Context: Been away from the game for a year, last time I played I played a trolloc rogue with the prerolled 17 19 17 stats.

This time around I've been trying to stat a better trolloc rogue (18 19 18 ish), not least for the improved Con and HPs, but I've now been at it for 4 weeks straight, and the best stats I've had have been... 17 19 17.

I'm just wondering what the intent is of statting. There's zero challenge, you stand in one place alt-tabbing, rerolling, hitting the same saplings endlessly. You don't learn anything about the game. It's insane.

Maybe work back from "how long should it reasonably take to stat better than pre-rolled stats?".

Maybe store some state internally so your chances get slowly, but surely, better?

Troll rogue pre-rolled at 17 19 19 these days, I suggest just playing those.

Statting is insane, yes, which we why we made decided to make pre-rolled stats great. We are far more likely to get rid of it entirely than to make it better at this point.

boars, beaked, and bears (non warrior) stocks are in kind of a bad place with stat caps.

Wolfish is the best overall, ram #2.

I wouldn't recommend going outside of those, as it will be a painful process even with a statting trigger bot.

Can you explain what you mean with stat caps?

Estimate I've done around 600 now. I'm going to start counting properly. Best stats I've had so far were 18 18 19. I've had 19's in all three physicals at some point so I figure better is possible, unless there's some other mechanic? Is there a max statsum for Trolloc rogues?

Yes there is a mechanic that will block you from getting 19 19 19 through regular statting (heard a rumor that if you roll it naturally that it will drop con by 1? but never been confirmed). The only way to get that is by getting a +1 to a stat from something like a r8 bonus. Different homelands also have different caps and % chances of getting high numbers, the complete breakdown is found here on the wiki https://wotmud.fandom.com/wiki/Homeland

In case its hard to read they take a base value for the homeland, add modifiers based on what class you are, then theres a roll between -4 to +4 that gets rolled and added into each stat, but different homelands will "roll better" than others and will have a higher chance of rolling big

The trolloc ones on wiki are also completely wrong.

Done 750 of this boarheaded now. Best I've had is 19 18 18. So close but so far.

I kind of want to switch to Wolfish but it's based purely on conjecture from what other players have told me that they're better for rogues.

Sunken cost fallacy is at full strength now though... I kind of want to power through to 1000!

I have a 19 19 18 that took around 1000 stats (although this is subjective because I didn't actually count how many), so it is possible, just not overly probable. I also have just under 400 hps @51, which makes me wonder if the -1 was on the con was the change but the rolls were for 19? Only rerolls will show the answer, but don't hold your breath as this character is only 97 . . . .
