A log in which Callesa Sedai and Lady Aira discuss the current political situation in Cairhien.

point of view:Callesa
main protagonists: Aira and Callesa

Cairhien Intersection
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
Lady Aira Ciarron, Baroness is standing here.
The Cairhien town crier stands here, spreading the news.

You nod at her.

Aira bows before you.

You say 'Good evening.'

Aira says 'Welcome to Cairhien, Aes Sedai.'

You say 'Thank you, Baroness.'

You say 'How is Cairhien today? I've heard of some issues with the graymen lately.'

Callesa frowns

Aira says 'Graymen, Dragonsworn. Aiel to the east, who for now remain quiet, thankfully.'

You nod at her.

You say 'For now.'

You say 'One never knows, what the Wheel weaves tomorrow.'

Aira says 'Indeed. We are still recovering.'

Aira gestures at the topless towers.

A city lamplighter has arrived from the east.

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

A city lamplighter exclaims 'Finally.. Time to relax and have a beer!'

You say 'I see, a lot to be rebuilt.'

Callesa smiles as the lamplighter passes by

Aira says 'The situation is even more dire out east. Many farmers have abandoned their homesteads and now dwell in the Foregate.'
A city lamplighter leaves north.

You say 'The people haven't been broken, that's the most important thing. They may be on the run, but for now they seem to try their best to get through it.'

Aira nods in agreement.

Aira says 'Indeed. I am trying to rebuild the lands the King bestowed upon me when I was raised to Baroness.'

You say 'Do you think the White Tower could do anything more to help? We try our best, but you know it's always been a complicated relation, to help but not to interfere too much. Your King is sometimes rather sensitive about us.'

Aira says 'I have requested another Great Coalition before, should the Aiel breach the Dragonwall again.'

You say 'Some other families have been more open in their relations with us, but we respect the current situation here.'

You nod at her.

Aira nods in agreement.

Aira says 'One would wonder what would've happened if Laman had veered north from Cairhien, instead of south.'

You nod in agreement.

Aira says 'On the one side, that long trek through Tear and Andor allowed the Tower to put together the Great Coalition.'

You say 'Or if he were a less prideful man'

Aira says 'Indeed!'

Aira mutters under her breath 'Men!'

You nod at her.

Aira adds 'Even worse, men in power.'

The blazing sun fades into greyness behind the towers.

You say 'I wonder why your King is so opposed to having an Aes Sedai advisor.'

Aira says 'It may have something to do with Cairhien's relations with the Children.'

Aira says 'They would be ill pleased, I wager.'

You say 'Is it just a distinction from the Damodreds? Or does he really hope the Whitecloaks and similar groups will help him in times of need?'

You say 'The Whitecloaks are not what they used to be, Light be praised. Otherwise we'd have even more troubles due their games with the Seanchan.'

Aira says 'I do not know, although my most recent dealings with the Children were complicated. They refused the ability to the Rising Sun to enter their command post.'

Aira smirks.

You say 'That is interesting. A bold move on their part.'

Aira says 'Indeed.'

You say 'Perhaps they need to be reminded of the importance of mutual respect.'

Aira says 'Their leadership consists of men, I am not sure if any reminder will work.'

You say 'Or perhaps they need a competitor here in Cairhien. Should the White Tower strenghten our ties with the King, it would send a message.'

You say 'Men don't usually understand subtle hints. You need to drag them to a fact and keep them staring right at it for a while.'

You say 'And sometimes also remove distractions. They easily forget the priorities.'

Aira nods at you.

Aira says 'Do you have use for a strength tea, Aes Sedai?'

You say 'I do, Baroness, it is often useful in a battle.'

Aira gets a cup of thready brown tea from an embroidered, cotton shoulder bag.

Aira gives you a cup of thready brown tea.

You say 'Thank you.'

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Aira says 'Those teas do not seem to work on me.'

You say 'Well, you are already a strong woman, both physically and mentally. No need for a tea'

You say 'Except for the tasty ones, to warm you up in the winter.'

Aira nods at you.

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Aira says 'Cairhienin winters can be cold, so close to the Spine.'

You say 'Indeed. And your people will need support, in order to survive.'

Aira nods at you.

You say 'I believe the King won't be able to publicly refuse help for his people in need. Let's see how the Whitecloaks rise to the challenge.'

Aira nods in agreement.

Aira says 'I should retire for a bit. My work demands my attention.'

Aira bows before you.

You say 'It was a pleasure to see you. '

Aira says 'Enjoy your stay.'

Aira leaves west.
