Because you just know they would hit Cair a few hours before the hit to get the key, then gtfo of the throneroom as soon as they would be done.

And before someone asks, putting a key on the king wouldn't solve this kind of "everyone died" situation.

brousing through some of history, it's amazing some of the dumb things that are still there 15+ years later.
I had in mind while reading this (i killed a lot of city heads and dark leaders at various times on different characters) mid way through the log that the door wouldnt be locked if it was already closed and i thought oh damn when one of the dark people outside opened it mid fight.
Anything that locks should always have had access to a key or way to unlock from outside. Even a pull sconce type mobol open doesnt have to be instant or spamable.
