I am using MAC OS X Sierra, I recently tried to reinstall. I have some how locked my disk.
I have done all i can using Disk Utility .
I go to reinstall and it says disk locked, google has been confusing and less that helpful, Anyone encountered this before?

Seems like in a nut shell you have to boot the recovery stuff from a flash drive and then the disk utility should work on the hard drive...

Easy solution is hold down command + R and get into disk utility, select the main HD and select File > "Enable journaling" but if you are like me, it was greyed out. What the issue is, you are trying to modify the drive you are currently working on which it doesn't like. You need to create a USB flash installer, then reformate the drive then reinstall. The steps are below
