economics

I feel like as it stands, vials, rares, and trinkets are the only things that really command any worth in trade value.

having 20 bearskin tunics does you no good, essentially .. but it should! there should be a way to convert more lower end gear in bulk into something more useful. Even if it's a lot.. like 15 bearskin tunics equals a pouch of vials. or 20 shining plates equals a low end rare or tokens. something that you can work towards.

You can sell those things to shops for currency... and use that to buy other items. It is rather inefficient, likely by virtuous design.

And yet, a condensing item, one that can be converted to and from full basic sets for a cost, seems like a great convenience and money sink. Require two (or more) pristine versions of each piece and some gold to combine them into a single item. A particular mob, not at rent, to exchange it back to wearable items leaves room to steal or attack while vulnerable.

Being able to turn several identical worn items into a pristine item of the same kind also seems helpful. Exponential reductions in supply seem entirely reasonable for basic kits.

Inflation is another thing to roll into this.

The market price of gear has gone up substantially over the last decade, and while the supply of easy crowns has been adjusted upward to reflect that to an extent, bank account limits have not.

Rent space is another concern, especially as explained at the top, it's the rare items have have value generally more than crowns, as is clearly evident from the bazaar/market forum/discord where trading of items is the norm and piles of crowns the exception that needs to be explicitly called out by the buyer else wouldn't even be considered. Hell, even with the latest round of mobs for purchasing items they want mantles, red robes, gold rings, etc. instead of gold. The sacks with 5 full bank accounts worth of crowns that's sucking *two* full rent slots away has very few useful means of being put to work.

Basic eq is in a generally fine spot from an economics place, 500 gcs to a weary merchant (would be nice if it was easier or more incentive to get a full set from Luggard at the Luggard price... more on that below) and you are set (for LS, anyway). For abs, this is generally sufficient so you only need to worry about storing weapons and enough bank to re-eq, but for combo/dodge, trinkets are important and with 8 trinket slots (2x of ring, neck, and wrist with 1x belt and 1x cloak) and a shield on top. Those 10 rent slots in each rent get sucked up quick with re-eq of basics, let alone storing herbal products or other situational items (fireworks, portal stones, etc.). Being able to dump gold into a purse of basic eq trinkets would be fantastic, and clear up a lot of rent space to focus on the weapons, rare, herbal, and situational item storage. This would make for a significant improvement in quality of life, as well as another useful gold sink.

The luggard market is a fantastic tool, but it is very unwiedly. It is a painful to make the trip down only to find that pieces of basic abs have 0 in stock, and it's hard to tell which items have what numbers worth of inventory for the folks that would be interested in stocking it -- aside from certain KMG quest rewards which are generally in high demand and bought out very shortly after putting up on the market. I'm sure there are several layers of improvements sitting in the code approval queue to improve the quality of life of attempting to use the lugg market, but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again here. Maybe add a mob function that will inventory a wagon and put all eligible items from that wagon onto the market?
Maybe a 10% chance for g-rings, red robes, mantles, etc. get instead sent to a re-introduced DS broker?

Otherwise, a high end coin sink would be a nice addition for some of the folks with waaay too much coin on their hands. Perhaps a very costly oilskin bag with a low% chance of a super statted rare weapon inside, or a merchant of rare arms that will sell a rare for 5x of the clan bank value cost... there are a number of options, but with the amount of coin certain people have, it is hard to move the economy to a place where coins have value when the faucets are much more prevalent than sinks.

I agree that it would be helpful to players who are above average for basics to be turned into vials or something similar, since they burn lots of vials to pk properly.

One issue with that though, would be the that basics that people leave in rack/pit for regears would quickly be scooped up by kitted players in order to increase their vial stash.

Hrmm - what about a store that will buy just about everything at a heft discount.. but caps at 250gc per character? and doesn't have a rent 10 rooms away.

That way every punter who has a spare batch of eq from smobbing/lithes etc. can give themselves a bump, without just giving tons of cash to every person whose good at farming .

Add a cash sink that people can buy a token from the same dude for 2k gc :p

Oh I completely misunderstood Gretchen's post.
I'd LOVE tokens
A Gold Token engraved with suits of armor - full abs
A Platinum Token engraved with suits of armor and insignia - full abs with full basic trinkets

... I don't expect that to come about.
