing in Tear. He has no memory of the last several years.'

Theq says 'Theq Vicara.'

Theq says 'Pleased to meet you.'

Santino arches an eyebrow.

Santino glances towards Aldwyn and then Crenna.

Santino says 'What's going on'

Aldwyn says 'Joryn hit him. Repaying him for the other day.'

Aldwyn says 'On his way out the gates.'

Santino absentmindedly shakes Theq's hand.

Aldwyn frowns.

Crenna eyes widen.

Theq smiles happily.

Crenna whispers to Santino 'Theq is truly injured. This is no joke.'

Theq says 'Now, Sir. These two soldiers tell me I can't leave.'

Theq says 'Can you sort that out for me?'

Theq says 'I wouldn't mind seeing Tear.'

Aldwyn says 'Just that it's not safe for you, not that you can't.'

Santino says 'Afraid not, technically speaking Theq, we kind of own you.'

Theq sniffs sadly.

Santino grins at Theq.

Theq says 'You won't even tell me how to get there...'

Crenna says 'I showed him a list of men wanted by Mayene to show him the dates.'

Crenna says 'He wasn't convinced.'

Theq says 'Look. I told you.'

Theq points at Crenna.

Theq says 'She's pretty enough that I'd remember her.'

Theq points at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'He has the skin of a baby. And I'm sure he shaves his legs.'

Crenna 's concern is very real.

Aldwyn says 'He doesn't remember meeting the first, being a Winged Guard, or even being in Mayene. His last memory is of being in heading for Edmond's Field from Bandar Eban.'

Theq says 'I would definitely remember that.'

Theq turns to Santino.

Theq says 'And you.'

Theq looks Santino up and down.

Theq says 'You kind of look like... Um...'

Theq frowns.

Santino arches an eyebrow.

Theq says 'A caterpillar!'

Santino nods in agreement.

Santino says 'yes'

Santino says 'yes I do.'

Santino nods slowly.

Theq says 'Now. You've all had your fun, but I think I really must go.'

Theq rubs his face.

Santino says 'Hmm'

Theq mumbles, 'Why is my head so sore...'

Aldwyn says 'Crenna tried checking him but I'm afraid her knowledge fell short of being able figure this one out.'

Santino nods in agreement.

Santino says 'I've seen similar cases.'

Santino says 'in battle.'

Santino says 'It's usually temporary.'

Aldwyn says 'And I don't have much experience in treating wounds...'

Santino says 'Did you check his hearing?'

Aldwyn shakes his head.

Aldwyn says 'He's been responding'

Theq says 'My hearing is fine, old man.'

Theq mutters to himself in complete disgust.

Crenna says 'He does complain of a headache. He didn't feel warm to the touch.'

Santino nods slowly

Aldwyn says 'And he did lose a tooth.'

Theq says 'It's all your hearing that's wrong.'

Theq sighs loudly.

Theq says 'I've told you, I'm fine.'

Santino says 'Can you turn your head all the way to the right without turning your body?'

Santino moves his right foot back a step.

Theq says 'Of course I can.'

Santino says 'Well then do it'

Theq looks to the right and then to the left.

Crenna moves a bit backwards.

Theq looks up and then down.

Theq says 'See?'

Santino surges forward and throws a right hook connecting with Theq's jaw.

Theq says 'I'm fine.'

Theq collapses.

Santino says 'He'll be fine now.'

Santino says 'Or worse'

Theq groans loudly.

Santino gets a mug of ale from a backpack.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Aldwyn peers closely at Santino, trying to figure him out.

Santino splaces a little ale on Theq.

Theq mumbles, 'Bloody caterpillar near broke my jaw.'

Santino begins to help Theq up.

Aldwyn says 'Oh and he thinks he doesn't drink...'

Santino gives a mug of ale to Theq.

Theq sits up.

Santino says 'Take a drink of that.'

Theq looks at the mug.

Theq looks at the mug suspiciously.

Theq says 'What is it?'

Santino says 'Go on.'

Santino says 'water'

Theq frowns.

Theq takes a small sip from the mug.

Theq says 'Urgh...'

Theq spits the ale out.

Santino frowns.

Theq sets the mug aside.

Santino says 'I'm out of ideas.'

Theq says 'No, thank you.'

Santino says 'Theq being polite?'

Santino says 'I am now terrified.'

Aldwyn nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'Weird isn't it?'

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Aldwyn says 'Well...'

Theq stands up and steps away from Santino.

Aldwyn says 'There is one other thing that we know Theq liked...'

Crenna says 'I admit there are some improvements in this version, but I hope we can help him get back to normal.'

Aldwyn says 'But we'd have to go to Illian for that...'

A Winged Guard says 'I think you get there by going through Murandy...'

Theq looks at Crenna.

Theq says 'You're very pretty.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'In your imaginary world...'

