Tales of a Brown- part 10 ---&RPaward

Callesa enters the room, closes the door carefully, and turns the key in the lock. Then she weaves a Ward Room weave, to let her know of any intruder. Tear or no Tear, she is not gonna let herself get murdered in her sleep, or at least not too easily.

Exhausted, she falls on the clean and comfortable bed. So much has been happening lately, and she’s been Travelling between Cairhien, Tear, and Tar Valon constantly. The use of the One Power is beautiful but so tiring, even though she has been one of the strong Aes Sedai. And now she’ll have to Travel to Tarabon as well, the time is growing short.

She wouldn’t give up and let it go, it has to be done. How far does the network go? There are so many questions. At least the information from Master Warren should help her recover some of the angreal and ter’angreal, and lead her closer to the source. But there have been no leads on the two disappeared girls with the Spark, very little information on dealing with Compulsion on her eyes and ears, and just the theory of Asmodean being the real power and mind behind Gevarha. The theory that seems to fit and fill so many holes in the picture. How could Callesa face a Forsaken and win or at least survive? It’s better to avoid a direct confrontation, but there have already been many unpleasant surprises on her path.

Suddenly, she remembers the object in the pocket of her cloak. A wave of excitement gets her out of the bed. She rushes to the cloak and takes out the angreal. Yes, it is undeniably an angreal. A very powerful one, enough to be obvious to a trained channeler like her. Even touching such an object wakes a response in her body, a desire to use it, a sort of peaceful tingling, so unique to some objects of the One Power.

At first sight, it is not a strange object, even though such a jewel is definitely not typical of Callesa’s fashion tastes. A massive bracelet of silver, with rather crudely depicted flowers. It could be considered ugly by many. But it is an angreal. One nobody really knows about.

With a smile on her lips, Callesa goes to sleep. Her wards stay calm during the night, nobody tries to intrude tonight.
………………

Meanwhile, far far away, a shy woman in her middle years creates another ter’angreal. She ties the last weaves on the ivory turtle figurine, watches them become one with the object, and puts it on a small pile with a satisfied nod.

She drawls: “Pera is so tired, this is the third one this week, my love.”

A kindly smiling man replies: “What have we spoken about, you don’t need to speak about yourself in the third person anymore, honey. I’ve rescued you from the leash!”

Pera smiles happily and nods. “Yes, Ahndrin. I am so happy with you! And so excited to learn to make new objects, instead of the a’dam!”

Her smile fades out slightly. “But love, when will we finally move far away from them? I am so afraid they’ll find me!”

Ahndrin Felore grins. “They won’t. We have our people in the city, and the Civil Watch and the Panarch are not letting the Seanchan roam too freely in our half of the town. And we need to save up enough for a nice start somewhere else.”

Not entirely satisfied with the answer, Pera lets him hug her and takes comfort in having a man so close to her. Her man, who doesn’t consider her an abomination.
……………………

In the morning, Callesa breaks fast in the inn’s common room. Most people seem to not pay her attention, except for leaving an unusually big room around her table. Enjoying her pie and tea, she receives Defender Brock, with notes from Master Warren. They seem to be extensive. Defender Brock’s writing is surprisingly neat, easy to read, and stylish. He cannot stay longer though, Lady Fuujin expects him to start his guard duty on time. Lists, descriptions, dates, times, prices. Callesa puts the thick envelope to her pack and drinks some more tea. Too bad kaf is not too commonly served here in Tear.

After the breakfast, she rides out of the palisade gate. The guards look just as grumpy as always, perhaps expecting her to stupidly hold a Light Ball. Not today, and hopefully not ever. Far enough to avoid a warrant, but still within the visible distance, she draws from her new angreal. It is a powerful one, she can safely draw so much more now! It is not a sa’angreal yet, but it allows the user more power than any other angreal Callesa has ever seen or held in her hand. Travelling to Cairhien feels almost easy.
