Story where Glynn learns about a lost family heirloom
Point of view: Glynn
Main character: Glynn (always)
Passerby: Nyle

Subsequent parts
Participants: Sarinda, Roberto, Azareth
*******************************************************

Glynn pulled a chair over to one of the tables at the Green Man. He set his horse tack under the table and gingerly let his small frame come to rest on the wooden seat. It had been a long, wet ride, but he was back to the bar he now called home. Gently wiping his copper dagger on the saddle cloth, he called for Woody to bring some cheese and a mug of ale. The barmaids weaved through the tables, expertly avoiding roots that broke through the floorboards here and there, swaying this way and that. Glynn’s deep-set brown eyes closed under his bushy eyebrows. Not quite asleep, he thought, remembered, not quite dreamed, of today's ride through the Black Hills and the Caralain Grass, of the rides through the hills near his parent’s home in Murandy, the smell of the grass, animal dung and growing things. He remembered visits to his grandparents up north as a child, watching his grandmother trim the rose bushes and tame the creepers with those pearl-handled shears. He could see their blades slice back and forth, back and forth, turning the mess of a half-dead vine into a thriving hedge despite the heat of the ever-encroaching Blight. He woke with a start to the sound of a slap. Brother Nyle’s face was bright red, the barmaid wagging her finger, and a mug of ale sat in front of him.

“Dreaming about your grandma’s shear’s again, m’lord?,” laughed the barmaid.

“Don’t call me that! I grew up mucking stables!”

“Yes, and your Meemaw was a gardener for a King! We’ve heard that story a hundred times if we’ve heard it once!”

“And Ryallin says you’re going to be a Lord in truth, before winter is through!” Woody chimed in.

Muffled guffaws sounded through the bar, as the good-natured ribbing started again. Calls of “M’lord Glynn," and “Lord Glynn the Gardener," sounded across the room, as Glynn scowled, wrapped up his cheese, and stormed off to the herb garden to clear his head.

A wild goatstongue vine had worked its way into the flatwort bed again and the ivy was completely out of control. Glynn sighed and grabbed the wood and iron shears from under the bench. He ran his thumb across the edge and scowled. Pulling a slab of blue and yellow stone from the drawer, he got to work.

They were right, of course, but he didn’t see what was so funny about it. His grandparents were gardeners for Al’Akir, as his family had been for generations until his mother left, following a Murandian stableboy to the safety of the south. He felt the edge again and flipped the stone over, working the blades with gentle pressure to remove the burr. You’d think everyone’s family had been murdered by trollocs during the fall of Malkier the way people were comfortable making light of his meemaw’s death! His parents were alive and well, as far as he knew, in a small town just northwest of Lugard. He hadn’t been back there in years, though, and they could burn in hell for all he cared. He slid the two arms of the shears together and began working at the vine. Snip! You don’t keep your son in the dark when his meemaw dies! Snip! I don’t care how young he is or how gruesome the tale! Lop! A gheandin blossom casualty fell at his feet. Glynn set the shears down and stared up at the sky. He was getting worked up again. But what was that circling the treetop?

A hawk landed on the bench with a small tube lashed to its leg. Glynn carefully pulled out a rolled parchment. What was this? News of his meemaw’s shears?! He thought they had been lost forever when the castle was overrun! Glynn rushed back to the Green Man…

Glynn the Gardener, post 2
RP log where Glynn and Sarinda plan and scout for an assault on Thakan’dar
Point of view: Glynn
Main characters: Glynn, Sarinda

Part of a series

***********************************************************************************

Previously, Ryallin shared scouting reports with Glynn about darkfriends searching for a strange item that may impact the balance between blighted and light forests. Glynn makes inquiries and believes an old family heirloom may have something to do with this item. He hears rumors of a dreadguard and a fade discussing this heirloom and becomes convinced that the Ahf’frait horde is involved. He begins scouting parties to prepare for an assault on Thakan’dar in the hopes that he will recover a pair of garden shears. Here he convinces Sarinda to come with him to Thakan’dar to investigate a way to use the one power during such an assault. They journey to Thakan’dar and investigate.

***********************************************************************************

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, let me quickly get some food and I can find a room for us.'

Glynn nods in agreement.

Glynn smiles happily.

Glynn stables his horse and walks through the garden toward the practice yard.

Glynn works on his forms.

Sarinda has arrived from the south, riding a pale destrier.

