How do we fix this?

Maybe since advertising is a no-no, word of mouth?

Is a 'bring a friend to wotmud' day a viable thing?

I find early mornings quiet.
Afternoons I see 10+, and afternoon - night, upwards of 20.
I have asked everyone I socialize with to join in on the fun, and only 1 has agreed to join us, he is slowly in the create /statting fase as his work schedule doesn't leave much of a window.

I have yet to try it out myself, but have you shown him the new, quick way to get a prerolled playable character?

<generic quote about good old days>

where is wotmud failing where other muds are thriving? what's the cost of getting wotmud sponsored by zuggsoft as a recommended mud?

Years of not listening to the player base, specially when we should of been at our peak 200ish players. Plenty of consensus changes that needed to be made never happened and slowly trickled when the mud is nearly dead. Add on a few silly changes like removing Seandar etc and the general mud population growing older and getting more responsibilities. Muds being a thing of the ancient past, bad marketing etc etc. I do love this game very much, and I'm sure I'll continue to play it even though it's literally only for the pk. But until then if you play League of Legends and aren't one of those Nazi's that has to win all the time and actually cares what division blah blah your in add me Brakar. Help keep me away from the mud for awhile pweeeze :p

I don't think staff wants to advertise, esp. now that Jordan isn't around. I emailed Zugg on 7/26/10 and this is what they did:
We hold a yearly auction in February to determine which icons are preinstalled in zMUD (and CMUD). We take the top 10 bids to choose the icons. The minimum bid is $1000 for a year of icon display, although typically the top ten bids are higher.
If you are interested in getting your name and email address added to the mailing list for next year's auction, let me know.
It's likely changed since then, if Zugg is even around doing that kind of thing, but I don't think staff will want to do it. It is "word of mouth or bust" I'm afraid.
