WoT show to begin production this Fall!
Re: WoT show to begin production this Fall!
What Moiraine said is that "One of you five" is the one. This is factually true insofar as she's talking to the Edmonds 5 and that of the 5 one of them is indeed the Dragon. I think this is an example of Aes Sedai honesty, not a declaration that it could actually be Egwene or Nynaeve. RJ himself said that the Dragon is specifically a male soul and the Wheel would weave in someone else if it needed a female champion.
Re: WoT show to begin production this Fall!
In The Eye of the World, Moiraine doesn’t mention the Dragon Reborn to any of the Emond’s Fielders, but specifically mentions that it’s all three of the boys who are hunted by the Dark One. After the attack on ef during Bel Tine, it was only supposed to be Rand, Mat, and Perrin traveling with Lan and Moiraine. Egwene was sneaky and demanded to join. Moiraine Wheel-willed her into the party at the last minute.iria wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 7:23 pmDid Moiraine actually mention the Dragon Reborn to the kiddos in the books? Been a while since I read the series from start to finish. Isn't the "cover" that they need to escort Egwene to Tar Valon to begin her training and Nynaeve tags along. I can't remember why Rand, Mat and Perrin end up going as well, but something about seeing the world and not wanting to leave Egwene alone with a Sedai? And they end up up north through some "chance".
Can't imagine them changing the Dragon Reborn, it'd be like Peter Jackson giving the Ring to Peppin, doubt they'll ever deviate that much from the baseline. Hope the actor isn't a complete dud, but I'm loving Rosamunde as Moiraine.

I think 100% it will be Rand. But also 100% they will tease this right to the end for the fans since they really should. Kind of like we know the good guys win at the end but the fun is that it looks impossible. Anything that creates suspense and discussion is good. Doesn't mean the ending will actually change.nooro wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 5:37 pmKeeping the audience guessing is one thing. But if anyone other than Rand becomes the Dragon Reborn, they might as well just have written a completely different story (or a different loop of the wheel where we don't even have these main characters).isabel wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 4:59 pmAnything that keeps the audience guessing is good though. It's such a long series and having all the answers in advance would be bad for suspense building I think. Plus with all the new faces they may want to see how the series plays out and if there's a breakout character that isn't Rand.
If Perrin becomes the Dragon Reborn cause he's portrayed by a better actor, what happens then? Rand becomes the wolf bro? They really can't start building up the characters (and their powers) until much later in the show that case. I mean, the showdown with ba'alzamon is already in the first book.
And as someone mentioned above, if there's a female Dragon, the story would be completely different. The fact that we have a tainted male Dragon is what drives a lot of the plot points (for instance, enmity with the Tower). A female Dragon might as well become Amyrlin.
No, I think this is just misdirection for the audience that hasn't read the books. Anything else would be disastrous for the story (as we know it).

That sure turned sideways quickly. I've limited my online following of the show to some degree due to gender issue arguments taking everything over - good to see these forums not disappoint :p

Again - the showrunner talking through his approach does a lot for me. Noted his "how do you really ever know?" comment re:dragon, seems like maybe they're scrapping the details of the prophecies or maybe the reliance on them. I also really enjoyed his response re:forsaken. I always thought they were some of the neatest potential villains but were hugely underwhelming as written, so hopefully he does something neat with them. And I still love Asmodean. I'd like to see Ba'alzamon or someone be the big bad of S1 rather than just trollocs/fades.

Eh, I’ve seen a half dozen glowing reviews from a whole host of sites. I’m not placing much stock in the reviews before we see the episodes.
Re: WoT show to begin production this Fall!
From the reviews it seems their strategy to adapt the mammoth story to the screen is to leave everything very vague... That is a huge disappointment.
Re: WoT show to begin production this Fall!
The most consistent critique I have seen has been about pacing. Which means the adaption is faithful to the books!
Kidding aside, the positive or mostly-positive reviews really seem to outweigh the negative ones. That or so just haven’t seen a lot of the more negative ones.
I’m excited!!!

Another pretty scathing one, https://variety.com/2021/tv/reviews/the ... 235108135/
I think you nailed it, Ashlee. Most of these boil down to pacing issues and basically say that it is catering to fans but difficult for non-book readers to engage with. I'm good with that :p And pacing was always going to be an issue...people just seem to keep forgetting that.
It sounds like there are probably some small issues like CGI and channeling and there will certainly be changes that frustrate people but the reviews seem pretty good overall to me. Still excited Hoping for a good 1st season to get started and each season gets better.

Re: WoT show to begin production this Fall!
Since we all (mostly) have read the books I think we won't mind pacing issues. But if this is not successful with a general non-book audience, budgets, future seasons, etc will be at risk. So we need this to work for everyone not just us!
