Once again traveling to Maerone with a supply run, I came upon an awful sight. I had become used to the stabbings within the city but this was far more than I could have ever imagined.

Maerone's main road comes to a junction here, with the majority of carts
and groups of drinkers taking the westward route to the harbor, although
occasional villagers potter northwards. There are fewer houses in that
direction, interspersed as they are between fields and countryside. All
that is visible to the east are the wooden slats of a shingled cottage, and
the dusty road throught the village continues to the south.

A flatbed wagon rocks back and forth on spoked wheels, pulled by a Domani razor.
A Domani razor stands here, eyes keen and swishing its tail, pulling a flatbed wagon, being ridden
by you.
The dismembered corpse of a beggar is lying here.
The dismembered corpse of a refugee is lying here.
A bruised and bloody leg lies on the ground, torn from its socket. [8]
A shattered arm lies in a bloody red and purple mess. [8]
The dismembered corpse of a refugee is lying here.
The dismembered corpse of a sailor is lying here.

Theresa's eyes widened in horror as she stumbled upon the gruesome scene. The beggar's body was decapitated, and the refugees were gutted like fish. Vomit rose in her throat, and she had to take a moment to compose herself. Theresa could not believe that such a heinous crime could happen in broad daylight.

Her heart raced as she scanned her surroundings for any sign of the perpetrators. What kind of beastly creatures could do such a thing to defenseless people?

Theresa quickly composed herself and sprang into action. She searched for the nearest commander in charge of the patrol, hoping that they could bring the perpetrators of this brutal crime to justice.

When she found the Cairhienien's commander, Theresa was enraged. She berated him for allowing such a violent massacre to occur right under his nose. She demanded to know why the patrol had not done anything to prevent these murders from happening.

The commander was taken aback by Theresa's anger. Yet, he knew she was right. He had failed his duty to protect his town and the people in it. He promised to find the trollocs responsible and bring them to justice.

Theresa could sense that the commander's words were sincere, and she trusted that he would do everything in his power to ensure the safety of their town. With a heavy heart, Theresa left the commander and continued on with her journey, deeply disturbed by what she had experienced.
Theresa then began to pull the wagon towards the abandoned wisdom house, yelling at any civilian that could hear her that supplies were here. As she got to her destination, she looked in her wagon.

More and more people in their raggedy clothes began to gather around. Theresa with a raised but calm voice began saying, ‘Everyone form one strait line. We have enough for most if not everyone here. If I run out of supplies, I will retrieve more. It took the course of the next few hours for everyone to get what was needed. Not only was clothing, food (and cake), and water brought but armor and weapons too. If the Cairhienin government was not to help this town, then they would have to help themselves. Theresa continued handing out equipment throughout the day until all of the people in need were equipped to help themselves. As the final refugee left, she glanced at him

Theresa and the person locked eyes, nodded, and went their own way. Theresa knew this work would never stop and now knew no matter where the future took her, Maerone would be in it.