Theq says 'Were you and I...'

Theq pauses.

Theq says 'You know...'

Theq winks suggestively at Crenna.

Crenna says 'No Theq. I think perhaps you despised me.'

Theq sniffs sadly.

Santino grabs Theq's hand and forces one finger up and all the others down.

Santino nods slowly.

Theq says 'This dream is stupid then.'

Theq looks at his hand.

Theq says 'What are you doing, sir?'

Santino says 'Just a habit of yours.'

Santino releases Theq's hand and walks away with a sigh.

Santino shrugs helplessly.

Santino says 'We need a wisdom'

Theq looks at his hand.

Theq mumbles, 'I feel dizzy'.

Santino wiggles his fingers at Theq and mumbles, 'sleeeeep.'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'I said I'm dizzy, not dopey.'

Theq says 'Now.'

Aldwyn coughs loudly.

Aldwyn slips a powder from beneath his cape and blows it into Theq's face.

Aldwyn says 'That will make him sleep...'

Aldwyn says 'In 3...'

Aldwyn says '2...'

Aldwyn says '1...'

Theq sneezes.

Santino says 'Oh wow..'

Theq lies down and falls asleep.

Aldwyn shrugs helplessly.

Theq snores loudly.

Theq snores loudly.

Theq snores loudly.

Crenna looks up at Aldwyn with surprise.

Theq awakens.

Santino says 'They say sleep is the best medicine?'

Theq yawns.

Aldwyn blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'W-where am I?'

Santino says 'How are you feeling Theq?'

Aldwyn whispers to the others, "I think he still has his tolerance for things..."

Theq looks around.

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Theq sighs loudly.

Santino says 'Where do you think you are/'

Theq says 'I was fine until I had powder blown at me.'

Santino says 'Damn'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'I'm in bloody, Mayene.'

Theq says 'Aren't you sure?'

Theq frowns.

Theq clambers to his feet.

Santino says 'Swearing finally, that's a good sign.'

Crenna sighs.

Santino says 'Maybe you should let him go to Tear.'

An Elite Winged Guard spits over his shoulder.
An Elite Winged Guard says 'That's for the Tairen's greedy eyes upon Mayene!'

Aldwyn says 'It would be some proof'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Santino looks at Theq.

Santino says 'Theq, if you're not a Winged Guard, why are you wearing the cape of the Winged Guard?'

Theq points at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'He said he gave it to me.'

Aldwyn says 'Tried that already'

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Theq says 'I offered it back.'

Aldwyn says 'I did not. I said it was yours'

Theq nods in agreement.

Santino says 'Did you take him to the tavern?'

Theq says 'And I thanked you already.'

Santino says 'and show him his chairs?'

Aldwyn says 'I considered it...'

Theq frowns.

Santino says 'Those vixen will most definitely job some memories.'

Theq says 'I really don't think soldiers should be drinking whilst in uniform.'

Santino says 'the way they just lie there...'

Santino gasps in astonishment.

Aldwyn nods at Santino.

Santino says 'Our poor boy really is gone.'

Aldwyn says 'See how serious this is'

Crenna says 'So now I'm thinking I'm the one who is dreaming.'

Santino nods in agreement.

Crenna says wryly.

Crenna sighs.

Theq looks at Crenna.

Santino now follows Aldwyn.

Santino says 'Shall we Lord Aldwyn?'

Aldwyn says 'We can try the tavern I suppose'

Aldwyn leaves west.
Santino leaves west.
Theq leaves west.
Crenna follows Aldwyn.

Santino says 'Well have a seat lad, try her out.'

Theq looks down at the seat,

Santino gestures towards the chair while taking his own.

Theq says 'I'll be okay.'

Theq frowns.

Theq looks towards Crenna.

Theq says 'This is no place for a lady.'

Theq takes Crenna's hand.

Santino says 'But these are your ladies...'

Theq says 'Perhaps outside?'

Aldwyn boggles at the thought.

Santino says 'Well go on then you two.'

Santino whispers something to Aldwyn.

Crenna takes her hand back and shakes her head.

Theq frowns.

Crenna bends towards Aldwyn's ear.

Crenna whispers to Aldwyn 'Should I kiss him or something?'

Theq wakes to the bar.

Crenna frowns in distaste.

Aldwyn cringes a little, but shrugs.

Aldwyn says 'It may help...if you think you can muster it.'

Theq says 'Do you have any water, my good man?'

Theq frowns.

Santino watches as the entire bar goes silent.

Theq says 'I'll have an apple then.'

Theq buys an apple.

Crenna says 'There's duty...but yikes.'

Theq takes a bite of the apple.

Santino sighs in relief as all resume talking.

Santino nods in agreement.

Crenna says 'I don't know that it would really help...and surely someone else could?'

Crenna looks around.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Theq says 'Someone else could what?'

