Some people with the time (due lack of family, cooperation of job responsibilities, and/or no job) just hit money mobs/smobs and sell gear in Tear and Cairhien a lot. I had 20-30k once for a copper chit but i was in between jobs myself.

That and people start saving up / farming as soon as an auction is over for the next auction.