Glynn smiles happily.

Sarinda nods at Glynn.

Sarinda ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Glynn says "May we discuss this in private? There are eyes and ears everywhere."

Sarinda stops riding a pale destrier.

Sarinda tries to lead a pale destrier.

Lady Sarinda din Rovan is standing here.
A pale destrier has arrived from the north.

Sarinda closes the thickdoor.

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, how can I help you, Glynn?'
Glynn pulls a long tube of birch bark from his pack.

Glynn carefully fingers the edges.

Sarinda puts a mirrored lantern in a belt pack.

Glynn says 'Sarinda Sedai, I recall once travelling north on the dark road with you and into Thakan'dar
on a sortie'

Sarinda smiles knowingly.

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Glynn says ‘We lost a number of people, two Sedai simply burst into flames. I’m told they attempted to reach the source.'

Sarinda's face darkens.

Sarinda mutters something under her breath about the shorebound.
Glynn says ‘And you, bravely, wanted to study that dark place.'

Glynn says ‘It's come to my attention that something of great value to me may be hiding behind those
dark walls, or at least someone information about this thing of value.’

Sarinda arches an eyebrow.

Glynn says 'I have not learned the details, and I won't bore you with the full back story, but I may
need to venture there again.'

Glynn says 'I've been leading small scouting parties.'

Glynn says 'to learn what I can about that accursed city.'

Glynn says 'I even found and... questioned a .. beast of sorts'

Sarinda crosses her arms, frowning.

Glynn says 'not quite a trolloc... very small... '

Glynn says 'no matter... let me just say this'

Glynn says ‘There is a space that feels slightly different, and I am told may allow you to reach the
source.'

Glynn says ‘I would like to see if it can be a temporary resting station with healing and support
when I attempt to retrieve the thing they took from me.'

Sarinda's eyes widen just slightly, her face otherwise retaining its Aes Sedai calm.
Glynn says ‘Would you be interested in traveling with me on a scouting party?'

Sarinda sighs loudly.

Sarinda says 'You are a foolish man, Glynn.'

Glynn nods in agreement.

Glynn says ‘Indeed, the wisdoms say so, quite often.'

Glynn is just too cute.

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Sarinda says 'Very well. The Light knows you will need aid.'

Sarinda says 'I will do this for you.'

Glynn says ‘If I may share, briefly, the stakes. So you know it is not a fool’s errand. There is a tool
that may help make areas that were barren thrive.'

Sarinda blinks her dark brown eyes innocently.

Glynn says ‘It was my grandparents, when they were gardeners in the old kingdom of Malkier.'

Glynn says ‘This is what I am looking for.'

Sarinda presses, 'A tool? What kind of tool? A ter'angreal, perhaps?'

Glynn says ‘Oh, I know nothing of the sort... more of a, well a pair of garden shears.'
Glynn says ‘But they are very nice!'

Glynn says ‘And they seemed to do things they shouldn't... not... well, I don’t exactly know, but perhaps we will learn more about that.’

Sarinda replies, 'You travel into the heart of the Father of Storms' seat of power for...some nice
gardening shears?'

Glynn fingers the rolled birch bark

Glynn says ‘They are VERY nice and my meemaw said they were for me!'

Glynn sniffs sadly. *SNIFF*

Glynn says ‘I miss them both very much'

Glynn says ‘Despite my age.'
Glynn says ‘In any case... '

Sarinda mutters quietly under her breath, 'By my father's heart...'

Sarinda sighs loudly.

Glynn rolls out the bark, revealing a yellowed parchment

In an Apartment
A small shoe rack sits beside the entrance to this private apartment,
apparently the occupant does not approve of scuff marks or dirt being
tracked too far within. The furniture and other furnishings are precise in
their placement, even the woodpile beside the fireplace is arranged in a
specific order.
[ obvious exits: N ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door north: thickdoor
A pale destrier stands here, adorned with the white flame of Tar Valon.
Lady Sarinda din Rovan is standing here.
Glynn fumbles on the floor, licking at the edges... they snap back

Glynn grumbles about certain things.

Sarinda says 'Very well. I will do this, because I know you, and I know your character.'

Sarinda gestures briefly at Sarinda, who now appears more impressive somehow.

Glynn sets an oilstone down on one edge

Glynn says ‘Ok, this, you see.. is a map of Thakan'dar. I am not a map maker, though, so forgive me. It is as well as I could draw it.’

