Forresters, The Future, and Activity.

Some of you may know me, some may even have a faint recollection of my name. I'm from an age before this one, the age of legends perhaps. An age where the mud saw 300 people on at once, three races full of RPers, PKers, exploration, excitement... family.

I started in the mid 90's, back when the mud was not 30 years old.... good lord 30 years. I played for a long time, I started and we have 10-30 active people, no Seanchan race, the mud was so much smaller back then. Within 5 years we blossomed to 200, then 300. Then we crashed, hard. For the first time. Months went by, the addiction set in. We stood and waited on IRC, we lost some people. Others over time woke from the dream, we that knew them keep them in our memories.

Eventually the MUD came back, we stabilized. Then we crashed again. At this point my life went crazy and I had to be an adult, I left. I thought about this place from time to time, checking the forums to see if it was still here, and somehow it was. Years went by, two years ago I tried coming back but life yet again had other plans. Now I've returned again, hopefully I'll be here for a long time.

I'm on discord folks, Jin Al'toreth. Please if you want to chat contact me, or even send an mail here or catch me ingame.

What I'm saying is it's time we slowly start to bring back activity, it will take time. But activity breeds activity.

Also if you have a Forrester and are not in our channel on discord please send me word. I would like to get groups of us leading people again and helping out once more. Some of the most fun I ever had were with smob groups 20+ in size running around.

I enjoy seeing some players I vaguely remember from the early 2000s return. It's good for some nostalgia. That being said, nostalgia can set you up for disappointment if the present doesn't (or can't) measure up. Whether that's because the way we remember the past is flawed and rose-tinted or the present really is that bad is neither here nor there. Hope you find ways to enjoy yourself and stick around!

It's pretty amazing to hear from a member of the wotmud family that has roots so deep.
Welcome back and hopefully our paths will cross at some point. :)

Did we really regularly hit 300? Perhaps I wasn't playing then, I suppose, but I don't rembmer numbers that high. Welcome back and good luck! Would love to see the MUD more active, despite my inability to do much more than stat while I'm at work. Cheers.

No. Sometimes we’d peak over 200 but 100-130 was the norm.

The game at one point capped out around 200, and it would leave you in the login waiting for someone to log out. I have distinct memories of that around 2000-2001 when I was starting.

This is generally my recollection as well. I can't remember the reason, but we had like 200+ on a couple of times in like...summer of 2002? 2003? But it was by no means a consistent thing. I remember it kind of distinctly because I also thought we had a hard-cap of 200 because of this:

Feel like after the first big crash we started peaking closer to 75/80 and that just gradually went down until the next big crash and we were down to the 30s and 40s. Then apparently it got REAL bad from 2018 to 2020, but I was among those not around for that particular 2 year period, just heard about it.
