Is this a myth? Do shields even factor into bash?

I've not done any testing, but I think I bash better with an onyx shield (8 lb) vs etched shield (4 lb) whenever I'm using fblades (usually a ruby, so like 2.5? lbs).
Maybe it's all in my head, but I feel like there's some basis to it.

As long as I can do some testing of Kick. I don't want to side track this thread but I have questions on what effects kick.
