Found an old Wisdom Application --- &RPaward

Post by cael » Sun Mar 05, 2017 3:15 am

1-6 qps, depending on length and quality.

Potential +1 qp: if part of a series: o/x

Total: 2 qps
Also 1 to Dougras for his old contribution.

A little backstory...found this in an email to myself from 2007.

The clanning process ended up not working out for me. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but at the time, Wisdom Apprentices and Applicants were strongly discouraged from PKing. I was pretty active in north PK on Kerry, so I had to talk my way out of my PK activities through RP. Everything was going pretty well, until I got quite angry IRL during an intense RP session, while hammered drunk, defending my PK behavior. I got so pissed off I immediately rescinded my application view mudmail to the clan. I regretted it after waking up the next day with a wicked hangover, but what was done was done.

Anyway, I was pleased with the application letter and thought i'd share it.

*written in the firm handwriting of a man*

To the most Honored Wisdom Council,

We write this letter on behalf of our daughter, Kerry, and we would ask that she be considered for a position as an apprentice to the Wisdoms. We, her parents, believe that she has the qualities needed to be a good and trustworthy Wisdom. She is young yet, and lacks the confidence to write this letter herself, although her desire to become a Wisdom is strong.

In her first 17 years, she has shown an uncanny ability to help those in need and to defend her home from danger. Recently, there has been an influx of Trolloc and Seanchan invaders and we as a family have had to come together to defend our land on several occasions. We believe that our daughter, who carries the hopes and dreams of her family, will find safety with the Wisdoms and the training necessary to live in an Age that is becoming increasingly dangerous.

She has developed the ability to channel and has been going to the Wisdom Selaana for training on a regular basis. Wisdom Selaana has made quite an impression on our daughter. Kerry cannot stop talking about her. When we first found out that she could channel we were nervous for Kerry. You see, the ability to channel is rare in our family, and we considered sending her to the White Tower for training, but Wisdom Selaana has set our minds at ease with her firm hand and sharp eye.

Kerry does not shirk her chores and is not afraid of hard work. Life on the farm is demanding and Kerry has surpassed our wildest expectations. She is always very respectful and gets along well with everyone: young, old and in between.

Being young, she is shy, and takes a while to open up, but once she does it’s all we can do to keep her quiet. She has made quiet a few new friends, and is an able leader as well as a good follower. She works well in groups and alone.

When not working on the farm, she has traveled from Tear to the Blight and everywhere in between. Where ever she goes, she is always willing to lend a hand, share her knowledge, or offer her staff in defense of the weak. She is very eager to learn new things, and is interested in herbal medicines as well as using the One Power to Heal.

*written in a more flowing feminine script*

The husband may disagree with this part, but even he has sense enough to recognize that as wives and mothers, we know that most men are woolheads and need a strong hand to guide them. It is the role of a good woman to gently guide our men when possible, and drag them kicking and screaming when necessary. Although Kerry is naïve still, We (I) hope that she will soon recognize this Creator-given truth soon and be taught how to guide the rougher sex into the sensible, correct course of action that we women know so well. Light knows I’ve tried to show her.

*again written in the firm handwriting of a man*

As we were saying, although we know that Kerry is young and inexperienced, we feel that she has the qualities necessary to perform the duties of a Wisdom and hope that you too will come to meet her and appreciate what she can offer your fine group. We have known Kerry from the moment of her birth, and it is our fondest desire to see her succeed and grow into the strong woman we know she can be, even if that means letting her go. And just so you know, if my wife is any example, she’s be running as village inside a year.

Please accept this letter and our fondest regards.

In the Light,

Merry and Sherry al’Terry

Father and Mother of Kerry (she’s really great!)

Greetings,

For those of you that have not met me, my name is Kerry and I am strongly interested in becoming an apprentice Wisdom. I have had the pleasure of meeting a few of you since my parents submitted my letter of intent and I am excited for what the future holds.

