General insight for longblades 2017

Post by Xylan » Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:50 pm

I went ahead and started testing the long blades of 2017. Testing was done on a 19 str, non-master warrior, wimpy, 99% long blades, dismounted, all swords honed and freshly mended. I carefully considered regen ticks as best I could but not perfectly. Damage is based on 50 hits on a naked PC. This is a very simplified test case over a very small sample and does not consider hits to specific body parts. The testing took roughly 7 hours to script, test and put together results. For certain concerns, I've replaced all damage numbers with generic descriptors closely resembling the number (low, medium, high), in relation to the other weapons in the same bundle that I've tested. Send me a PM if you are interested in the real damage numbers from my testing.

2h Longblades Results

Code: Select all

jagged edged - 92 ob, 0 pb, 15.0 wt, low dmg
two-handed - 74 ob, 11 pb, 12.5 wt, very low dmg
claymore - 92 ob, 15 pb, 17.0 wt, medium dmg
wicked scythed - 90 ob, 25 pb, 15.5 wt, high dmg
gargantuan - 78 ob, 13 pb, 18.0 wt, high dmg
colossal - 79 ob, 11 pb, 18.5 wt, low dmg
heron great - 98 ob, 0 pb, 16.0 wt, very high dmg
Synopsis
claymore for high ob, good dmg and good weight (well-balanced)
wicked for high ob and high dmg (heron being a direct upgrade over wicked)
gsword for high weight and good dmg (claymore being a substitute of weight for more ob)
heron for highest ob and highest dmg
colossal for highest weight only
jagged for high ob only

My Grouping/Rating
offense: heron > wicked > claymore
bash: colossal > gsword > claymore
balance: claymore

1h Longblades Results

Code: Select all

brass general - 77 ob, 20 pb, 16.0 wt, medium dmg
oddly longsword - 78 ob, 38 pb, 12.5 wt, medium dmg
ivory gold - 80 ob, 31 pb, 13.5 wt, high dmg
twisted scimitar - 81 ob, 34 pb, 13.0 wt, high dmg
pale steel - 74 ob, 44 pb, 10.5 wt, medium dmg
My Grouping/Rating
offense: twisted
bash: brass
defense: pale steel
balance: ivory

That concludes my testing. There is no "best", the attributes of each weapon are very clearly separated for the most part, and preference is the only deciding factor of which blade you should choose! (Except jagged and broadsword. Don't even bother with those things)

Thanks for the update. I think the parry, weight, and OB numbers will be very interesting to people. Darlana has a systematic method for calculating weapon damage that avoids all the confounding variables that can interfere with how damage is perceived and allows the overall damage to be stated in a method from which conclusions can easily be drawn. Hopefully she'll give us an update soon. FYI - unless its been changed since her update on 7/10 - colossal damage is very nice. We shall see! Would you mind listing what weapons are still "1.5" handed?

Thanks!

Oddly curved longsword was the only sword usable with a shield that switched to 2h when removing the shield.

* S HP:Healthy MV:Tiring > rem shield
You stop using a silver etched shield.
You grip an ivory and gold-hilted longsword with both hands.

* S HP:Healthy MV:Tiring > You shift an ivory and gold-hilted longsword to one hand.
You strap a silver etched shield on your arm becoming very impressive.

Oh, didn't catch that one.

Were they removing the 1.5 hand thing and these two slipped through the cracks, or no?