Glynn says ‘You see the walls here, the gates of night here...'

Glynn says ‘This is where the watchers are... be careful of those'

Glynn grumbles about certain people.

Glynn says 'ahh!’

Glynn’s eyes light up.

Glynn says ‘This is what I meant to show you'

Sarinda says 'I will ask that you lead, and if we are attacked in the city, I will need aid opening
doors to help me back outside.'

Glynn says ‘Now, the surprising thing I discovered was that the citadel inside the city'

Glynn nods in agreement.

Glynn says ‘Remind me to mention that in a moment'

Glynn says ‘The citadel, with the strange especially tall fade.. Shaidar Haran, I think'

Sarinda's face darkens.

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Glynn says 'and the Dreadlord Ishamael'

Glynn says 'it is not as scary as you'd expect'

Glynn says 'by some power of the dark one, those commanders of his army are not disturbed by others in
the city.’

Glynn says ‘They cannot cross this spot'

Glynn points to a crossing north of the citadel.

Sarinda tells Glynn ‘The Northern Streets of Thakan'Dar - Before the Citadel?'

Glynn replies to Sarinda ‘That sounds right.’

Glynn says ‘Now, just west of there there is a passage without a door that leads to a sort of sleeping
hall.’

Glynn says 'and what looks like a new addition further in'

Sarinda nods at Glynn.

Glynn says 'one crucial piece of information i learned'

Glynn says 'about the citadel'

Sarinda looks at the map and nods, committing it to memory.

Glynn says 'is that all of this area ...'

Glynn points to the citadel.

Glynn says 'is quite safe.’

Sarinda smirks.

Glynn says ‘Provided you carefully walk by any of the dark one's generals unnoticed!’

Glynn says ‘Of course, the problem is that if we ARE noticed, there is only one exit, Shaidar Haran stands in front of it, and there are several doors that can be used to trap us.’

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Sarinda says 'We will head in, rush to the barracks, and test what you need to test.'

Glynn says ‘I bring up the citadel because there is always a possibility that there will be trouble.’

Sarinda says 'If you are right about this, it could certainly provide crucial intel to assist with
your task.'

Glynn says ‘In fact, there has been trouble on a scouting party before'

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Sarinda says 'I am aware of the risk.'

Sarinda says 'I will embrace the Source before we enter, and channel my Elemental Staff.'

Glynn says ‘But I think the dark one has just not considered a small craft to be any threat'

Sarinda says 'I will not be able to weave inside, or likely I will be incinerated on the spot, other
than the room you describe.'

Glynn says 'by craft I mean... party'

Glynn says 'yes'

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Glynn says 'not the room in front of the citadel'

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Glynn says 'but rather the newly built area north of the sleeping hall'

Glynn says ‘Now, as to getting in and out'

Sarinda says 'I know what you mean. The Shadowspawn barracks in there, yes.'

Glynn says ‘My... '

Glynn says 'skill at fiddling with locks...'

Sarinda smirks.

Glynn says 'is not exactly up to snuff'

Glynn says ‘But, the gates are open at night, and I know how to move us through without being seen'

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Glynn says 'the problem is there is only one way out'
Sarinda says 'It is nightfall now.'

Glynn nods in agreement.

It is 9 o'clock pm, on the 1st day of the month of Amadaine, year 1552.
According to legend and prophecy, this is the First Turn of the Wheel.
The Shadow grows stronger as Teveyl is raised as a dreadlord.

Glynn says 'perfect'

Glynn says 'in haste'

Sarinda says 'I can Locate for Shadowspawn once we get nearer.'

Glynn says ‘But one last thing, which I will mention as we wait in the ways...'

Sarinda says 'And I can sense their presence in our immediate area.'

nod surrender
Glynn nods at her.

Glynn says ‘If you feel a little toasty, don't hesitate to hand things of value over to me. '

Glynn says ‘I will keep them safe for you'

Sarinda grins evilly.

Sarinda raises her right hand to her lips. 'It is agreed, under the Light.'
Glynn dances for the sheer joy of it.

Glynn rolls up the birch paper

Sarinda says 'Let us ride.'

Glynn says ‘I must retrieve my horse from the stables'

Glynn says 'and we will ride!'

They leave the Tower, retrieving horses from the stables, and gathering supplies quickly.

Sarinda follows Glynn down the Tar Valon road south, towards a snarl of brambles.