Aldwyn says 'Entirely up to you'

Theq frowns.

Crenna cringes.

Aldwyn says 'Seems all the barmaids are hiding...or fainted from disbelief...'

Theq frowns.

Crenna rolls her eyes.

Aldwyn says 'And he doesn't remember Alice...'

Theq arches an eyebrow.

Santino says 'Poor, poor Alice.'

Santino shakes his head sadly.

Crenna looks like she's struggling, internally.

Santino says 'Why don't you two go for a walk.'

Theq takes another bite of his apple.

Aldwyn reaches out and puts a hand on Crenna's shoulder.

Aldwyn sighs loudly.

Aldwyn turns quickly.

Aldwyn kisses Theq.

Santino nods at Aldwyn.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Santino says 'beautiful that.'

Theq punches Aldwyn in the arm.

Aldwyn backs up quickly, spitting.

Aldwyn says 'I think I got a splinter...'

Theq spits and wipes his mouth.

Crenna looks shocked, but nods.

Santino mumbles, 'don't ruin it.'

Crenna locks eyes with Aldwyn for a moment.

Crenna says 'For duty then.'

Crenna walks over to Theq, moves his arms, and sits on his lap.

Crenna takes his head into her hands, and kisses him as hard and as deeply as she can.

Theq blinks his eyes innocently.

Aldwyn rotates his arm that got punched a bit.

Aldwyn whispers something to Santino.

Crenna says 'And know never to kiss me and that will never happen again.'

Aldwyn spits the ale back out into the empty mug.

Theq says 'I'm not sure what this 'old me' is.'

Aldwyn takes another drink.

Theq says 'But... I...'

Crenna stands abruptly, looking a bit ill.

Theq says 'You are very pretty.'

Crenna turns to Aldwyn.

Aldwyn offers a mug to Crenna.

Crenna says 'I am fine. But I need a moment.'

Aldwyn gives you a mug of ale.

Theq smiles at Crenna.

Theq says 'Well.'

Theq says 'Steps forward.'

Theq says 'Today has been rather interesting.'

Theq says 'Thank you all for your hospitality.'

Theq says 'But perhaps I should find an inn.'

Aldwyn ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Aldwyn says 'There is one other thing...'

Theq frowns.

Theq says 'Another thing?'

Aldwyn says 'Should we take him to Tear's gates and let him try to enter?'

Theq says 'Perhaps another day.'

Santino nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'There's no denying their reaction to him.'

Theq says 'I've had quite a bit happen already...'

Crenna still looks a bit ill.

Theq trails off and looks at Crenna.

Santino says 'Sleep is probably the best we can do for him for now.'

Crenna says 'No. Theq. Just. No.'

Theq says 'I don't know what's going on.'

Santino says 'Maybe when he wakes.'

Aldwyn gives some coins to Theq.

Theq says 'But if what you say is true, I really wish I remembered at least you.'

Santino grins at Theq.

Aldwyn says 'That should cover your room since I doubt you'll be staying in the barracks.'

Santino raises his mug and grins wider.

Theq looks at the gold.

Crenna says 'Theq, you listen to me. You are a womanizing drunk and you loathe me. I kissed you for duty to Berelain whom I would lay down my life. That is all.'

Theq says 'Thankyou, Sir.'

Theq frowns.

Theq goes to leave.

Theq stops.

Theq turns around and walks back towards Crenna.

Theq stops in front of her.

Aldwyn shakes his head in warning to Theq.

Theq says 'Now you listen to me.'

Santino watches Theq with a twinkle in his eye.

Santino grins evilly.

Aldwyn shrugs helplessly.

Theq says 'Something has happened to me today, and I don't know what it is yet.'

Santino whispers something to Aldwyn.

Theq points at himself.

Crenna says 'I had hoped..if maybe I angered you...'

Theq says 'But this is who I am.'

Crenna says 'Theq, you were horrible to my friend and me the other day...but I would not see you lose yourself like this.'

Crenna says 'No one deserves that.'

Theq says 'And if something changed me along the way and I really have lost time and memories, maybe whatever it was that changed me is something you don't want or need to know.'

Theq says 'Maybe things happened that the old me regrets.'

Theq says 'Maybe. This is a good thing.'

Theq glares icily at Crenna, she feels cold to her bones.

Crenna says 'I will help you if I can.'

Aldwyn says 'That may be true. Probably is, but what we do need is our Drillmaster back.'

Theq says 'I meant what I said. I wish I remembered you.'

Theq says 'The current me would probably like you.'

Crenna looks conflicted.

Santino continues to stare at Theq and grin.

Theq says 'I should go and find that inn. It will probably take me the rest of the day.'

Theq says 'Although, this place isn't that big.'

Santino says 'Crenna, show him the way.'

Aldwyn says 'I'll walk you.'

