Looks like it’s because you landed bash, they walk in and get an engagement hit, Szyrik got an attack round, then the normal combat round goes off and he dies in the two hits from them before yours has a chance to go through.

Ran up to Fal Dara to assist Finan Gaidin, who was 1v4 inside Fal Dara. Natural lightning weather, so I thought I could help to turn the tide.

Inside the Dog Gate
A small iron gate is built into the wall to the west. This gate is rarely
used and only guarded by a few men. To the east the Keep looms over the
city, and the road to the south leads into the city itself.

As you enter this room, the top of the tower, you can see why the room below
was well lit. The torches mounted on the walls here throw flickering shadows
against the walls, and you can just make out some carcasses hanging from the
high, conical ceiling of this room. To the south and north, you can see
exits out onto a balcony, and on the floor you can see the trapdoor you came
through. The sickening smell of decaying flesh makes you gag.
