Brand new player, need some advice/help

Character name: Rujin , Human Hunter
Greetings everyone! Brand new player to the MUD community here. 48 yrs old from Arkansas that spent many a school day playing text based games back in the 80's. Looking forward to play WOTMUD, but I need some help as this is all new to me. Really hoping to be a strong member of your community...
Problem 1: Discord - My headphones/mic recently were destroyed by a lightning strike (as was my PC). I am getting another headphone/mic soon, but need help joining the discord channel. Someone in game shared the link with me, but it doesn't resolve for me. My discord name is '[101st] K3ySt0rm' #1711. I feel like once I open voice communication this will get a lot easier.
Problem 2: Mudlet. This app is COMPLETELY new to me. I have no idea how to use it, but realize I need it for maps (and other things?). I was linked to this forum topic to help me set up the maps, but the instructions assume I understand how to load maps and scripts. Should I research hw to use Mudlet before trying to install the maps?
* I am getting an error on the Options>Preferences>Mapper tab that says the map format is "16(downgraded). No idea if it should...?
* Dont understand step 4 at all.
* After loading the map in step 2, I have a map window in a right pane, but it shows the location for Arafel, and it's no where near me (and it wont update)
Any help you all can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Download the map stuff from Adaels mudlet dump post. At the top click mudlet then preferences then load in the map file.
I think.

Try the link from the Discord topic:
http://forums.wotmud.info/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=7300
https://discord.gg/pnwPZbb
If you are signed into the discord app it should be simple. The discord is mostly text, I haven't seen anyone using a mic in there yet.
Another option apart from mudlet is a 30 day free trial with cmud:

I find the maps for cmud/zmud to be more helpful. Use this site to find maps and scripts for Cmud:

I tried to add you to my discord list, in case you want to reach out with any questions, but I think you entered your ID wrong. Also FWIW very few of us use mics, and even then its a separate room apart from the main discord chat channel. Feel free to join without a mic and ask whatever questions you have. Don't let Rig scare you off
I believe most players use ZMud or CMud, so you're probably more likely to get help with your requests there.
Taziar (who probably deserves some gold medals) has put together a great guide on Setting up ZMud here:
http://www.wotmudarchives.org/forum/vie ... f=8&t=2467
If you follow this step-by-step it should take about 10 minutes and you'll be good to go.

You shouldn't need to switch away from Mudlet. It works fine for me and several others.
I assume you are referring to these instructions posted by Katherine in a different post:
Katherine wrote:1. download the .dat file from the links Adael posted in another thread. Credit: Groderick and/or Saul?
https:// sourceforge.net/projects/wotmud ... rce=navbar
2. go to mudlet preferences and import the map DAT file
3. download the xml scripts from Adael:.
http: //www .dropbox.com/sh/b5k3mwonr3ap ... P4IUa?dl=0
4. import them as a package, this will add scripts, aliases and triggers to your mudlet profile. The scripts should automatically execute which will cause a map window to appear over the main window.
I believe you actually only need to go to the second link now, as Adael has uploaded the .dat map file along with the others files at that location:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b5k3mwonr3ap ... P4IUa?dl=0
You just need to download all of the files. Then, open Mudlet and (after connecting) go to Settings > Mapper > Press to chose file and load, then navigate to the location where you save the files, and select the WotMUDmap.dat file. Save the changes.
Next, you need to import the scripts and triggers (these are the .xml files in the folder). The link contains a whole bunch of scripts and triggers, but you do not need all of them to get the mapper going. You just need the ones that have 'Mapper' in the file name. For each of those (Mapper Aliases.xml, Mapper Scripts.xml, Mapper Triggers.xml), at the top of Mudlet click on Package Manager, then click Install and navigate to the location of the .xml files. Select the file, and click Open and Ok. Repeat the this process for each of the .xml files that has Mapper in the name.
Then, I would restart Mudlet (make you you tell it to save the profile when exiting), and restart it. Not sure if this step is necessary, but I would do it just in case. Then, log back in, type the 'look' command and the map should move to your location, and you should be good to go from there.
Sometimes the mapper gets confused. If you use the 'look' command it will normally help the map to find where you are. If it still seems confused, you can type 'resetqueue' followed by 'look' and this will usually sort it out.

thank you Raeza. Your instructions worked great until I ran the 'look' command and the map didn't reset to my position. The resetqueue command brought up a Arglebargle, glop-glyf!?! response.
current state is that the map shows on the right but shows me in the throne room.

Hmm the Arglebargle, glop-glyf!?! suggests that either the .xml scripts are not installed, or they are not active. (So, Mudlet doesn't recognise the 'resetqueue' command as meaning anything.)
If they have been installed properly, when you click the 'Scripts' button at the top of Mudlet, you should see a folder named 'Mapper Scripts'. (Along the same lines, if you click 'Triggers' you should see a folder called 'Mapper Triggers', and if you click 'Aliases' you should see a folder named 'Mapper Aliases'.)
If these folders are not there, then they have not been installed. Try repeating the step where you click Package Manager > Install for each of the .xml files that have Mapper in the name.
If the folders are there but have a lock symbol on them, it means they are installed but are inactive. In that case, you just need to click the folder, and then click the 'Activate' button at the top. (The lock should then go away, and things should work.)

I checked again and the xml scripts are installed in the 'Package Manager' folder, but they dont show in the 'Triggers/Aliases/Scripts areas.