Crenna says 'We can show you.'

Crenna says 'The thing is...'

Crenna says 'You may have been horrible to me and Joryn, but that was just one night when you were drunk.'

Theq nods at the innkeeper, 'A room for me, thanks.'

Crenna says 'I know that anyone in the Winged Guard would trust you with their lives.'

Theq takes the room key and turns back to Crenna.

Crenna says 'And would throw down their lives to help protect you.'

Crenna says 'Please know we mean you well.'

Crenna says 'We just don't know how to help you.'

Theq walks over to Crenna.

Crenna looks sincere.

Crenna takes a slight step back, nervously.

Theq says 'Honestly, I...'

Theq says '... I don't really know what you're talking about.'

Crenna says 'I know. Perhaps someday you will and we'll get an ale and laugh about the time I kissed you.'

Theq places a hand on your cheek and kisses your forehead.

Theq says 'But thank you. I suppose.'

Theq steps back and walks towards his room.

Crenna says 'Also...'

Crenna says 'Theq.'

Theq says 'Yes?'

Crenna says 'Know that even if you do not get your memories back, you are cared for and have a home here. The Winged Guard are your family through thick and thin.'

A black cat swishes the top of its tail as it watches Crenna.

Crenna salutes Theq.

Theq nods and goes through the door, 'Goodnight Crenna.'

The innkeeper gives Theq an offer.

The innkeeper helps Theq into his private chamber.

Santino claps Garett on the back.

Aldwyn nods and stands.

Garett hugs Santino.

Garett says 'What's up brother?'

Crenna says 'Aldwyn, can you walk me to my room?'

Aldwyn starts following Crenna.

Aldwyn says 'I'll be right back'

Crenna grabs Aldwyn's arm, looking a bit unsteady on her feet.

Aldwyn steadies Crenna.

Garett looks at Crenna.

Garett winks suggestively at Crenna.

Crenna says 'Good night, Santino and Garett.'

Garett says 'She has Lily's 'Tino, what is she trying for here!?'

Crenna whispers as she walks out, 'I almost called Santino father.'

Garett throws back his head and cackles with insane glee!

Santino grins evilly.

Garett says 'Call him Papi, he likes it.'

Crenna looks back.

Santino says 'wow suddenly freezing'

Crenna says 'A mysterious admirer gave them to me.'

Crenna is carrying:
a mug of ale
a pair of ebony-steel plate greaves
[3] a plate of yellow peppers and pork
[3] a long-stemmed crimson rose
[4] a lily

Garett eyes Santino questioningly

Crenna hides a mug of ale.

Crenna leans on Aldwyn's arm as they make they way out of the establishment.

The innkeeper bustles about, helping guests into rooms.
Aldwyn has arrived from below.

Crenna turns to face you.

Crenna says 'Aldwyn... thank you.'

Crenna says 'I'm sure another time I may laugh at the events of tonight...'

Crenna says 'And I knew I needed to follow Duty...'

Aldwyn hugs you tight.

Crenna says 'But you made that so much easier by your own sacrifice.'

Crenna says 'I was torn, more by how you might feel.'

Crenna says 'And you kissing him... well thank you.'

Racquel bellows 'Such a crowd...'

Crenna feels sober again.

Crenna says 'I hear a wisdom has arrived. I should seek my bed so you can help learn what is needed to help Theq.'

Garett bellows 'A city well defended.'

Crenna hugs you tightly.

Aldwyn smirks.

Aldwyn says 'The sacrifices we make for family'

Crenna says 'Now...'

Crenna says 'Before I sleep... can I ask you to make one more sacrifice?'

Aldwyn says 'Of course, for you almost anything'

Crenna says 'Kiss me, if for just a moment, so I can sleep remembering that?'

Crenna smiles slightly.

Aldwyn smiles and steps closer, running his fingers over the rose on your wrist still as he leans in and kisses you slowly, deeply.

Crenna loses herself fully in the kiss.

Aldwyn steps forward more and dips you, holding the kiss.

Aldwyn finally breaks it when he begins to run out of breath, looking down into your eyes.

Crenna smiles.

Crenna says 'Thank you. '

Aldwyn stands slowly, lifting you back up with him.

Aldwyn says 'I am not a jealous man...but I couldn't let him be the only one who's kissed you like that.'

Aldwyn smiles happily.

Crenna says 'That is the what I will remember as I drift off to sleep.'

Aldwyn says 'Sleep well'

Aldwyn smiles and brushes some hair from your face.

Crenna says 'Take care, Aldwyn. Until tomorrow.'

Aldwyn says 'I should go speak with the Wisdom.'

Crenna nods in agreement.

Aldwyn says 'Until tomorrow'

Crenna turns to walk to her room.

Crenna waves.

Aldwyn waves.

The innkeeper stores your belongings and helps you into your private chamber.