After speaking with Midwife Jessea, I thought it best to write you as a whole in regards to my current status and any blemishes on my record. Please note that Jessea in no way suggested that I take this course of action. She should be free of blame from any potential repercussions that may come of this letter.

In our conversation, Midwife Jessea expressed some concerns with my recent forays up north, specifically those into the Blight. At first, I attempted to defend my actions, and chalked it up to youthful indiscretion. In hindsight, I realize that my actions are inexcusable, and certainly not becoming of a potential Wisdom in training. I would like to apologize personally to Midwife Jessea for my poor excuse and also to apologize to the Wisdoms as a whole for my actions.

The notice posted in my village stated that Wisdom candidate’s should already be acting as we believe a Wisdom should. I have spurned that advice and willingly and knowingly put myself in a situation unbecoming of a Wisdom, and for that I humbly apologize.

I vow from this day forth, under the Light, that while my training is in progress I shall not enter the Blight for any reason. I hope that this can, in some small way, make amends for my poor behavior. The way of a Wisdom is that of healing, not killing, and I will try my best to exemplify that.

I am a person of compassion, not violence. I hope that in the future I can make you all realize this as we get to know each other better.

In the Light,

Kerry al’Terry

I remember Dougras' Wisdom Application...

===========================================
~As you break the black wax seal of a sheep on a tatty letter, a scent of stables and Body Odor arises tickling your nose the back of your throat. It then becomes apparent to you that the messenger pigeon has fallen from the window sill in its seemingly drunken state and is lying on the floor unconscious... The parchment inside reads:

To my most gracious and skillful female friends of the wisdoms,
It has come upon me that of late, a hole has appeared in my life.
A life which started on the harsh lands of Arafel… When my parents abandoned me, it was too early in my life to allow me to recall their faces; I was raised as an orphan in a small town just south of Caemlyn called Kintara. From here I grew up and learnt a few skills killing countless coyote and wretches to the south. I spent my younger years making trouble around the streets of Caemlyn, drunk and foul mouthed. At the age of 19 I met a man of ghastly proportions called Pe at an inn I can no longer recall. He saw something in me I did not, and showed me what I could aspire to. This Brought about the greatest decision of life, which was to join the Red Eagles. I reached my first rank as an Eagle at the age of 30 and have since risen through the ranks up to the rank of a Gold Eagle. From here I spent my time drinking and lazing about, and was demoted to the rank of a Trolloc Dancer for clearing Vodan of all his precious ale, which as you can imagine, angered my brothers.

The life of sleeping in stables, drinking until you believe that a sheep is a woman, and waking up to a “BAAAA” beside you is makes me tired of this life. It is now I wish that my feminine side come out and I join the wisdoms as a fellow sister. I have a good knowledge of herbs, the places they can be found and how to use them. Furthermore I like to help those in need, whether by my blade, or a more civilized manor of council or herbs. Furthermore of the Furthermore, wisdoms parties… Drunken wisdom parties… Women flowing from the sky… And hell, what better way to get into Morrigan’s pants…

~It is at this point you notice that all the references making this applicant possibly male, have been scrubbed out and rewritten to their opposing counterparts to suit a more female person.. You read on:

My training has been thorough and widespread; tracking, bashing, sneaking, drinking, and hiding are all skills I posses. Knowledge of the land also lies in this mind and there aren’t many places I don’t know; from the hot dark regions in Thakan’Dar to the cold icy peaks of Morrigan I can navigate any sized group or army. As for acting as a wisdom, I’m adjusted to conveying a caring attitude, having a calm persona and overall being very polite, whilst at the same time blabbering sly yet articulated remarks between my sisters.

I hope in all seriousness that you consider my application to join your circle allowing me to live a different live to that which I have already lived…

Far from the west, I bid you all farewell, safe journeys and bickering.

-Dougras Aquila of Manetheren,
Trolloc Dancer of the Red Eagles,
Drunken Bastard of the West.

~As you read the end of the letter, the smell of Two Rivers ale arises from the parchment and a small tag of wool has been attached to the bottom of the paper. A sign of good will to be noted~
