Australian lag

Does anyone know where the ping spikes for people living in Australia come from? Is there any way to fix it (on my end)?

I typically get a ping of 220, but every now and then it shoots up into the thousands for a few or several hours. I was PKing earlier as usual, went to the bathroom and when I came back the lag had started, that's how sudden the shift can be.

Here's a picture of PK with it, you can see at times it momentarily comes back down to the hundreds, then spikes back up again.

Where are you at Xoco and what kind of internet?

I'm in Sydney atm and running fibre optic, i sit around 204 if i got no downloads or netflix or anything like that going. Before that I was on wireless just from my phone, and yes it was definitely big lag spikes.

Also I dont think you will see anything faster than what I am using in Australia, but I have to say, the stability is what i enjoy, very rarely drops, no spikes that i notice, unless it is the mud server that is lagging

Sometimes i've noticed it does get choppy though I just suspect thats load on Australias ancient telecommmunications infrastructure.

I've played on 40 ms before and it's genuinely confusing. There's no delay in commands, everything you input goes through *immediately*, like you're two steps ahead of everyone else, it's kind of ridiculous. Carrying around a weighted backpack all day and then taking it off and suddenly feeling light as a birdie is kind of a comparable feeling. Anyway, I'm on NBN, and live alone so I have no netflix troubles, but I use wireless throughout the house so that slows it down a little. These spikes aren't to do with the speed of my connection, when I was pinging 4k on client everything else was running as fast as usual, which is how I knew it was strictly a problem with the connection between MUD server and Australia (maybe other countries??).
